I believe the actual reason why he was assassinated is because he had already started appointing blacks to his cabinet, and the powers that be needed to keep the races divided for their final plan to work. And it's working great as we speak.

Garfield's rise to the presidency, his battle against corruption within his party, and his assassination are reminiscent of Roman emperor Pertinax, a Roman senator who took the throne after the death of Commodus, was a strict military man and sought to reform the thoroughly corrupt Praetorian Guard, and was subsequently murdered by the Guard as a result. History unfortunately repeating itself.

There's so much more to Bliss' incompetence. The shot was nonlethal. If Garfield was just patched up, he probably would have been fine. Moreover, Alexander Graham Bell made a metal detector to try to find the bullet, but Bliss only let Bell examine half of Garfield's body. On top of this, the bed Garfield was lying in had metal springs.

If you ever find yourself in the Cleveland, Ohio area, there's a lot to still see for many of the presidents that came from the area. Pertinent to the video: the Garfield House can be found in Mentor, Ohio and is a museum. Also, for the ghost hunters viewing the video, one of the more haunted locations in Northeast Ohio.
The Garfield memorial is located within Lake View Cemetery just outside of the little Italy neighborhood of Cleveland. The cemetery itself is a wonder of beautiful sculpture and statues, gardens and artwork. It is truly the definition and example of a memorial garden. The Garfield Memorial itself is a very impressive structure and has an unparalleled view of downtown Cleveland and the lakefront. If you visit, also be sure to look out the famous headstones including Eliott Ness, Allen Freed, Carl Stokes and more. The most stunning piece of headstone art is the Haserot Angel of Death Triumphant. Many, many pictures are taken of this headstone, so simply Google it to get an idea, but seeing it in person is the best way. The depth of power this statue has cannot be expressed without witnessing it yourself. For those who see only the picture, to give you an idea of scale, the angel is equivalent to a full sized person of the time of installation (around 5'4") seated.
Another impressive presidential memorial, within driving distance, is McKinley. His memorial is located in Canton, Ohio.

Later, I worked for the newspaper in the area and took photos of the house decorated for Christmas as it would have been in the 1880s. My next newspaper job took me across Ohio to Fremont which happened to be the home of Rutherford B. Hayes. Took a field trip to his home when I was in college at Bowling Green.

It’s actually amazing the amount of US presidents killed by their doctors.
He was shot in the back and the bottle lodged itself against his spine but never entered and the body naturally formed and healed around the bullet keeping it in place. What killed him was his doctor continuously picking and prodding at the wound in search of the bullet with unsterile equipment until it got infected.
Another tragic aspect is one of the people in attendance the son of Abraham Lincoln who was serving as secretary of war.
Within a thirty year span he was directly affected by three presidential assassinations . His father,Garfield which he was personally there for,and McKinley who he worked with and had just seen very recently. He vowed he would never go near another president.
Also the last one is a bit of a stretch but four years before his death in 26 he attended an event for Warren G Harding who died just over a year later (not from assassination though)

Very well-done! I am a bit of a poli-sci nerd (I hold a BS in Political Science and MA in International Relations) but I don't think President Garfield is as forgotten as Rutherford Hayes or even Benjamin Harrison. Perhaps more people forget about William Howard Taft than James Garfield. People might remember Millard Fillmore even less. Or Franklin Pierce. But that's just one nerd's opinion.

Taft is reported to have said something to the effect that he hardly recalled being President.

I would still say Hayes is more remembered than Garfield, but by virtue of his hero status in Paraguay. I've kind of wondered how Tilden would've tackled the country's issues as he probably should've been president instead

You should make a video about John “Jack” Reed. An American writer, author, and left wing activist who witnessed and wrote one of the most detailed writings about the Russian Revolution after witnessing it first hand and is one of the few Americans to be buried in the Kremlin Wall Necropolis. His work was so well detailed too that it was actually banned in the USSR as it undermined Stalin’s interpretation of the Revolution.

Truly an inspirational video, for more reasons than one. Today's political environment in America and the world. But probably just as personally noteworthy, I was raised on Garfield Drive across from Garfield Park Indianapolis. Never studied or wondered about Garfield. This provides a positive thought in my head 65+ years later. I hope it will provide peace and inspiration for awhile. Wish all well.

Two verbal/typographical errors. One early caption calls the Erie Canal the “Eerie Canal.” Later, when you’re talking about Garfield’s vote on the impeachment of Pres. Andrew Johnson, you say his name as Andrew Jackson…while showing a captioned image of Johnson.
