I did this exact same thing when I was in my late 20's to early 30's....But I am a female...I sold my home in Kingman, AZ...and bought 10 acres of mountain timberland, above a little town in Washington state called Collville, about 70 miles North of Spokane...my X boyfriend and I cut our own timber, and prepared it, we basically lived off the land, hunting and fishing as needed, we hauled our water and made a very self sustaining campsite and water system, cooked on open fire pit for every meal, bathed in local creeks and rivers, as well as washing our clothes this way...I never felt so free in my life...I never cared or wondered what day of the week it was, and learned to tell time by the sun and the shadows that were cast...I observed all the wildlife and plants around me and learned the patterns of nature...It was truly beautiful. I only drove to town once or twice a month and trips were brief, as I couldn't wait to get back to my Paradise... My calm, peaceful place....The only thing that ruined this whole experience was choosing the wrong partner in doing so....I eventually left my mountain property and half built cabin, to escape being in a bad relationship, and I cried as I drove away in my pick up truck, but I will have the good memories forever, and know that at least one time in my life, I truly knew what peacefulness and serenity felt like with no outside worries of the world..no everyday problems, no time limits when something must be done by, no limits to my imagination, and no one force feeding me State or Govt. laws, or trying to push new rules and regulations on me.. Everyday was very hard work, but was work I was doing because I wanted to, and it was a way of life that I desired....Everyone should experience this at least once in their life time, in my opinion.. I'm now 64 yo and have wonderful memories...I still live in the country, on property, but I now do it all alone and its always nicer to have someone to share it all with, but at my age, I'm kinda stuck in my ways, so I will stay solo...

You were not thinking!! Should have kept planks, door, and any kind of structure and moved those materials to your actual claim an then rebuild cabin!! It did not look like your claim site is too far away! Give it another try! But save the planks!! Loved this video and hope you make more out in wilderness!

Damn brother I was thinking the same thing. I saw it and actually said out loud naw he's surely not going to. Then he did, and I apparently said, "What in the f**k are you doing?"really loud because my wife yelled back, "Excuse me. She thought I was saying it to her, lol. Anyway, he could have saved himself a crap ton of work if he hadn't burned that shit. I don't guess it ever crossed his mind. My 9 year old and 11 year old are watching this and really enjoyed it. They said the cabin was a masterpiece and they were sorry to see it go. My 9 year old wanted to be sure you got the window and stove out for the next cabin.

A mining claim does not give someone ownership of the land, but it does afford rights to use and develop the land. He build a structure outside of the area allocated in his claim. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the structure needs to go. The cabin was built to be moveable. You didnt have far to get it onto the mining claim property. Certainly a dozer could have gotten it done. Prior to the burning, this was the best and most uplifting video I have seen in quite a long while. After the burning, I am angry.

I didn't realize it when first starting burning her down, but yes he was traumatized. for awhile after he would be nervous anytime I would lite a decent sized camp fire
We have an old log cabin built by Dad's uncle in the late 1940s. Logs are open in between and has a tin roof so still standing. It was meant to be a hunting blind I believe. It's on the very top of our mountain in eastern Kentucky. There is a trail up top there and people go to party at that spot but the cabin is still looking decent.
I live on the opposite side of side of the world to you ! … in Uk. No chance of such freedom….. but it was glorious to see. And has all the hopes and dreams of …. Well many of us, THESE, days 😑 and I’m over sixty. And own outright a ‘Lego’ house. I'm 69, my wife 76, we just moved in our new home in Feburary we built together. Just like you from the dirt to the roof, we done it all. We are so happy and proud of our new home. Just found your channel tonight and subbed in for the adventure. I can relate to your DIY sole. We love dogs as well and have one by our side constantly. The best to you as you move forward. I think that it's a form of shock followed by being on auto-pilot. You do what you've got to do asap with a cold determination. It's only afterwards that emotions come to the fore. At least with me.

