makes me wonder if it's meant to be like... link from this game shared his stories of koholint island with others which led to the name mabe village being used again or if it's just nintendo reusing the name for the laughs
I notice much similarity between this and the song of Super Mario Odyssey trailer on the Switch presentation. Not only with this, but other songs as well.
This was actually my first Zelda game as a kid. My friend had it on Gameboy so I borrowed it thinking it was just some lame game. I was so wrong, one of the best games of all time and I’ve been a huge Zelda fan ever since! :)
You can steal from the shop keeper if you can get him to look away from the door, then leave quickly. Except when you do, your name gets permanently changed to THIEF, and if you go back in the shop, the keeper will kill you. (Speed runners use it to get the bow early, because when he kills you, and you continue, nothing will be changed, except you can go in, and he won't kill you. Meaning you can steal the bow by stealing the shovel.)
I may be a late fan to this game (I played it in like 2014 on my 3DS) but I adore this game. I definitely think some tracks sound better in the chip tune style than the remastered ones.
When listening to this, I cannot unhear the poor chickens I always used to attack. :P An interesting point about the village's name: is it pronounced MAEB (to rhyme with Gabe) or MAY-BE, as if it doesn't really exist?
@@ILikeUnicorns09 No, it is not Japanese at all and the pronunciation is "Meebe" because that is what its Katakana say. And no, not like English speaking people would say. Maybe is closer to it but it is more like Möwe.
I had this game for no more than 2 weeks. I kid you not... it was borrowed from a friend of my older brother in exchangr for pokemon gold. I didn't play much but even 17 years later I still remember the two kids playing ball the lady that sings, the chain chomp the cat the attacks you back...
My old Gameboy's speaker was busted, so every high note would be incredibly loud and piercing. I still loved the song regardless, even if I had to cover my ears on the high notes lol
Yep, 0:05-0:09 especially is near-identical. In fact, you can even segue almost seamlessly from Zelda's Lullaby into the section that starts around 0:10 (thanks to Brentalfloss for making that apparent).
Did anyone else spend hours cutting EVERY bush and digging EVERY spot in the farm of that village, then leave and start again, just so you could make some ruppees but end up just stealing things from the store owner anyway?
This song feels liminal/empty and creepy in the weirdest way to me. It’s like an old toy or something. Like some kinda toy with weird branding and characters and all it does is play square wave music.
When you want to save, just push all the Buttons at once! ... Uh, don't ask me what that means, I'm just a kid.
When you want to be cool, throw a dab. Uh...don't ask me what that means, I'm just an adult

The definition of nostalgia
This song represents endlessness to me. It is a beautiful song though.
Brings me back to a peaceful time of my childhood
We are going back
This song brings me back to 17 years ago when I was a little 7 years old kid. Every time I hear this, 100 years of life are added to me.
SAME!!! I remember being so little, getting this for Christmas and then sitting in a chair playing it the entire day until suppertime lol. Such great memories.
maybe one of the most amazing game soundtracks ever, considering the time and bit rate of the song! :)
Most of the songs are just 3 channels. Incredible economy.
Reminds me of being a kid and feeling safe at all times.
Just found the Mabe Village Ruins in BOTW
Oof
No wonder it felt familiar, "where have I heard of 'Mabe' before?" A reference to the ending of this game?

Means the island was real and Link and the owl are genocidal bastards.
Still one of the saddest, if not THE saddest ending I've seen in a game.
3 or 4 of Chrono Trigger's endings

Dayan Marchezi Me too! Just now realized I had heard this theme before, and now I find myself here.
Cheers!
Holy shit you are right
Undertale's Snowdin theme was definitely inspired
I jist wanted to hear the 8bit versions of these songs after hearing the new ones. Damn, this is some good music.
This is so nostalgic and peaceful
You know, when comparing this to the remake's theme, I like this more. The old, nostalgic, retro game feel. I love it!
I have to agree! This sounds better to me as a jingle instead of a full orchestral score.
song is ingrained in my head forever
I heard you can see the map by pushing the select button! ... Uh, don't ask me what it means, I'm just a kid!
This is the sound of innocence
Why is this stuck in my head? I never even played this game for longer than 15 minutes.... But i love it still

My washer and drier play some of these notes to me. I love this song.
One word. THIEF.
Why
Chef Excellence I actually named my character "THIEF" so that my siblings wouldn't notice when I cheated.

Lot of good memories playing on Gameboy color.

This song becomes really sad after the Southern Shrine.
Does anyone else think Cascade Kingdom from Odyssey sounds similar to this?
I'm actually getting some Undertale vibes, like when you go into shops and that first snowy village.
