  • In this weeks video we head out on a 9 day road trip to backpack in Grand Teton National Park, and Canyonlands National Park. We tried to be as sustainable as possible, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and not get eaten by a bear!
    Hope you enjoy it xx

    My mom and I were vegans and backpacked into the Grand Canyon. I’m still vegan, 33+ years. Mom passed 3 1/2 years ago at 95. She was a 30 year vegan at that time.

    Camping in the mountains is such an amazing outdoors experience!! The air, the sounds, the colours & textures, and the depth of detail that this magnificent Earth has to offer are best experienced when camping and hiking (and also paddling, imho). I just thought I’d say that here in the wilderness of northern 🇨🇦 we frequently have black bears and grizzly bears in our yard and garden, especially when the berries and apples are ripening. They never bother us… they just wreck our apple trees and our bird feeders😢. This footage is beautiful, Immy. What an amazing trip you two had. I can only imagine how heavy your packs were whilst having to carry your water supply. Nice camp stove you have there… Frank really knows how to pick out a great birthday gift!! I got a bike rack for my birthday. It mounts on the back of my truck so now I can go more places with my bike. I hope Autumn continues to surround you with her beautiful colours, crisp air, and delicious seasonal bounty. Thanks for sharing your trip with us, I loved it!! Ⓜary💕🏔

    Long time backpacker here...almost 40 years. I gotta say the fear of bear, ticks, Lyme disease, rattlesnakes never leaves. Plus the added cringe of wondering if a bear or drug addled human has broken into your car at the trailhead. It's still worth it though but I'm unlikely to be doing any trips that require me carrying water or going above 10,000 feet. I honestly only had just one kid because I knew having 2 would make backpacking more difficult. He's 24 now and an accomplished backpacker himself with thousands of miles logged in the backcountry. The West is such a beautiful place!

    Thank you for sharing, Immy! I think you may have done this or something similar in the past, but would you ever do an updated review of backpacking/hiking gear that you use? And a lot of outdoor excursions are somewhat naturally low-waste and no-trace minded, but maybe you could also talk about your experience of adhering to those practices? Thank you!

    I’d love to backpack but I get hung up on the details. Like the food, packing, and bathroom stuff. Would love a video breaking down all of this, especially the vegan eating. I get stumped on what to eat cat camping.

    I'm just about to head off on my very first backpacking trip next week in New Mexico and this made me even more excited about it, even though I'm kind of a nervous wreck still lol. Wyoming and Utah are some of the most beautiful places in America, glad y'all are getting to explore them

      There are SO many moose in northern states like Wyoming, Montana, etc and yes wow they are so majestic. It's actually suprising how gracefully they move!

    No offense here, but when I heard you would be driving that much for your trip, my first reaction (as a european) was : it doesn't look very sustainable. What are your thoughts about it ? Was there no way to go by train or whatever public transport ? (does it even exist in the USA ?)

    • @mnmgirl24
      @mnmgirl24 8 місяців тому +4

      There is absolutely no way to do it by public transit. National parks are quite isolated, and the country is massive. So yes, that much driving isn’t ideal…but it’s the only way to reach the truly spectacular outdoors spaces we have here.

    • @DrewB3
      @DrewB3 8 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately, you can not get to most national parks with public transportation. The USA is a HUGE place and public transportation is mostly limited to the confines of bigger cities far away from these magical outdoor places.

    • @christinesearles2175
      @christinesearles2175 8 місяців тому

      My husband and I just visited all the National Parks in the United Kingdom mostly using trains and buses and it was difficult to get to them, in spite of much more availability of public transport. We were able to get to small towns on the periphery of the parks but had to hire a local guide or find a small van trip to get to the most scenic areas of these parks. A few times we had to rent a car because there was no other way available. We have been to over 300 of the U.S. national park sites (out of 424) and can say categorically that you can't get to most of them using public transportation.
