Video is most effective when you actually focus on your actions instead of the floor.

Great idea. I just bought the 5 drawer cart and prefer to just pull the drawers and not have to mess with the latches.

Very nice and great idea for I have a 72 inch harbor freight tool box 🧰and I brought 36 magnets from Amazon cost 45 dollars plus shipping and the kind I got with the pilot hole in the center and the size of it was 11/4 95 lbs of force and I put two on each drawer and they worked great now the space between the back of the drawer and the back wall in the box is 1 inch so you have to spacers to make it stick to the drawer when you close it and I just remove the side latches from the drawers and it works fine better than before cool idea

I just bought a bunch of gun magnets, (2A4LIFE) that happened to be on sale over the Holidays, for the big drawers on my new HF tool boxes I bought over the Holidays. Think I spent ~$36 for 12. They are very strong, 250lb rated, IIRC each. I'll let you know if they work after the Tool Boxes show up.
You sure don't want to get your fingers between them and a metal desk top. Ask me how I know! LOL!

If you just squeeze the back of the slide with pliers,on the back end of slides, where the plastic bump stop/ catch is you achieve the same thing for free. all full extension slides even the ones in kitchen cabinets work this way.

I drilled the pop rivet holding the latch and got the magnet strips when they were giving them away, and I use doubled up blocks on all the drawers. No need for anything extra on any of them. Series 2 72 inch box. The latch on the Series 3 is much better but I'm still not sure that I wouldn't still do this mod.

Good tip on the magnets. I'm not clear where you placed them; inside the drawer or between the drawer and the back of the cabinet. Thanks, in advance, for your clarification!

Yes i pulled each drawer out and placed the magnets. If you don't use a light adhesive they tend to stick to the back of the cabinet

I’m not clear on how you managed to stick them on the backside of the drawers. Doesn’t the opposite pole push them off the drawer? The push would be the same amount of force as the pull no? So even adhesive shouldn’t keep them stuck on. Or am I missing something?

    • @nunya5891

@@BigBear-- With only one magnet attached to back of drawer it has no opposite pole to react against. Steel is attracted to both sides of the magnet since the steel in the tool box is not magnatized with a magnetic field.

Haha, sorry. For some reason I had it in my head that you used two magnets one on drawer one on back wall. I should of read the comment with a bit more attention.

This makes perfect sense. Spend money to defeat the latch. Then spend more money to reinvent the latch.

If you use the latch then you are pulling from the corner and then the you will force wracking. Or you will have to use 2 hands

Spent about $10.00 on the magnets. Money well spent. The latches that came with the tool box sucks the weenie. The box is awesome, except for the silly catches.

Rare earth magnet might be just as good but way smaller

  • @YTcldYT

The latches seem to operate in the conventional way, with a spring-loaded crossbar, angled to self retract and then deploy into the strike.
This would be described as the male latch on the drawer catching in the female strike on the frame.
So your solution is essentially cockblocking the latch.
What am I missing? How is this a gay latch?

Before the advent of the internet and social justice warriors, gay = lame. Now it's just a word to trigger idiots into arguments.

What’s with the use of the massive magnets to keep the drawers shut, are your concrete floors unlevel or do you live in an earthquake zone?? 😎

thats only half of my sockets, this isnt even my final form.
i organize my drawers so that the heaviest drawers are on the bottom. they just happen to b e my socket drawers. i have a full set from .25 to 1" sockets metric to standard standard to deep well.
i put more commmon tools i use up top like my air tools drill bits and attachments.

Terrible idea! You will be peeling your tools off those magnets! Don't like the locking latches , drill out the rivets with the correct size drill bit and you will not cause any damage.

Magnets collect a big fuzzy wad of abrasive dust within a shop that gets used to do things in my experience. I’m not that inclined to welcome that into my toolbox
