I'm glad to meet you again, after.. years. Of course you have a new subscriber here, in the hope that we will meet again. This is the 4th single from the new album Yesterwynde, released today. To everyone's surprise - a ballad, which is an opportunity for us to enjoy the richness of Floor's voice in a different register than she is used to in symphonic metal. The voice at the end belongs to the British multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley. Greetings from Romania!
Nightwish is surprisingly versatile. They have some softer ballads like this one, they have jazz and softer metal, they have songs where Floor sings in an operatic style, but she can also do a gritty metal style or even straight up growling. Some of their stuff goes pretty hard. There have been 3 female lead singers, and 2 male singers who generally sing harmonies or backup, but are occasionally at the front. For something different, you may want to check out Slow Love Slow, with Anette Olzon as the lead (or Floor's solo version of the song) or Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red, with Marko (former bass player) singing the lead. Another song similar to this would be their acoustic version of How's the Heart with Floor and Troy singing.
If you don't like metal, maybe react to their instrumental half an hour piece here: "Nightwish - All The Works Of Nature Which Adorn The World (MUSIC VIDEO)"
All the Works of Nature that Adorn the World. ua-cam.com/video/RnOdQ5WNZJk/v-deo.html This video is 30+ min of beauty of Tuomas' gorgeous music in multiple parts, with a Nightwish approved, fan created, video ending with Ad Astra. It is absolutely beautiful visually and musically. It will really make you see the beauty of the world in which we live. Tuomas created this music for Orchestra and choir vocals with some contributions from Troy's traditional instruments, and Floor. No lyrics, just music. This fan made video is approved by Nightwish, and edited to perfection to match the musical mood in each part ( titled sections/movements) of the piece. Nightwish did release their own video for the last part called Ad Astra which is also good to view.
Nightwish dabbled in quite a few genres and has a lot of ballads, too. They're a very versatile band. Also, it's ok to not like an artist. to each their own, after all.
Gone is the hurt, the wait, gone is the warmth of day. A stray boat saved, happy memories engraved, on into a velvety night, beneath a lanternlight. Last night brought the heaviest of snows melting the songs of old, tying the boat, write a new one soon, sending me to the drowning moon, far above a lanternlight. I'm in the light and flood, I'm in the four winds, I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems, I am the snow on your palm. I am the secret stream, moss beneath your feet, I am you who climbed off of my back not long ago, a sheltered song in a world now gone, petrichor, the timeless. Turn loose the swaying boat, meltwater, sound of spring. I hear our song now, sung by the free, for a thousand more tomorrows of an incomplete weave. To the meadows I go, I’ll be waiting for you once upon a lanternlight. I walk now toward the trees, I am the secret stream, the night falling at my feet into the forest of Yesterwynde.
Thank you for reacting! Through this song, you probably noticed that Nightwish has many sides. Nightwish has actually had 3 different lead singers, Floor here is the 3rd one. I don't know which one you heard the last time you listened to Nightwish. Tarja is the first one and she is more operatic sounding than the other two. After her came Anette and she was more on the poppier sound. And Floor is more on the side of rock, but she does kinda everything. The male vocalist you heard here was Troy. He sings sometimes, but he mainly plays the pipes and actually a lot of other instruments too.
😎🤘😎 Enjoyed your reaction. I've been a Nightwish fan since 1996. Even though they do a lot of great symphonic music, they've never limited themselves to that. Floor is an absolute beautiful beast of a singer. But I'm also a fan of the two previous singers, Tarja and Annette. This new song is so heartfelt.
Nightwish hasn't had an operatic singer since 2005. Floor Jansen is capable of using operatic technique, but usually doesn't. The male singer is Troy Donockley who has been with Nightwish since 2006 as a session musician and 2013 as a full member.
Another ballad with your choice of,all three singers would be Sleeping Sun. Or if you want to hear Marko singing, try The Islander or While Your Lips Are Still Red.
Opera and metal are a perfect mix, this is where you are mistaken but ever body has the right to their own taste and opinions even if they go against the general consensus.
Hi Danny, those snow pictures are filmed in Finland or at least the man Stobe Harju, who filmed it says so. Floor´s vocal parts was recorded in Sweden at her homestudio. Just love this song for it´s sensivity. Male parts at the end are sung by Troy Donockley.
Death's Boy Poem (My personal favourite) is another cool ballad from the concert in Buenos Aires you could check, Our Decades in the Sun, How's the heart (acoustic version hard rock), also the orchestral versions that come in the albums are masterpieces, keep rocking and stay safe....
