I enjoyed the 14.3, but yeah, the price of Octomore is steep to begin with and then a decent premium on top for the local barley and a bit of a different cask selection - there’s a lot out there to complete with. For a couple of quid on top there are some big age statements out there, especially from indies, that tend to offer more complexity, if not some of the more unique selling points of the Octomore.

It was nice, but at around £150, I thought it was way too expensive for what it was. I compared it to AnCnoc Peatheart batch 2, and found it was very similar to the Octomore, and just a third of the price of Octomore.
That's the big issue with these now. They're on the 15th series, and some other bottles don't necessarily have the big numbers of peat and ABV to compete with smoky appeal, but those other bottles do taste really similar. AnCnoc is a really great example.
Only going to get these at an online tasting as the cost is probitive and tantamount to being indefensible. 5 year old whisky, even with local barkley for £195! Nah.

It's a hard sell. There are many other whiskies that aren't as peaty but deliver the same flavour for much less. Islay barley or not.
