    The tacx neo has a swivel set up like this new one. It doesn't lock the bike against the frame and itself.
    Really hope it can work with the tacx neo. I'll buy It in heartbeat

    I wrote wahoo about the fact that my kickr 16 is outdated after only me having it for 6 months because it won't connect to climb. They replied 'when the climb is released in November look out for the possibility of trading in the old kickr for a new one'. Wonder how much that would be? £200 -£300? Would hope for double that but that would be dreaming!

    Wahoo Kickr Climb Zwift "Trainer Difficulty" hack / workaround / SOLUTION!!
    The Wahoo Kickr Climb at first blush does not have much adjustability of operation because of the way it receives signals from the Kickr trainer. This poses a problem for anyone who has their training difficulty setting at less than 100% which is the majority of Zwifters - especially those who race. The slope the Climb produces is identical to the slope in game multiplied by the "trainer difficulty setting". Therefore, if you have the slider at 50% then you the climb will only move to 5% when on a 10% grade in game. The reason most riders have the difficulty set lower is to reduce the frequency / necessity of shifting and also to not spin out / be able to provide power on descents. Most racers I know compete with their trainer difficulty settings in the range of 10% to 20%. So when running difficulty at 10% the Climb would got to 0.3% on a 3.0% grade and only 2.0% on a 20.0% grade. There is no reason in racing or otherwise that I can think of that a user would want the Climb to not simulate the actual slope regardless of trainer difficulty. For me the two biggest selling points of the Climb are the correct ergonomic simulation of body and bike position on gradients and increased immersiveness of the simulation.
    I called Wahoo and expressed this concern but they said there was currently no way around the issue because Zwift simply sends the slope/gradient to the trainer already modified by the "trainer difficulty setting". The trainer then simply relays this number to the Climb. They also said others had contacted them with the same issue but that there was not a fix in the works yet. I suggested that in the future they add a field in the Climb config for the user to enter a multiplier to correct for the trainer difficulty setting.
    Then I realized that they had already accidentally done this in the settings, but for an entirely different reason!
    The solution: WHEELBASE!! In the Wahoo fitness APP under the Kickr comfiguration (once you have paired your Climb) there is a field for you to enter your wheelbase. A bike with a shorter wheelbase will require slightly less travel from the Climb to produce the same slope than a longer bike. Thankfully the engineers/coders did not limit the range for this field! Therefore it can be used as the "correct for trainer difficulty multiplier" and wheelbase simultaneously. This makes me VERY happy!
    Three steps:
    1. Look up your wheelbase (mine is about 1000mm)
    2. divide your wheelbase by your trainer difficulty setting from the perfs xml file
    3. put the result in the wheelbase field
    So for my bike and setting it shakes out like this:
    1. 1000m
    2. My difficulty is set at 20% so : 1000m / 0.20 = 5000
    3. Enter 5000m in the "wheelbase field" in the Wahoo fitness app Kickr setting
    Now the climb will simulate the full slope (accurately enough for our purposes) regardless of the trainer difficulty setting!! You just need to remember to adjust this number if you ever change you trainer difficulty setting in Zwift.
    Notes:
    Although the slider in Zwift settings makes this setting seem analog, you can see (and alter) the exact number for this setting in the "prefs" xml file in your documents/Zwift folder. I'm not sure where this files is located on non-PC systems. In the xml file the line is . If you have only adjusted the slider in game you are likely to find the line with a numerical value like this: 0.48656234. This was with setting the slider roughly in the middle - hence the number is close to .5 though not exact. You can edit the number in the file (it will move the slider automatically in the settings) and keep this number until you touch the slider in game or edit the prefs file again.

    All you need now is to stick this whole setup inside an altitude tent and then you can really simulate high alpine climbs.

    Looks awesome! I wished there was something like this for a long time but concerned with stability.
    How stable is this when climbing outside of the saddle?
    any chance of falling sideways easily?
    how about when sprinting in a flat angle?

