Doubt (5.13c/d) - Laurel Falk

- Laurel Falk on the 160 foot Mount Lemmon granite testpiece "Doubt" (5.13c/d) at the Reef of Rocks.
Originally graded 5.14a and FA’d by Alex Kirkpatrick in 2013, it had sat dormant since it was envisioned & bolted in the 1980’s by Ray Ringle; a second ascent didn't come until Jack Hereford repeated the route in 2018. A couple other repeats in the proceeding years all came about using a hold in the upper crux referred to as ‘the ear.’ In 2021 a down grade was proposed that was confirmed by Laurel after her ascent the following year.
The handful of previous ascentionists all ranged from 5'11" to 6'4" in height. Laurel, at 5'1", was forced to find her own sequences through the majority of the techy & mentally taxing 40 meter line.

The shots where laurels hair is fanning out in the wind and blowing upwards are my favorite. Really good
Brilliant send. Loved when the aphex twin background kicked in, along with the birds chirping, and her hair drifting about. Dreamy!
"The handful of previous ascentionists all ranged from 5'11" to 6'4" in height. Laurel, at 5'1", was forced to find her own sequences through the majority of the techy & mentally taxing 40 meter line." 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
very happy people actually read the description lol
@@JimBoFilms Absolutely not trying to downplay Laurel's awesome accomplishment, but I'm curious where you got the heights of the previous ascentionists from? Because Alex Kirkpatrick is definitely not 5'11"...
@rangelife100 fair, however Alex did not use ‘the ear’ which was a key hold for it to go at the easier confirmed grade, and had been used by every other person who had sent since the FA. To be more specific, everyone who has sent at the grade is over 5'11". In order of the ascents, Jack Hereford (2018), Jesse Schultz (2018), Nathaniel Coleman (2018), Remy Franklin (2019), Adrian M (2021) and then Laurel (2022).
@@JimBoFilms Ah, gotcha that makes sense! Thanks for the clarification 🍻
Damn. You know when a climbing video is good when my fingers get sweaty
thx Pete 🫶🏽

Couldn’t say it better 🙌
Beautiful film and climb, and a pleasure to watch her climb, what movement.
This is a very rare example of great rock climbing filmmaking!!! Leagues above the rest.
Laurel you are a magical climber. And What a great vid capturing the moment with sustained long shots! Just so much better to watch this way !
Beautiful climb! The music was perfect 👍🏻 And I’m all for short climbers figuring out new beta, sending and sandbagging 😊
Sweet film - wind in hair was very cool. She's already an excellent climber and has potential to be supersonic...
no screaming or grunting. Guys should take a clue from her. Pure grace in action.
It’s no silence
Damn that looks so hard, it just never ends. Congrats for that amazing send!
I know nothing about climbing and my friend sent me this to watch, it’s absolutely incredible and my main question is WHAT IS SHE EVEN HOLDING ONTO half the time, she’s amazing
Love the aphex twin addition❤
Laurel! Im almost..no Im...in tears! this was so so 'wow'..I'm absolutely bleeding joy for this effort'..you are fabulous 🎈Canyon in Marin
Laurel is such a joy to watch climb, even from the ground. The cinematography and music really do her and this climb justice. Tucson is having a moment, and I'm so glad y'all are capturing it in such an authentic way.
She just seems effortless! Beautiful climb
"a little more relaxing after you get the ear" 😳 Great climbing Laurel. This route is definitely going on my list.
Phenomenal climbing, Laurel! That was a pleasure to watch. Excellent filmwork, as usual by this channel. You are mastering your art
thank you, means a lot.