I Love Floor's lower register. Floor lives in Sweden with her Husband Hannes. Hannes is the current drummer for the band Sabaton. Sabaton is Swedish. Floor's other bands were 1st After Forever and Revamp. The other voice is Troy who plays the pipes and guitar. Troy's been in the band since Anette the second singer. Troy and Floor were official band members since 2013.
Nightwish is my favorite band, but I always prefer reactors who are honest to those who act like every song they hear is the new best song ever. If you like Lanternlight, I honestly think there is a chance you may like a bunch of material from their new album, but probably not the other singles. The second half of the new album in particular has a much gentler and subtler sound than what they are known for, even with the inclusion of heavy guitars. As a longtime fan it is honestly some of my favorite material from them. Another song from the new album that is mostly acoustic is Sway, but if you want to try out some that lean a more into rock/metal I would recommend Something Whispered Follow Me or Hiraeth. A couple songs from previous albums that I think you may like are Procession and The Islander.
Floor does everything, regardless of genre. And she does it to perfection. So when Symphonic metal is not your cup of tea, you will find her doing plentiful of stuff you will like. For instance listen to "alone" or "shallow" from her.
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done and welcome to the Nightwish Family, you still have a lot of information to gather about Nightwish and Floor, maybe see you later!! And by the way Floor also lives in Sweden with hannus her husband, the drummer of Sabaton!!🎶🎼
Floor is living in Sweden, but I think the snow scenes are from Kitee, Finland, the home base of Nightwish. The male voice is by Troy Donockly, aka the space bard. (here you can see him floating in space with the uilleann pipes....) ua-cam.com/video/4hTAV1WpZiA/v-deo.html
I feel like this song is a ode to everyone who lost theier parrents!! Floor sings the sentence, i was the one who climbed of your back not long ago, same words used in Our decades in the sun, that basicly why i say its about lost parrents, who became stardust.. Nightwish is a lot more then the genre symfonic metal, but if they do have to be boxed, thats it, because well, they do use a orchestra..
I love Nightwish, because it is so diverse. Drama metal 😂 I actually like that. It is theatrical. There are quite a few ballad like songs. You might enjoy Floors solo material more. That is more 'pop'.
You might also like songs of Auri. Its Tuomas from NW, Troy from NW (singing in the end) and Johanna, Tuomas' wife. Its folky and not metal, maybe more up your ally.
Actually, Danny, there are 3 genres in Nightwish repertoire: symphonic metal, Celtic inspirerad folk music and the ballads, here leaving out their Finnish production. The second one is represented by My Walden, official live in Tampere with Troy Donockley as the introducing member or I want my tears back, official live in Buenos Aires. They also play the folky combo Elvenjig/Elvenpath Decades live in Buenos Aires. Bara för att påpeka detta.
That was what I was thinking. In an interview Tuomas said that the all of Floor’s vocals were recorded in her own studio at her home 3 months after Lucy was born (Floor’s baby girl). That would have been in the middle of winter. They had thought it would take 4 weeks but she nailed it in half the time.
Floor Jansen is not an opera singer. Floor took lessons in opera singing and is able to sing like an opera singer. You can't put Floor in any box because she is whatever she wants to sing 😍 and that's why the 🌍 lays on her feet.
Do listen to Everdream and Storytime from Wacken 2013. Also Floor's rendition of Lady Gaga's Shallow from the Beste Zangers show. these are in you range.
Floor komt uit Nederland, maar woont in Zweden. En heeft ook een heel mooi soloalbum "Paragon". Ook een paar video"s van dit album b.v. Fire en Storm. Ik denk dat je die wel heel mooi zult vinden.
Thank you for your reaction. If you want to listen to an excellent opera/metal mix, try the Brazilian singer Dan Vasc doing Amazing Grace. Yes it is an overplayed song, but never before like this.
Being honest is one thing. I support that. But to not even listen to 2-3 songs and make the assumptions you're making is disingenuous and a tad austentatious if I may say so.

You seem to not be a fan of Tarja's more operatic singing style, but you may like Tarja singing the Nightwish ballad Sleeping Sun with Steve'n Seagulls who play a number of accoustic instruments, including a banjo in the song. Lot of fun.
Nightwish is Symphonic Metal, but sometimes it’s not. 😄🤘

Floor's operatic voice is used frequently, especially when singing Tarja era songs. Fact.
