I know this goes against the concept of the podcast, but I suggest a special episode on film scores. It would be interesting hearing your thoughts on many musicians who made soundtracks like Scott Walker, Jonny Greenwood, Tangerine Dream, Cliff Martinez, Trent Reznor etc.

I seen godspeed play this album in its entirety (funnily enough in the venue where anesthetize live was recorded) and the music from the album is a soundtrack to the movie they show, the album itself is only half of the piece of art. I remember being very emotional and drawn into the story they were telling. A magical concert.

I'm not gonna lie, i was hoping for them to go longer on At the drive in.
On the other hand i'm glad to see somebody finally breaking down D'Angelo, ever since i saw the show Atlanta i've been curious about what makes him so special.

Just finished the Ghost Tropic record, didnt dare to start on his discography before because of how I didnt like his voice, might have just been where I was in my life at the time, but now Jason Molina reminds me alot of a cross between Neil young and Scott Walker 90's broken croons. A great Singer-songwriter record. Thanks for the tip!

I'm so not a fan of Lenny Kravitz. D'Angelo won't give us many albums, but they will be worth the wait. I couldn't get into the Avalanches (it DID sound "new" in 2000) it actually makes me feel claustrophobic. Love the sources, not the album. Its success made it's follow-up near impossible and when it happened, much less appreciated. Loved the shout to Mark Kozelek. His way of covering songs is they way songs should be covered. But it's true, he's been stale in the last decade+ and his singing has become lazy sounding instead of his earlier more distinctive emotive style. Ironically, his guitar playing has become exceptional.
Your description of Ryan Adam's "not alt-enough" is almost exactly why he was such a good seller. There's a huge demographic that he nails with this description. Love GSYBE but there are too many WAY too many "post-rock" imitators. They all sound great, they all have ridiculous song titles and they all maximize their "mystique". It's not post-rock. It's only post-rock-marketing. Yo La Tengo outside of their first few albums are completely a known quantity. It's a beautiful quantity. But they lean into what they do, and don't do more and it's often enough for who they're singing to/for. The Crewdson image for album cover is the best thing. Yo La Tengo are your favorite blanket you only need once or twice a year at most. Except the early albums. Those are great frequent listens. Love Gastr del Sol shout.

Interesting to note when you talk about Jason Molina and how he sounds like Neil Young that his later work leaned quite heavily into the influence - the Magnolia Electric Co live album Trials and Errors is almost Neil Young worship in a way (and not a negative one, it's one of my favourite live albums) right down to Jason quoting lyrics from Out On The Weekend during the extended version of Almost Was Good Enough from the last Songs: Ohia record The Magnolia Electric Co. ua-cam.com/video/ZYU9588BI44/v-deo.html

I grew up in the USA around music played over the radio or MTV and that primarily meant grunge. One band I don't hear Tim or Wilson mention as much is STP. Scott Weiland is a legend and reminded me so much of Bowie and T.Rex