Two other guys from neighbor country who are doing remote...had to move their cabin due to flood.....they took the entire cabin apart, stacked each section separately, & moved everything.....they didn't burn....seems that may have been a viable option....measure twice, cut once....move once, check twice on location! good luck on the next one.

i build 2 cabins on the north canol road out of ross river yukon,,l came back in in spring and they were burnt,not sure if set on fire or natural cause,the were hidden under heavy spruse trees,there you go,you cannot do this kinda thing anymore,they were 20 km of the road,if i were to do it again i would build 8x10 and hide it real good and use it sporadickly ,,sorry for my bad english,my name is stuart from germany

My guess is they lidar scan large sections of the woods for changes. You can see them operating on ADSB exchange running patterns, though could be satellite now. A brush burn can be picked up from space anywhere in the world if you check the NASA Lance/Firms map.

I truly believe that this is not the way the law would be intended to be interpreted. Personally I would have not burnt down the cabin and try to stake a claim on the area of the cabin. For sure you will have thought of that and I find it gut wrenching to see how this home of yours burns down to the ground. Just hope you find lots of gold on your claim and you will be able to rebuild on your claim.🙏

Something doesn't add up here. You were required to build a movable living structure, which you did by placing the cabin on rounds. You show the property line of where it should have been with a clearing in between allowing a nice open path. After the brutal hard work of building that cabin, why not cut some more logs, jack it up, and egyptian style pull the cabin with some come-alongs to said property. Unless of course, you wanted a large fire to roast marshmallows, which i understand completely.
Because that doesn't make for good content, this is coming from a channel that only gets about 10-15k views per video all of a sudden this one gets 500k. He did it for views not because he "had to"

Well in real life, this all happened quite awhile ago. I've since built another cabin and now renovating another. Sharing more videos soon of the old abandoned cabin on an island I bought
Maybe I missed something but it seems like you could have just taken the cabin apart and moved the timbers and milled-lumber to a location on your land and reassembled it. People used to do that with barns. I have a barn that was built with reclaimed timbers from an earlier barn that stood on my property. The "new" barn is over a hundred years old and is still in great shape. All that wood was seasoned.
Depends on if that ground the cabin is on is open ground or already claimed. If claimed he could make contact with the owner and work a percentage of the gold in exchange. Canadas mning laws are really hard on people so if a mistake in location is made, they will surely let you know aboutit.
The government didn't screw anything up , he did . The rules are kept in place for everyone , to protect land rights . If he would have built his cabin in the correct location there wouldn't have been any problem .

So unless there was a person who was claiming infringement of right then there was no claim to enforce. He wasn't causing harm. They should have posted the error in his property and waited for someone to make a claim. Common law even acknowledges the rights of squatters. Ultimately he chose to burn down his own cabin. My argument is philosophical.
Yes now claim holder has less trees on that land, why burn it, disassemble it and get it on your claim. Would be less work to move it all than start over. Or claim that too.

They didn't make him burn it down, he decided to burn it down after being told it was outside his property claim. As other have already mentioned; He could of just moved the cabin since the foundation is movable, or disassembled the cabin into parts and rebuilt it on his claim.

I am missing something here. So your claim was few feet further and you've built the cabin on the wrong spot by mistake, so far so good. Wasn't it possible to change the claim and either add the one on which you built your estate or switch it with someone? It seems that nobody was active around you, so why would anybody bother you in the middle of nowhere? And if, was it private entity or authorities? Normally it is possible to negotiate if something went wrong, why is it necessary to burn the whole thing down without an attempt to rectify the mistake? Are the rules that harsh?
the mining authority is pretty strict like I said, and the reason I couldn't stake another claim where the cabin was is because on paper the claim has to be approved before the cabin goes on it. I think that because I was making UA-cam videos they assumed I wasn't taking the mining part serious. All that is required each year to maintain a placer gold claim lease is one 6x6x6 hole. every amount of dirt after this you move adds up to another year on your lease

Can't say your wrong about the rabbits. All those bows and limbs would of made great pens for catching rabbits. At the time I just need the space and also I wanted to burn out the ground where the cabin would sit so it would be easier to get log Rollers under when the time came to skid the cabin

yes I no exactly what your saying. around Newfoundland everyone called that making pens. there wasn't as many rabbits around that cabin as I would have imagined. a lot of Lynx in the area eating them down

Brother im sorry you had to do that after all that time.hopefully it dont deter you from continuing to persue your dream. Best thing about starting all over is now you can do it the right way without jumping through hurdles of figuring out what you want now just jump over to your claim and build what you want.

