This documentary video was first presented at the exhibition “A Greek Ceremony: Exhibition of Costumes and Objects from the Opening Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games” at the Beijing Capital Museum, between 20 May and 6 July 2008, as part of the Cultural Year of Greece in China. The exhibition, curated and designed by Lili Pezanou, was then transferred to the National Glyptotheque in Athens, Greece between 8 and 20 December 2009.

Athens 2004....... one in a life time event. Genius creativity, rich in culture, classy, simplistic.... I can go on. And grateful I was part of this ceremony as a dancer. Proud Greek!
Every other opening ceremony are all about filling the entire stadium with as many people doing high energy movements, meanwhile here they just have a couple of performers barely moving and managed to become the most memorable opening ever.

Mi sueño es conocer ese país pero siempre quede fascinada con la ceremonia de inauguración de estos juegos olímpicos e incluso desde la canción de fondo, la historia que representa y el grandioso homenaje a Maria Callas. Paris gave a beautiful tribute to Greece as the historic foundation of the Olympics and inspiration for France to ressurect them in 1896 in the closing ceremony.❤

Can someone explain the technology at 12:47. I was absolutely stunned...
Special water sprinklers were used to fill the atmosphere with "fog" that helped make the laser lights look real. Breathtaking moment indeed, Mr. Papaioannou is a genius!

look at all those costumes, equipment....and money spent on these games.....shame they contributed to Greek's massive bankruptcy and economic problems of today. The very stadium where all these events took place, is now a ruin.
No, it isnt- stadium spiridon Louis is the national stadium of Greece. Only some useless stadiums like the baseballfacility and a rowingtrack are in ruïnes. They should abandon the idea of incorporating every single sport OR game in the olympics, and concentrate on real, historical sports that have use after the games are over. Athletics, football, swimming. Not wildriverruns OR breakdance.
As we say in Greece , χαλαλι aka so ll be it , the opening ceromony was beautiful and worth every penny
But I agree with both on the infrastructure and sticking to classical games
