Hell Yeah.
My mom was a flight attendant (stewardess) for American Airlines in the late 1960’s. They were weighed constantly had had to stay slim. They also had to tweeze their eyebrows. My mom said they were supposed to be as sexy as possible for the mostly male customers. She quit shortly after marrying my dad. She knew they were going to start a family and if she got pregnant she wouldn’t be allowed to be a flight attendant. My older sister was born in 1970 and my mom had no desire to go back to being a flight attendant. But she remained friends with a couple of other flight attendants who she worked with for the rest of her life. She said aside from the strict rules especially with constant weigh-ins that she loved her time as a stewardess. She kept her uniform for the rest of her life because of the memories.
Awesome story! Good times flying back then… Too bad the younger generation will never know how awesome it was back then… Anywhere from the epic “Customer Service” experience, right on down to the leisure of walking right up to the Gate to meet your arriving party… Wow… 🤔🙃
@@litephaze and Kayhalas: The 60's and even 70;s were so much more civilized. Guys actually wore shoes, long pants and a polo shirt or a dress shirt. Today they wear flip flops, shorts and an undershirt (tanktop) 🤮
Bullshit global warming fake news
People say it's primarily for male gazes but forget lesbians, bi and supposedly straight women also gawk at other women. Men aren't the only people on the planes and not all of them are straight nor do they find everything the airline finds sexually appealing if they are even sexually attracted to that woman at all. And with the growing trend women tend to prefer the admiration and gaze of other women. Considering the 60s was the free love tour I think it's be weird to emphasize only for male gazes when same sex relationships and admiration wasn't a secret and was more out.
Sounds like most Asian airlines' policies today.
Facts that no one ask: We are not scared of flying, We are scared of suddenly not flying
Best comment ❤

Genius.
Yes and we also are scared of plane flying vertically
Yes…
I used to work as a cabin cleaner and we had 5-15 minutes per plane to change the trash and wipe down as much of the plane as possible
And cleaning at night when the plane was grounded, we had to clean three planes, so we were still in a rush when you would expect we had time to clean thoroughly
Also, the 5-15 minutes we had overlapped with deplaning time, leaving us with even less time
@@chreese4153 Psshhtt....dude, that's so fukked. I'm sorry.

Wish that YTers see these videos. That's why I carried a travel towel folded up and used that for my blanket. Gross.
Pilot here (not commercial), came into this video all kinds of ready to call bs but.. to my knowledge this is all essentially accurate. Solid work!
as someone interested in aviation and wanting to be a comercial pilot i was ready to do the same
Heh. Not that I will ever be able to afford them, even the "empty leg" flights, but what I'd like to know is if the private jet charters well off people can rent for their trips are any cleaner, or safer. Know anything about those?
I'd presume that the actual private planes fully owned by the really well off at least are cleaned well between flights, although presumably even some of those people might get a bit too stingy when it comes to maintenance.
@@pohjanakka4992 who were you replying to???
@@arandomperson920 The pilot. The name of the person you reply to seems to show only when it is not the one who wrote the original comment.
@pohjanakka4992 ok. It's just to me your comment didn't make sense that you were replying to the original comment the pilot made.
If there's anything I've learned from this, it's that airlines need to STOP cheaping out and cutting costs on anything and everything: cabin sanitation, plane maintenance, food and drink quality, turnaround time, employee treatment, safety, etc.
And we need to FORCE the airlines to improve them. They need to be regulated again!
Then you’ll have people complaining about the cost of tickets and then the airlines will go out of business but then the government will bail them out. Then increase taxes to cover the bailout and it’s a constant cycle of stupidity. When you try to make things affordable, you have to cut corners.
Look at the cheap airlines. I would never fly on a cheap airline. I’ve seen way too many UA-cam videos showing the type of clientele who fly those airlines and I would never want to be stuck on a plane with someone who can’t stfu. I definitely think alcohol leads to a lot of these problems. I rarely fly but when I do I pay the extra money for the better seats. You get what you pay for.
@@mostlypeacefuljogger4622or here is a big idea, cut the money going into the ceo bank account for doing sweet crap all and re investing that money where it should go
Don't purchase what they're selling. New hiring practices have degraded all aspects of air travel

I don’t understand why flight attendants aren’t paid until the flight takes off. I mean, i UNDERSTAND …. But i’m shocked it still continues. That shouldn’t be allowed.
We fall under the Railway Labor Act. It’s always been this way. Delta is now paying them so hopefully it can change. We aren’t paid for boarding, deplaning or until the door closes then when it opens at the destinations it stops when you open the door. We also have to check in 45 min before boarding that’s unpaid. We do it for the travel, not the money. It’s a lifestyle, not a job. 25 years for me, best job ever!
Should be illegal, work is work
@@INDYFAyou have been brainwashed
That's in the US. In almost all of Europe, it's illegal to require workers to work for free, so they're paid from when the shift starts, which includes any mandatory things they have to do before the actual work starts, like having to show up early.

