    Crystal clear, as usual. Thank you.

    Great topic. I get asked about this all the time at the field.

    You are the James Bond of RC FPV reviews, love ya work n familiar accent. G'day from WA, aka Western Australia. Normally do quadcopters, but this helps with recent delta wing pwm build, thanks again. Will check for deadband.

    Thanks a bunch, Lee! 😃
    That reminds me of a product from China I've seen... It's pretty expensive! But it's just a 70mm EDF and probably a servo tester, with an XT60 for connecting a 6s battery! 😂
    But damn, that thing blows air hard! 😬
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    this bit me in the arse recently, 99% of my models have an fc as I couldn't keep a plane in the air without the fc providing support when I first started to fly. Recently realised I pretty much turn off all the support and fly just using my acquired flight skills. So I built a new plane with just a receiver motor and servos and couldn't figure out why their was a dead band on the throttle. after a day of thinking I remembered to calibrate the esc. good info Lee

    Great video! It's like you're reading my mind... :DD I have the same problem with my ESC but I thought it was normal. I need to give quite some throttle for the motor to spin and also, after some throttle the motor maxes out before maximum throttle. I don't know if my ESC uses dshot or any other protocol but I will try your method regardless and let you know. (I have fixed wing).

    Now your next vid, How to get out of program mode....:) just kidding. good work Lee this is great information for the newer flyers to get the most out of their models.

    Thanks for this video. Do you have the throttle trim in the middle or in the lowest position when doing the calibration?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  Рік тому

      As @M-H433 said, leave it be. The only time you should be messing with throttle trim is on things like glow and IC engines IMHO... Happy flying!

    Another great video from the master. Question: On my T1 VTOL PnP, only the rear motor spins when armed, until I raise the throttle to about 50%, then the front motors come to life. I tried calibrating ESCs in Arduplane, but no joy. Any ideas? Greetings from TN and thanks as always.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  Рік тому

      The front ESCs may be set wrong. I'd check them with BLHeli if you are using DSHOT..

      @charliekg6600 Рік тому

      Set IAW 4.4 parameters. Yikes, no change. Maybe I should wait until you post your fine tuning of 4.4 for the PnP.

      @Painless360  Рік тому

      Already have. But that shouldn't affect the motor ranges... Test the motors using Ardupilot... Best of luck

      Success! All motors are running as they should. Thanks to both you and Giz Fpv.

    Does the position of the throttle trim have influence on this process? I.E. if you move the trim either before or after the initial initialization, how much if any effect is there? You definitely understand electronics better than I, and that is an area that I haven’t checked out, wondering if you have?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  Рік тому

      Yes. Don't move the throttle trim. Happy flying

    How would you do that on a "Dual Brushless" ESC that are sometimes used on helicopters?
    I succeeded with the main throttle but couldn't get the second channel (yaw) calibrated properly...

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  Рік тому

      No idea, I've not used one. Best of luck

    I have a few ESC's that this Calibration method does not work. The only thing I can do to use this dead space is to put some sub-trim in for the throttle channel.

      I had the wing in my hand and I accelerated it to 100% and with it at that speed I disarmed it, the OSD and all the configuration went away. What do you think about that?

    • @Painless360

    Is it necessary to calibrate every new ESC?

  • @kaygeebee1962
    @kaygeebee1962 Рік тому +2

    What do you mean you don’t have to calibrate esc’s running digital protocol? What do you mean I’ve wasted hours googling esc calibration and completely missed this. Well that’s my fragile ego shattered just 7 days into the new year…..😂

      I've covered that little nugget in lots of my buuld videos over the past few years so glad this video is raising awareness... Happy flying

      I started off with 4 channel AM radios that were not adjustable. They had trims for each channel, but you really had to adjust everything mechanically to insure a bump on the slider wouldn’t cause disastrous results when plugging in or turning the airplane on. Didn’t even have servo reversing on the first couple, then computers started coming into the game 😮. On single motor electric planes I don’t remember half of the time to even set motor limits…..amnesia setting in😂