I did this exact same thing when I was in my late 20's to early 30's....But I am a female...I sold my home in Kingman, AZ...and bought 10 acres of mountain timberland, above a little town in Washington state called Collville, about 70 miles North of Spokane...my X boyfriend and I cut our own timber, and prepared it, we basically lived off the land, hunting and fishing as needed, we hauled our water and made a very self sustaining campsite and water system, cooked on open fire pit for every meal, bathed in local creeks and rivers, as well as washing our clothes this way...I never felt so free in my life...I never cared or wondered what day of the week it was, and learned to tell time by the sun and the shadows that were cast...I observed all the wildlife and plants around me and learned the patterns of nature...It was truly beautiful. I only drove to town once or twice a month and trips were brief, as I couldn't wait to get back to my Paradise... My calm, peaceful place....The only thing that ruined this whole experience was choosing the wrong partner in doing so....I eventually left my mountain property and half built cabin, to escape being in a bad relationship, and I cried as I drove away in my pick up truck, but I will have the good memories forever, and know that at least one time in my life, I truly knew what peacefulness and serenity felt like with no outside worries of the world..no everyday problems, no time limits when something must be done by, no limits to my imagination, and no one force feeding me State or Govt. laws, or trying to push new rules and regulations on me.. Everyday was very hard work, but was work I was doing because I wanted to, and it was a way of life that I desired....Everyone should experience this at least once in their life time, in my opinion.. I'm now 64 yo and have wonderful memories...I still live in the country, on property, but I now do it all alone and its always nicer to have someone to share it all with, but at my age, I'm kinda stuck in my ways, so I will stay solo...

Take a long walk... go find something good to bring back. Build a good meal & get a good night's sleep. 76, closing on getting old. Everything hurts, but it's been a good run.Regarding partners; It costs about the same to feed a bad mule as it does to feed a good one. And you get far better company with a good one.

One of the pillars of capitalism is the right of individuals to own property aka private property. You can build stuff on property you own, but you also can't build stuff on property you don't own. A mining claim does not give someone ownership of the land, but it does afford rights to use and develop the land. He build a structure outside of the area allocated in his claim. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the structure needs to go.
But Mike Burns, like other fools on the internet, likes to drop words like Marxist or communist whenever the government does something they don't like, even though the government is enforcing laws that are, by their very nature, capitalist. It's usually a libertarian brain affliction - any rules or laws that prevent them from doing whatever they want is deemed to be big govt aka communist.
Unfortunately, living in a prosperous and wealthy capitalist country doesn't guarantee that the people around you are intelligent, smart or educated.

The cabin was built to be moveable. You didnt have far to get it onto the mining claim property. Certainly a dozer could have gotten it done. Prior to the burning, this was the best and most uplifting video I have seen in quite a long while. After the burning, I am angry.
That looked so remote I don't think a dozer would've been able to get out to it

I didn't realize it when first starting burning her down, but yes he was traumatized. for awhile after he would be nervous anytime I would lite a decent sized camp fire
I’m 61, still trying to finish the one I started over twenty years ago, I can imagine your pain,
We have an old log cabin built by Dad's uncle in the late 1940s. Logs are open in between and has a tin roof so still standing. It was meant to be a hunting blind I believe. It's on the very top of our mountain in eastern Kentucky. There is a trail up top there and people go to party at that spot but the cabin is still looking decent.
Just curious what has held up you from finishing your log cabin that you're working on for 20 years??

I think that it's a form of shock followed by being on auto-pilot. You do what you've got to do asap with a cold determination. It's only afterwards that emotions come to the fore. At least with me.

Two other guys from neighbor country who are doing remote...had to move their cabin due to flood.....they took the entire cabin apart, stacked each section separately, & moved everything.....they didn't burn....seems that may have been a viable option....measure twice, cut once....move once, check twice on location! good luck on the next one.

