When I first saw the topic of this video I thought you must be wrong. But the details you lay out are really convincing. A very interesting topic. A great urban legend.
Interesting subject. Mr. Willie G. was inspired by another motorcycle when he created the Fatboy, released in 1990. His inspiration came from the Lowboy, created around 1983 by Mr. Duc Dufour in the facilities of Harley-Davidson Montreal, Quebec , Canada. I always thought part of the name Fatboy came from there. My opinion. RIP Mr. Duc Dufour (1947-2011).
Do you have a source for this? This is really cool and I'd love to read about it. (Not saying you're wrong btw. I'd just like to see if you have a record anywhere of it)
The 1991 colors I'm 100% sure it's black because the bike was going to be featured in Terminator 2, and black and red fits the terminator theme. After all Terminator 2 was the movie that basically saved HD by being an accidentally amazing ad for their bikes. Also in 91 you could still get the silver FB from the factory. HD themselves, and the most importantly Harley historian both agreeing that it was NOT named after the atomic bombs is more than enough proof that it wasnt. And like remember they denied it was named after the bombs in the early 2000s before the "woke/PC" stuff everyone hates was going on.(These people dont understand what that word means anyways...) So HD had no cultural reason no moral obligation to deny that it was named after the bombs. So HD denies, culturally uninfluenced, and the harley historian denies it. Seems like.. it probably wasn't named after the bombs. And that Tarrif thing? HD actually petitioned the government to end it early in 1987. They willingly asked the government to end the tarrif. Most people dont know this. So by the time the bike came out... who was it supposed to be smacking? A now growing and valuable american ally that HD no longer saw as a corporate threat? The wheel thing perplexes me because anyone who knows aircraft history would know that the B29s didnt have bullet hole wheels. The aircraft has caps on the rear over the drum brake system, and there's a few different wheel designs you'll see on the front. The holes that some people saw? Those arent wheels, they're the drum brake body. All in all the bike probably wasn't named after the bombs, and it's exactly what HD says it is... an urban legend. BTW the "you're racist for owning that bike" has been thrown at me already a few times. Which is funny because Japanese was my 2nd language, and I grew up around a lot of Japanese people. So yeah, that one already happens from time to time lol.

Most photos of the B29 bombers only show the front wheels. Look at the rear, they're very similar.

It’s very possible that it is just a myth. But it’s a good story nonetheless.