Flight tip: you can bring your own water bottle on your flight. Just make sure you empty it before you go through airport security and then you can fill it up before you board. Powdered drink enhancers are also a good way to flavor your drink before the flight. Just be sure to use caffeine free powder as it will save you from frequent restroom trips.
You will still have the bavitria
@@imdaboss2023Not if you keep your container clean… Hell! There’s even the option of filling with bottled/filtered water if you’re that concerned, LOL! 🤔🤣🙃
Where would you fill the water bottle up again between security and the gate before boarding? The only option is to buy another bottled water at one of the stores in the terminal
@@alvexok5523 Airports now have places either built into the water fountains or separate from them for filling water bottles between security & the gate.
@@alvexok5523 they have water fountains between security checkpoints and gates to fill empty water bottles. You just need to look around for them. The restrooms are mostly where they are.

As weird as it looks, it's part of the investigation. That way, they won't have to go back and forth. They will just look at the photo of which part of the engine the bird got sucked in.

Great report. I consider the airplane cabin a total germ hole. I don't wear the clothes that I wore on the airplane on my trip I put them in a bag. I bring hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, and lots of gloves to wear in the bathroom.. I learned something about the water they used to make coffee on board. No more. I'm going to order a Coke or a canned iced tea. We have to respect the flight attendants and they need to be paid well because when there is an emergency they are right on it saving our lives.
I suggest bringing a reusable water bottle and filling it at the airport after security. You never know how clean storage areas are on a plane. I also pack snacks in my carry on.

How can it possibly be legal in the US to require employees to perform so much unpaid labor?
US is a strictly capitalist country, so such things are absolutely normal and legal

23:12 "A small fragment of the engine hit a window." More like an entire half of the engine cowling (the outer shell). Also, it wasn't an engine failure, as the engine core was unaffected (if I remember correctly, it was able to continue running).
Also, while the British Airways captain did suffer some significant injuries (most notably a few fractures and frostbite, plus lacerations and bruises), his injuries were actually fairly minor for the situation. He was violently flung against the outside of the plane and constantly pummeled by cold 300 mile per hour winds (initially well below freezing and in a low oxygen environment). He was lucky to survive at all, let alone without spinal injuries or permanent damage.
Tim Lancaster, the BA pilot, was back at work within 6 months too

In normal countries flight attendants get paid when they report for duty, nothing to do with when the door shuts
Define a “Normal” country please? 🤔
@litephaze It's not USA
19:47 When he said drop 50,000 ft out of the sky, that isn’t possible since most commercial airliners fly at about 35,000 ft. If it was possible, then that would result in an altitude of -15,000 ft. That would mean your aircraft has crashed into the ocean and sank to the same depth as the Titanic wreckage.

OK, imagine a flight that offered exquisite food and a piano bar today, but those seat tickets will cost $1500 to $2000 for a 2000-mile flight. Still complaining???
They cost $ 2000+! What are you talking about???
@@luciasaunders9736 The difference now is that is a choice, rather than ALL THE SEATS of the plane being exquisite.
The last time I actually flew on a plane to go someplace was this past March when my school and I took a week-long vacation to Disney World down in Florida. Both on the way down and back home to where I live (but I won’t say which state), I ended up sitting towards the middle of the plane. While I did have one seat towards the window on the way down and I sat in the aisle on the way home, both (on two different aircraft obviously), I felt just fine where I was, and had no problems whatsoever with where I was sitting.
Also, the airline that flew us both ways to and from Orlando, where we had gone to go to go to Disney not far from Orlando, was actually called JetBlue. It’s this company where the planes even have a smart screen in front of each seat for you to have your entertainment of choice during the flight, other than every essential announcement the pilot and co-pilot have to make over the P.A. Not only that, you even get a complimentary snack and drink on board from the flight attendants, which I just learned is already included in your flight once you board a JetBlue plane.
It's true. Before you get bummed out about losing all those great perks and nice meals, understand that those prices, when adjusted for inflation, were sky-high. I remember it cost (in 1981) over $1,000 to fly from NY to LA. And that's before inflation. Now that same flight (without deregulation) would cost about $2,300. The fact is, if it weren't for deregulation, most people would never fly.
Follow Sheldon Cooper and wear bus pants, which double as airplane pants. 😂

Unpopular opinion but I like airplane food. Probably depends on the flight
The things said in the video are under heavy regulations. There are also some bad advice. If you’re dehydrated, you absolutely can drink airplane water. They are safe and regulated. Remember, the pilots also drink the same water. The airlines won’t want to risk their pilots getting sick.
It depends on country's
You're funny. I'm sure pilots bring their own water.

Safest seats in a plane are the ones in the tail section. If you're lucky, you can get one facing the other way. Safest seat of them all. But not many planes have that seat for passengers, only crew. But sometimes you might get lucky, and they let you borrow it 😁.

Something you're leaving out is before the deregulation act is most people couldn't afford plane tickets anyway so it didn't matter if they provided all of those amenities since most common people would never be able to enjoy them. The deregulation act enabled most Americans to have access to the fastest mode of travel which was previously inaccessible. I understand the experience isn't necessarily the most enjoyable today, but if we need to get somewhere in a hurry, it's there when we need it.
It also allowed them to cut corners every which way they want and caused it to become far, far less safe than it used to be.