Similar thing happened here in Nova Scotia, our two fishing camps on separate lakes were burnt down by land & forest. They had been there fifthteen or more years, they all of a sudden declared the land protected from buildings and any kind of motorized vehicle's. Good luck from NS !

i build 2 cabins on the north canol road out of ross river yukon,,l came back in in spring and they were burnt,not sure if set on fire or natural cause,the were hidden under heavy spruse trees,there you go,you cannot do this kinda thing anymore,they were 20 km of the road,if i were to do it again i would build 8x10 and hide it real good and use it sporadickly ,,sorry for my bad english,my name is stuart from germany

My guess is they lidar scan large sections of the woods for changes. You can see them operating on ADSB exchange running patterns, though could be satellite now. A brush burn can be picked up from space anywhere in the world if you check the NASA Lance/Firms map.

I truly believe that this is not the way the law would be intended to be interpreted. Personally I would have not burnt down the cabin and try to stake a claim on the area of the cabin. For sure you will have thought of that and I find it gut wrenching to see how this home of yours burns down to the ground. Just hope you find lots of gold on your claim and you will be able to rebuild on your claim.🙏

Something doesn't add up here. You were required to build a movable living structure, which you did by placing the cabin on rounds. You show the property line of where it should have been with a clearing in between allowing a nice open path. After the brutal hard work of building that cabin, why not cut some more logs, jack it up, and egyptian style pull the cabin with some come-alongs to said property. Unless of course, you wanted a large fire to roast marshmallows, which i understand completely.

Maybe I missed something but it seems like you could have just taken the cabin apart and moved the timbers and milled-lumber to a location on your land and reassembled it. People used to do that with barns. I have a barn that was built with reclaimed timbers from an earlier barn that stood on my property. The "new" barn is over a hundred years old and is still in great shape. All that wood was seasoned.
Damn government screws everything up. Couldn't you just make a claim on the land where the cabin was already built?
Depends on if that ground the cabin is on is open ground or already claimed. If claimed he could make contact with the owner and work a percentage of the gold in exchange.
Canadas mning laws are really hard on people so if a mistake in location is made, they will surely let you know aboutit.
The government didn't screw anything up , he did .
The rules are kept in place for everyone , to protect land rights .
If he would have built his cabin in the correct location there wouldn't have been any problem .

So unless there was a person who was claiming infringement of right then there was no claim to enforce. He wasn't causing harm. They should have posted the error in his property and waited for someone to make a claim. Common law even acknowledges the rights of squatters. Ultimately he chose to burn down his own cabin. My argument is philosophical.
Yes now claim holder has less trees on that land, why burn it, disassemble it and get it on your claim. Would be less work to move it all than start over. Or claim that too.

@kevinoneill41 - There were no property lines done by gps satellite back in the day when the coordinates were first recorded. Lines could have been done wrong since day one. Or the earth has shifted due to quakes.

As other have already mentioned; He could of just moved the cabin since the foundation is movable, or disassembled the cabin into parts and rebuilt it on his claim.

I am missing something here. So your claim was few feet further and you've built the cabin on the wrong spot by mistake, so far so good. Wasn't it possible to change the claim and either add the one on which you built your estate or switch it with someone? It seems that nobody was active around you, so why would anybody bother you in the middle of nowhere? And if, was it private entity or authorities? Normally it is possible to negotiate if something went wrong, why is it necessary to burn the whole thing down without an attempt to rectify the mistake? Are the rules that harsh?
the mining authority is pretty strict like I said, and the reason I couldn't stake another claim where the cabin was is because on paper the claim has to be approved before the cabin goes on it. I think that because I was making UA-cam videos they assumed I wasn't taking the mining part serious. All that is required each year to maintain a placer gold claim lease is one 6x6x6 hole. every amount of dirt after this you move adds up to another year on your lease

Can't say your wrong about the rabbits. All those bows and limbs would of made great pens for catching rabbits. At the time I just need the space and also I wanted to burn out the ground where the cabin would sit so it would be easier to get log Rollers under when the time came to skid the cabin
@@skoteoutdoors I meant just make brush piles, rabbits will find the piles and use it for shelter from other animals. Build the brush piles all around your property, they will find them
yes I no exactly what your saying. around Newfoundland everyone called that making pens. there wasn't as many rabbits around that cabin as I would have imagined. a lot of Lynx in the area eating them down

Best thing about starting all over is now you can do it the right way without jumping through hurdles of figuring out what you want now just jump over to your claim and build what you want.
