Drill a 1/4" hole in a piece of 2x4, and align the ping to the hole, then punch it through. Works perfectly everytime.

    • @05Framer82

cool. Can I reuse the same chain? Minus one link. But that would require me to somehow pop the pin out without damage, then reinstalling the same pin, again.. "if it's undamaged" (which I don't see how it would be possible?). Or........... Am I looking into this issue too much and should probably just drill it out and buy a "master link" or just a whole new chain?
LoL. I see how my question could be considered simple minded But, it's late and I'd love to have this thing moving by the AM for my kiddo. I'm in an area where things aren't necessarily "close by".
Thanks in advance, if you get to my question, even with you reply being over or nearly 4 years ago.

  • @TerryMasri

I call this lousy advice. How are you supposed to position your bike so you can bridge the chain over two solid objects with a gap in the middle (if the bike doesn't have a master link like my bike), which is impossible to do with the chain on the bike, and which you demonstrated with the chain OFF the bike? Duh! I call this utterly idiotic!

Good tips for removing a chain without specialized tools. Remember to oil your chain regularly so this doesn't happen in the first place. Reduce, reuse, recycle. In that order. Oiling your chain will make it last much longer, which is better for the environment and for your wallet. You really shouldn't be replacing a chain until it has "stretched". The lubrication will also significantly reduce friction, which is good for racing.

VERY SLOWLY like an idiot. I think you've answered my question here. Thank you sir. I am thoroughly frustrated at the moment.
I see your comment is from 4 years ago. But maybe I'll get lucky and you'll see my other questions that's now come in to play here. If I want to re-use the chain.. is it possible to pop a pin out and then pop it back together? I'm assuming that would be a no... or.. I would need that tool, whatever it's called, to do so. ???
Thanks in advance, if you do get to my question here.
