I am a 3 hcp and I have had the hardest time fixing my steep transition. That is until I saw the part of the video explaining the intersection of hand path and club path! I realized that mine never intersects. By allowing it to intersect, I immediately got my right elbow in a much better position at the top of my backswing, and BAM...I could finally fix my transition. I think you could do a separate video on just that piece, and perhaps show some real life examples (no avatar) and it might help a lot of people! Great work...
Athletic Motion Golf the explanar would keep you in the corridor for hands and club head intersecting. I found that if I felt like I picked club up at 45 degree angle from address, as I turned on backswing (I was whipping club inside), club felt much lighter and immediately started hitting better shots without forcing club. If you combine this backswing with the mike malaska heel leads toe of club head on downswing, I stared hitting good consistent shots - with no effort. It’s not until you feel where you need to be that us amateurs ‘get it’.
Great Video. The idea of showing the club movement with and without the avatar is fantastic. Until now I had never realized how little the butt end of the club moves in the early stages of the back swing. In this case it only seems to have moved a couple of butt widths to the right whilst the club head is level with the inside of the right foot. Also the butt end of the club moves down an inch or so in the initial move off the ball and remains this low to the 8 o' clock position. Is this common? Perhaps you could revisit your excellent video on the takeaway in this regard. This is so good because removing the avatar it possible to see exactly what the player is doing with the whole golf club.
Thanks buddy. It's a really cool way to see what happens to the club without the "distractions" of the body. It's cool to show someone a swing that everyone would recognize from the body movements, but no one would know who it was with jus the club moving. A big light bulb moment for us😉
great video.... at 4:17 what do you mean hand slightly above club for a fader and slightly below for a drawer? Do you mean club outside hand (fader) inside hand (drawer)?
I know this is now an old video, but I've only just found it. I can only reiterate the comment of Duke Cienda below that a video dedicated to the hand plane/clubhead plane intersection would be extremely valuable (if you've already done one is there a link?). The feelings this has brought me are a true A-HA moment, and allowed me to stop an intermittent snap hook problem which has ruined so many rounds. 6 H'cap and now hoping to improve! I'm now subscribed, and thinking seriously of joining your academy - great work guys!
Hit my irons much straighter after seeing this video. The path of the club head versus the hands really clarified what to do in the back swing. Another great video
Any chance you guys could do this with a Driver swing? Absolutely love it. Curious if it's similar line patterns just with a (I would think) flatter swing plane
When you mention linear travel of the golf club at left arm parallel isn't the club really moving in a circular motion up and around the body? It appears the Pro moves the grip end almost immediately up and around rather than straight back (linear). Am I missing something? Thanks, Ted
This is great. Everyone seems to be talking about "shallowing" the club where the club is horizontal with the ground. You're the only one that says "This is enough".
Athletic Motion Golf Usually just other things I’m working on - takeaway path, hip depth, big turn, etc. At my worst, I’m focused on the clubface only, which causes handsy mainpulation. But when I take a smooth, slow practice swing and picture the handle flowing up to the top and then the butt pointing down and through the golf ball, it really helps with path/plane naturally. Also, quick fix for early extension/casting.
Great education, thanks. That final side by side was great and explaining what a pro does really helps. Also makes me think it is possible to get consistency. I have a ‘swingbyte 2.0’ these movements without the body look similar. Do you recommend that device for the amateur to try and measure these movements when training themselves?
Anything that gives you good accurate feedback is a good idea. We don't have a ton of experience with the Swingbyte 2.0 so I can't really speak specifically to its use. Sounds like we should get one and check it out.
Athletic Motion Golf yeah it would be good to see how accurate it is compared to your analysis for general guidance for amateurs who don’t have access to the high tech
If and how they affect the swing. Do they cause blocks and hinder wrist movement. Do they reduce club head speed. Do they help. I like them, but I want to make sure I"m not shooting myself in the foot and reducing my potential. I'm going to experiment too. I'd be interested in seeing someone with a more ideal swing than mine as a constant and see if the grips actually make a substantial difference either way.
Jeremy Walker they can affect swing weight, a lot. If you are using a Large, which is 113g (as per their site), you probably made your wedge a C1 or something like that if your wedge is a normal D3-4. Bear in mind that every 4 grams added your swing weight goes down one point. I myself use Tour Velvet oversized (61 grams) and the difference is noticeable when compared to regular grips.
Alvaro hit the nail on the head here. These grips change the club more than anything, and changing the club will almost certainly change how the golfer moves it. The hard part for a video would be quantifying how that change happens across a wide sample... might even be somewhat impossible. BUT... if you want to come in, we can put you on GEARS and see how they affect YOUR swing. That would make for an interesting video😉
Hi chaps... Please, please, please. Just for clarity and my peace of mind, does the avatar “truly” represent the golfer in terms of actual body movements...? Because as I watch the motions the right upper arm seems to get extremely disconnected from the body in the backswing. Please clarify this for me one way or another. Thanks.
Athletic Motion Golf Hi guys. It starts from the first view of the avatar really. Around 20 seconds in during the introduction. At the very top of the backswing the entire right arm “appears” totally disconnected from the body. I would be grateful to hear your comments regarding this. Thanks. Ian.
I try to keep my right elbow above left arm during backswing. Usually works when I have enough shoulder tilt. In the video, it appears avatar’s right elbow is pointing straight behind from DTL view (4:33)
I'm with you now, Ian. Occasionally a sensor will get blocked or covered during the capture, but that's usually really noticeable as the arm (hand, leg, etc) will look REALLY deformed and contorted. Other than that, you're seeing a pretty true representation of what's actually happening. We usually hear the comment from the pros "Yep, that's my swing." However, two key differences are how "uniform" all the body shapes are and the true view camera angles. The movements captured are true, but sometimes the golfer's size is different. An example would be big guys always look thin in the avatars. We actually had a pro in yesterday we were working on his right arm with. Suiting him up let us drill down and see the issue because we were able to look at it from a very non-traditional view as he was moving.
Software averaging as many pros as you might have recorded. Sort of the prototype swing. Of course the greater number of pro swings averaged, the better. There was a book a while back I think called the "Model Swing" where they did the composite computer model. Anyway, figured you guys already do this sometimes.
We're not the biggest fans of a "prototype swing" or a model, but we do look for certain elements in the swing. Currently, the software doesn't calculate those averages for us, but we do run the numbers ourselves for many of the variables we're interested in.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I thinks if the sample size was large enough there would be some important findings. However to get that size sample would be difficult. Thx for the reply.
I just spent hours on the range today continuing to re-building a new modern swing - and then the guy behind me needed help so I started inflicting these types of insights on him. Your videos are incredible and as a self taught person coming from being an elite tennis player and have always been able to replicate what I can see, your videos, all of them, are off the charts good. 15yrs of no golf and left as a 10 handicap, I re-entered golf late last fall and have now spent a considerable amount a range time applying what you guys have shown and with 6 rounds re-entering the game, but with weeks of range time, I actually know what to do, how to fix it, and have shot a 4 over on my best round so far. Now just to re-build that one bounce and stop 45 yard wedge shot (my nerves are old). Incredible stuff on your channel.
PGA coach from the UK here. These videos are tremendous for concept use in lessons to help students get their ‘ah-hah’ moments. Thank you so much!
Love that, James! Thank you for sharing them with your students. Is there something that we can make for them specifically?
I'll never get sick of these computer models. They're awesome. Great job AMG
Thank goodness cause we have a lot more planned👍😊
Great video. Hand path vs clubhead path concept is gold...people seldom talk about it.
It's kind of important😉
Excellent presentation. Thanks for posting.
Fascinating. Thanks
Great video! I hope it helps my sons-in-law. Something has to...
😂Are we still talking about golf???
@@AthleticMotionGolf I wish it was JUST golf that I meant!

