Thanks a lot for your take on the S4 m+ tank meta, it was a pleasure following your lines of though 🙂 I personally wouldve let the A-Tier empty, just to express how disturbingly op vengeance still is. Arguably the most dominant tank a season ever featured. It enables you to run a 4 caster comp with no drawbacks, while having top tier damage, sustain and mobility and not playing it feels like borderline trolling if youre in for the 25+ range. Yes, +30 keys have been cleared with other tanks as well, but theres a difference between a comp making a tank work and a tank making a comp work.
Between guardian and protpal I see protpal outpacing guardian the higher you push. The dream of cenarius macro still being broken due to some wow classic fixes really hurts, since you cant realiably use it in higher keys and still have to take it to access the Wildfire-GG-TM goodness. And just like in S3 in the 28+ range, at some point you will have to opt out of the arcane-incarn hybrid and go for the thrash-based build, which trades off a lot of damage, initial threat, sustain and utility to be able to live through the raw incoming damage of certain tankbusters.
100% agreed on the remaining ranks though. The BDK gameplay loop feels pretty rewarding honestly, but struggles with initial threat/mitigation even harder than guardian. Which hurts in both low and highkeys. I feel like if there was a talent option to empower your deaths caress it would go a long way. Like increasing its cooldown noticably, reducing the bone shield it gains to 1, but allowing it to spread on enemies within your D&D.
Not a bad call on putting Vengeance two tiers above!
I agree with you, I've never had as much fun tanking as I have since I picked of Warrior. I can't really explain it.

@@squashua16 Briefly yes. But the nerfs came fast and never stopped coming.
@@squashua16 ‘Own’ is a horrible oversimplification. It was not as obviously broken as VDH or Bear tank were in the last two seasons. It was simply ‘very good’ because mitigation is more valuable at the start of a new season. I think Ignore Pain was overtuned.
Warrior Tank had fallen out of favor looooooooong before Season 1 ended, even before it was nerfed. Then, they started piling nerfs on. Then they piled on a bunch of half-baked ideas that didn’t really help.
the argument i ve had with my friend is that vdh isnt as op as bdk is cause when i play my bdk im unkillable, but that doesnt mean the group wont die cuz i dont have 4 cc sigils to prevent them from getting casted on by mobs to death, which is the reason i push on vdh,im forced to an extent in high keys, people will just die because of the lack of cc others tank cant bring

@@WoWatNight Playing my bear and prot pally and avoiding the OP VDH. It truly is amazingly strong but I just have no desire to play it.
Give Bone Shield charges linked to Blood Boil - more charges per enemy hit. Give BDK AoE threat and mitigation all in one.
This is a fantastic suggestion. Turning BB into a more important, direct defensive and offensive rotational keybind instead of just a crappo filler skill would really help the class out a lot in M+ without making it more overpowered in raids.
Every non-DH tank should get a 40-50% damage output buff to give them any chance to be taken to M+ over DH. Also, I don't think you mentioned the DH's +5% magic damage debuff it puts on mobs, which is another reason it's above S-tier.
It's true, they're too good in every possible way-and they have the good debuff!
I think you might have done brew dirty... they're gonna benefit more than any other tank from the deterministic loot this season. 20's and below they're 3rd, maybe 2nd depending on how much you value dps vs interrupts, at the upper end of keys they'll probably fall off due to frailty, but the items are gonna push that higher than last season. Similar number of keybinds with a prot pally if they actually use blessings and sac, and similar CC to a druid, but they're gonna out dps both I'd bet.
Being able to guarantee Djaruun & the Eranog ring is pretty nice. They'll be great initially, but the falloff is going to be painful.
Tank balancing won't affect NOTHING or won't change the meta until VDH utility is nerfed.
You can nerf their damage/self healing, w/e you want. Until sigils are not nerfed, there's not gonna be any change. So its literally about reworking vdh with sigils or giving more utilities to other tanks. If not, War Within and any other expan its gonna be the same.
i think the only thing blizzard needs to do is to change one small minor thing in the tooltip of Illuminated Sigils talent, where it should say "damage dealing sigil skills have 1 additional charge". This way it will affect only sigil of flame and elysian decree.

This may be a unpopular view but when I'm healing I Always pick a warrior for my group they take absolutely ZERO damage I basicly hardly even need to look at them just small heals can keep them going. I absolutely hate healing Death knights, there yo yo health bars just puts me on edge, feel like if I take my eye off them for one second and they don't death strike it's game over!
VH is just stupid, they do everything better than everybody
Warrior's DR is good. It's a shame their damage and group utility are so lackluster.
@WoWatNight Yeah good points, even if they have to sacrifice there DR they should have something abit more unique like some shouts that buff group damage or healing taken something like that or putting down some kind of war banner, that helps the group
When healing DK you really should just not watch their health bar too much. When you watch a DK they feel so weak but when you actually play it doesn't feel dangerous. You actually like it when your HP spikes to 10% instantly. because that means more heal and shield on next death strike.(they also had 2 cheat deaths this seaon and 2 talents that activate in low hp) Just watch them when they are pulling the pack and after that heal the DPS :)
Perhaps its just because I do lower dungeons I dont care to push at all but warriors always seem solid.
Its actually paladins that I seem to have some problems with. I know they can be good, yet there are some that just seem to fall over.
Edit- same issue with bear but I know that it is a lack of hitting ironfur that causes their issues.