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  7 років тому +1

      We couldn't test out of saddle on this specific prototype because some of the parts weren't final materials and they were semi-concerned about it breaking. And given they had like one of them globally...they were trying to make it last all of Eurobike. :)

    What about standing? On steep climbs, often standing is the preferred position, and that involves more side-to-side rocking. Will the Climb lock you into a very vertical position?

    If you go from mountain downwards, it is necessary to twist pedals as in model 2016? If not to twist a pedal in 2016 that you you stop, it is bad. In 2017 completely simulates descent from mountain?, if you do not twist a pedal of avatars in zwift goes from mountain? Or stops as in 2016?

    Hi there. Thanks for posting. I noticed at around 2:30 you manually adjusted the gradient which added resistance. (Expected - I HAD a Kickr+climb). I just bought a Kickr Bike - and find that it doesn't work like the Kickr climb when overriding the resistance like you just did in Zwift (non-ERG / SIM mode). Do you know if Wahoo have pulled this feature from the Kickr bike?

  • @31xrg
    @31xrg 3 роки тому

    If the resistance of the flywheel is increased to match the grade, and the front wheel is also elevated, isn’t it making it even more difficult to ride?

    good idea but absolutely ridiculous that they cannot solve the compatibility issue with the older kickr's. Also not good for those of us who invested a hefty some for the older models. Hopefully a third party company may make a solution.

  • @RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia
    @RobinMarkowitzcoolmedia 6 років тому

    I sure wish an exercise bike could do this. "Resistance" is not the most accurate way of populating the "elevation" field in fitness apps. Whereas this actually climbs. So the fitness app of your choice (I use Map My Ride) would pick up the elevation while you use an immersive app that goes up and down hills. It would be a much better experience.
    Unfortunately, over $600 is quite expensive to add to any available bike frame. It's certainly on my "pricey items" wish list. Which means that I will check it out again in time.

    You really need to sort out the volume levels on that intro. Its far too loud and then your voice is mixed too low.
    You should look at mixing music at no more than -12dB and voice to -6dB

  • @selinovaldes
    @selinovaldes 6 років тому

    I have a climb and I generally like it. The biggest problem is that Zwift often fails to deliver the gradient info to the unit. I’ve done all kinds of experiments and there’s no rhyme or reason to when it works and when it does not. You often won’t know that anything is wrong until 5 minutes into a Zwift ride because they usually start at 0%. So as soon as you warm up... nothing. You have a $650 front wheel stand. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  6 років тому +1

      That's weird, because the KICKR actually gets the command. Zwift doesn't ever talk directly to the CLIMB (it can't). So my bet is that the KICKR also isn't getting the grade adjustments, but you just might not notice it. All of which sounds like typical ANT+/BLE transmission issues to trainers.

  • @maveriks463
    @maveriks463 6 років тому

    i)Power consumption likely to be high.
    ii) A real shame Not backwards compatible with kickr 1.5
    iii) perhaps over engineered given the price premium...
    iv) some worries perhaps over frame stress if you get too enthusiastic on gradients. As there is no rocker element.
    v) I guess strictly for the new buyers/ premium shoppers.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  7 років тому

      It's a bit unclear at the moment, as it'll depend on whether or not they 'lock' the function to not work until you physically pair it with a KICKR 2017.

    Not sure if this think will ever see the daylight, I bought the kickr 17 to pair it with the climb, only to have them keep pushing the release date there website has it as « coming soon » since summer 2017! Here we are in March 2018 and still say soon. This doesn’t give me confidence, they must have real design, concept or reliability issues. I just wish I got the Tacx Neo instead.

      If it helps...I've got one sitting in front of me now. Sounds like April for widespread availability. Main issue was production, specifically with some components they had selected failing after 30,000 cycles. So, they went back to figure out why and re-test.

      Not completely. As you see when DC raises the from to 20%, you really sit different on a bike when climbing (disregarding his non fitting bike for the moment...). That means you use different muscles, or use your muscles different, when you are actually climbing versus simulating the resistance on a stationary bike.
      I guess that it will make a difference at the semi-pro level (We non-profs are not near the edge enough to make a difference, and the real profs go to real mountains in a sunny place).