What an amazing piece.
That brief clip is more living than most will ever live in a lifetime.
Thanks for sharing.
Just WOW! Congrats Laurel - this is a killer line with varied holds and even the sparse jugs don't look that huge to me. 👏💯
Her effort, skill, strength, and determination are inspiring to watch. She's only going to get better, and that will be fun to see.
perfect video, so fun to watch her climb
I lived in Tucson for awhile and spent quite a bit of time climbing there. I like the granite. and some of the older routes are scary.
What a climb, what a climber!!!!
Music selection is great, this is quickly turning into one of my favorite climbing videos, light and funny interview and serious climb, so cool
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful rock! Sorry I never got to climb there. Well done Laurel!
So so soooooooo.....good! Congrats Laurel and well done Adrian on the phenomenal capture!
That climb looked so hard. It didn't even look like there were any decent rests on it. Well done to the climber.
Go girl! Superb production Her last sequence/combo was brilliant! Best wishes. 🌞🤸🏽♂️🫶🏼
WOW -Gonna watch this again before my next climbing session. I love how much joy the sport brings her. She radiates!!
Amazing climb! Amazing footage! Almost no rest in that long route. Congrats! I could almost feel the struggle. Great job!
Loving the Mononoke hairstyle brings so much to the climb. HQ line would love to project something similar. Congrats 🔝
Sick one, the length of that route is wild. Good job💥
A really outstanding film. I was engrossed.
Okay climbing with an Aphex Twin track I didn't see that coming, now I have to susbcribe to this channel
Simply brilliant climbing...so inspiring.
Great effort, fabulous route, lovely film.
Wow.. please be safe. Love to continue to see Laura climb.
Wow, insanely impressive climbing. Great film, love your work. This one was particularly good.
Awesome work Jimbo! Incredible looking route. That wall is just so pretty.
You did great, congratulations on overcoming these challenges!🥰
tremenda ruta !
Super exigente en resistencia
"Mmmm juuuugs" xD This was a gorgeously filmed send. Never heard of Laurel before now, she seems like a fantastic climber with a good sense of humor. Can't wait to see what she sandba-I mean sends next!
Nicely done, great filming/editing/video! Keep it up!
Thank you for shooting this at 4k, I really enjoyed it, also the camera work was great, so close to the wall, so we could really see the holds. I loved it. Terric route, great feet work, so strong, beautiful!
Incredible climbing and incredible footage. Amazing
Stunning line! Great job!
So good! That press move was amazing
Really amazing video all round !!!!!

That route has such soul.
Another top notch vid. Thanks! And great send!
Crushed it! Don't forget to Sandbag it!
What a line. 🔥
Amazing. Aphex Twin soundtrack is perfect.
Really great footage! That route looks amazing. Thanks for your work!!!
BEAST
Damn every move feels like a feat of human strength but doing it for such a sustained period of time with no breaks truly blows my mind
What a killer line! so rad
Woah awesome climb super rad 😎😎
Awesome!! Way to go girl!! Love the vid :)
great send! congrats!
There it is…
That’s the good stuff right there
Rock climbers at this level blow my mind
C'mon, that updraft greatly assisted her ascent! JK!! Great climb and climber - wild hair shot near the end.
Awesome filming! Beautiful climber. She’s so good and so easy on the eyes. And the shots you got are amazing. Loved it!
absolutely sick
Wow that is amazing
Amazing achievement! Did she even take a rest?
That route looks huge!!! Do you need an 80m rope to lower off?
Yes, 160 feet
Nice, looks rad!
So good, so cool, super jealous
unbelievable this is rated ~8b, looks waaaaaay harder with those disgusting crimps on 50m :O congratulations!
Grazie...sono salito con te😊
Incredible climbing! Beautiful!
Esa técnica para escalar es bastante clasica
Didn't Sasha DiGiulian do this climb? I seem to recall the "thumb press" move.
Rookie question. The rating system is confusing to me. This looks harder than other in that range…. How this work?.
Crimp Beast!
Oh American, you have so much amazing rock! Sweet ascent!
That fly though…….
It was very annoying
How long has Laura been climbing?
Aphex Twin
great
I wonder what grade she would give this climb, given her small height.
5.13c/d
Lol thought she was clipping chains at least 3 times in there. Like phew she got it! No wait still going...
Sick
So Damn Crimpy
Shit female or not! How a human can climb up something like that is beyond impressive!! Very impressive!!
So crimpy and powerful -well done!! I will add at least 3 x she could have whipped with the rope behind her leg -mainly at the start which could have been really bad. Impressive climbing none the less!
that definitely looked 5.14 from the video... maybe it's less pumpy in person haha
A real talent. She's looks like Spider-Woman going up that face.
The amount of times I thought her hair would get caught in those biners...
Super Saiyan mode at 12:50
yeah the holds look quite horrible tbh, nice climbing (and nice editing)
God I hate it when people make 100000 cuts in a video. Just post the raw sends and stop trying to be edgy for non-climbers...
And she has all that WEIGHT of LONG hair pulling down on her as well …. I would keep my hair as short ( I.e., light ) as possible - if I were a serious climber …..🤔
Alas you are not, and she is, so clearly it’s not a contributing factor. Think before you hit comment.
