I just bought an older 1999 vfr and I love it. As you know we've had about 15 years worth of snow in 4 days in the south. Just waited for it to thaw a bit, took the bike out and it absolutely shat down with rain instead whilst there was still slush on the sides of the roads. Nothing touched me thanks to the quite big fairing, and the delivery is so smooth, that even on ice here and there I've got it covered and upright. Tame, yes. Sensible, yes. Capable - absolutely. Great for an all rounder!
If I could have any sport bike it would probably be this one simply because it's such a good road-oriented sport bike, and you can't find an engine like that in any other motorcycle. This and some kind of touring/adventure bike and I'd be set.
Guys, suppose I never thought of the VTEC as being annoying, as obv its designed to be more efficient under 7,000. I didnt find it a problem in bends etc but that's cos you need to make sure you are riding the rev range, ie if your riding sport style, don't let it drop below 7,000 anyway! But can imagine if you are having to use the revs and you get em on hard in a corner, it could be jarring, i just never had that problem! I liked the kick, but yeah wouldn't want that on a track!
@bdhor71 If I'm honest, and not trying to annoy those who dont like it (he we all just express our opinions, there is no right and wrong) I couldn't agree more, most of the complaints I have read about the bike, simply sound like person isnt riding it right!! I loved it!
I used to own this bike and yes it look great and hence why I fell in love with it, but my god I hated it every time I rode it. Uncomfortable, no torque at all so finding the right gear was a nightmare, the vtec was very snatchy and potentially dangerous on a corner if it kicked in (as happened my friend on his) and its extremely expensive to service just to name a few problems I had with it. Its a real shame because I wanted to love it with all my heart
great bike, a shame they don't sell them anymore in north america. However, you could not give me a bike with white rims for free, they will never ever ever be clean again!
the vtec is stupid, it was a typical honda move of giving us something we didn't want, vfr's are brilliant bikes, but they ruined it with the vtec, on the motorway your cruising, and suddenly at 7k rpm on the motorway is suddenyl picks up speed, or going round a corner and your rolling on the throttle gently and it suddenly picks up, it is the most annoying thing

I'd rather the V4 over the boring screaming I4. My RR is driving me nuts in that regards.