If warriors got a second shockwave charge and tierset did to shockwave what our current S3/4 set does to Roar we’d be in better shape

So i understand that Blood DK is a bit mid but will i still be okay in m+ and normal raids? I know other tanks are stronger but dk is the most fun to me personally.

I don't know.. Personally I feel a lot safer on Brew than basically any other tank, and over all damage is higher as well. I do agree with the lack in utility, although it is not the worst, but low damage and squishy? Nah, don't agree with that. Would have put it higher.
The rest of the list seems about right, and completely agree with what you say about VDH. It may be powerful, but it does not feel good to play, at least I don't think so. The initial pull phase just feels horrible, especially compared to something like a Monk or Bear that just picks up everything around them without really trying.
A lot of people are attracted to the mobility of VDH for the most part.
Cold opinion but I don’t even use raze as bear tank, I spam moonfire, thrash, mangle, and ironfur and live so much easier than when I use raze for ursoc’s fury. I just never got into dropping 40 rage for raze when I could increase armor but maybe I’ll check out raze in S4
as we have gotten deeper into the expansion bear needs less stacks of ironfur to approach or even overcap the maximum amount of armor mitigation you can get. Which leaves them with more rage to spend on raze.
@@GrantBrown-sp2tg any idea what a typical amount of iron fur stacks would look like when approaching trash vs a boss? For trash on fortified, I’m usually at least 7-8 but bosses I’ve noticed I’m barely using 2 lol
@@joeydestefano4665 i honestly would have to check but off the top of my head i think you may be hitting armor cap with like 5 stacks right now, maybe even 4 stacks with s4 stats but dont take my word for it. 7-8 is def more than you need though.
you can always hit the target dummies and keep your character sheet up and look what your armor value says and how many stacks you need to cap out

Remember that Raze/Maul also grant you shielding based on damage dealt, and their damage has never been higher than it is now!

Maybe we'll get Tank balancing in 2 weeks with 10.2.7.
It's close enough to the start of the season they could be holding off to have more time to iterate.

They let Vengeance take 85% of the tank population for 5 months and did nothing, dont see anything happening now altough I would very much like some tuning to happen.
VDH will be top spec all the way into TWW Season 1, calling it now.

I just cant get into enjoying veng dh.
Last season i got ksm in 8 days on my pally.
Then i got ksh (2k) on pala, dk, Druid and then on warr! Out of all them warr was the one i found most fun, tbh the easiest aswell. Sure, it doesnt have the utility as pala has. But i find myself waaay more tanky out of big cds than on any other class tbh.
Tried to push myself back to maining prot pala again. But the warr is just too fun and good tbh. And best part of being underdog is that if its fun when its bad, it prob wong get boring as it gets better. 😅
Ultimately, it's a game. If you're going to spend time playing it, you should enjoy yourself.

The one downside is they’re not fun at all - you always feel like you’re waiting around for the rest of your group ( it’s so easy to just fly ahead - literally ) and like he said - it feels like playing Diablo 4 with all the ground targeting .

You are so wrong on prot warrior. Utility is bad compared to other tanks, Ill give that one. Their damage however is very respectable and outside of heavy magic damage, their health bar barely moves.
Unfortunately, most of the dungeons this season are packed with magic damage. Once you're in the higher keys, their weakness shows.
yes, i love the imbiciles that go "ohh balancing is as good as its ever been" .... riiiight, anyways, no surprise devs sit with fingers up where the sun dont shine..., actually never mind that, they did nerf healers.... so thats something i guess

@@WoWatNight that was not fair on my part , but our prot pally tier 3 was Op and you wrote it off as annoying . Huge dr and offensive components feel so rewarding in m plus . This tier feels like I got a nerf is passive Buff of a stat in the tail end of gearing won’t matter.
@@dmoneciro if being forced to stay in Consecration isn't annoying for you, then you have not played high level keys
sweaty staying in consecration is how we supposed to play the spec you get rewarded for it and you can talent to make it bigger if you need the extra room In my experience I rarely wasted the ramp up. On the odd case the build up was quick with the amount of haste we had available. And in higher keys you want a passive instead of a dr for pressure? Tier 3 is what seraphim should have been .
Blizzard lazy af this season. So many bugs, no seasonal affix for Awakened, no tuning. How the mighty have fallen.
Feels like they just restarted the gearing treadmill with no other plan for S4, really.
I would rather have all tanks balanced to Vengeance's level rather than having the latter nerfed into the ground and forgotten to be honest. Not playing vengeance right now feels like handicapping yourself sadly.
I've been maining Vengeance for a long time now and trying other tanks, this is what I feel. The fact is, Vengeance is fun to play and all the other tanks should be able to have a similar dynamic going on. Tanks need more, not less engagement and control.

Buffing others will just lead to power creep and eventually broad bandaids, like what happened to healers. Nerf VDH. Nerf VDH Hard.
