Alone in the Arctic: The True Test

  • Sometimes, the greatest challenges aren't the ones you anticipate. This leg of the journey threw us a curveball - a detour, you might say. Adam, my partner, was forced to turn back due to an unfortunate injury. Saying goodbye in Paulatuk was a quiet affair, a shared understanding hanging heavy in the air.
This episode delves into the solitary rhythm of navigating the Passage alone. It's a dance with the elements, a constant recalibration. The days become a series of essential tasks - the bite of frigid water as I wrestle with the waves, the measured preparation of fuel for both body and boat. The scenery, once a breathtaking companion, begins to hold a different kind of beauty - a vast, silent canvas reflecting the introspective quiet of the journey.
Then Mother Nature decided to flex her muscles. The weather took a hard turn and wouldn't let up. Days turned into one another, a blur of gray skies and churning water. My little tent, once a welcomed safe haven, became a temporary prison. the wind howled and the tent thrashed like the world was ending. It was raw, powerful, and scary as hell.
A big thank you to all the beauties that helped make this trip possible ❤️

Wow, I can’t imagine the emotions that must of been felt when you separated. But there was no doubt in my mind you would continue. That’s what brought me to your channel several years ago, your never quit attitude when you were met with challenges. You have introduced us to some very cool people but Adam seems to be a real solid guy. I certainly hope you two collaborate again in the future. Matty watching from Illinois US. Keep on keeping on!

Good stuff Matty. I’m a little bit of a physically broken man now because I never quit when the going got tough, but I’ll take the pain for the awesome memories that made me who I am. You will never regret those tough decisions to keep going, you would regret not keepin on. That is what separates the men from the boys. Cheers man.

glad to have you aboard then! we have a multi fuel stove. it pretty much works like a normal gas burner, except it has a fuel tank that you can add pretty much what ever fuel you want, from diesel to kerosine. they work great. ours was an MSR brand