Great idea too, thanks👊
So finally we have a good reason to start using the old Explanar device that rusts in the garage?
Not sure how well that would produce these movements🤔

Great, I also like the way it shows levels relative to the butt end of the club at address; particularly the shaft parallel position in the downswing.

In this video, we're talking about these specific benchmarks from the face on view.
This is great. Everyone seems to be talking about "shallowing" the club where the club is horizontal with the ground. You're the only one that says "This is enough".
Not sure why that has become so popular, but it shouldn't be🤦♂️
My ball flight is usually straight and sometimes with a 2-3 yard fade with irons and woods. Does that tell you anything relating to my swing?
Yep, it sounds like a good😉
Holy shit, I was looking everywhere for this animation (just the club moving, no golfer) last week. LOVE!
We know.
Just kidding! We're glad you found it today😊
What a great intro to a golf instruction video....continue to share you guys to many people each week. Beautiful videos ♥️🙏🏻
🙏💯
Is there a corresponding “How to move the club for power/speed”?
Of course... just do what's in this video, only faster😉
We're putting some stuff together for speed/power as we speak.
Quite frankly, it's the only priority. Excellent video Mike!
No arguments here😊
When I picture myself swinging the handle, I find it easier to execute a quality golf swing. This vid is sort of the body to that thesis.
Love it!
Now I'm really curious... when aren't thinking about swinging the handle, what thoughts have you tried in the past?

Your series on pressure/weight shift have influenced the way I teach junior golf. I'm having them transition much sooner and it's paying off.
Great as always. Can you guys do a video of Super Sized grips? I put the JumboMax Large on a wedge and it's pretty awesome so far.
