@@KingSlimjeezy You may be thinking of Jonathan Melvoin, Smashing Pumpkin's touring keyboardist who died of a heroin overdose which Jimmy Chamberlain was largely responsible for.
@Careful Icarus I don't care who's more clever and who's not. all i'm saying is seeing Jimmy and James partake in an interview is as interesting as Billy's interviews!
Jimmy Chamberlain is a legend and an inspiration, as a fellow drummer, and James’ contributions to the band are incredible, his work on the Aeroplane Flies High box set are some of my favorite songs of all-time
I have heard more words come out of Jame's mouth in these 5 minutes than the last 20 hours of interviews the Smashing Pumpkins has been in (no doubt due to the presence of Corgan).
Frankly he never speaks. He is socially awkward. I don't mean that in a bad way. That really has little to do with Corgan himself beyond the fact that WPC seems to enjoy speaking and James is the opposite so it stands to reason if you put the two together you are gonna get a bunch of Corgan talking. I've seen interviews with them all together and they are more than happy to let Corgan do the talking. He doesn't impose silence on them by his speaking tho. James clearly doesn't ever want to talk.
I saw the pumpkins on lollapalooza in 94 and loved hearing Gish and Siamese Dream! Both records are pure HEAVEN! Billy, James, Darcy, and Jimmy doesn’t get better than that! I’m not gonna lie: I REALLY MISS DARCY BEING IN THIS BAND 💔
I love chamberlin! I didnt know that until this interview. Never seen him look happier and healthier and usually hes quiet so its a pleasure to hear him speak! :)
Jimmy looks 20 pounds lighter and it seems to have transferred to James. Jimmy looks and is playing better than ever. I’m glad he got thru his troubles and got out the other end healthy. James is still very funny with his dry wit.
been a pumpkin head for over 25 years. i love you guys!!! cant wait to hear the next stuff with the original lineup (minus darcy gretsky) with billy on the gish guitar that he got back with my favorite lead guitarist and drummer. im stoked man. THE SMASHING PUMPKINS FOREVER!!!!
Jimmy is such a inspirational story. He looks so healthy after years of major drug addiction. Still one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. He was Whiplash 20 years before the film!
As are many of the greatest musicians, for some reason. Glad he's clean and D'Arcy too. I love SP's music but probably would only get along with Billy IRL, nowadays.
@@taffysaur I think it's definitely more projected inwards. It's a selfish habit for most people. We continue to do it because of our inability to cope with normal everyday human interactions.
Taylor Hawkins and Jimmy have been only a few drummers from past interviews, giving kudo's to a great rock drummer, unknown to most; Bobby Caldwell. Bobby had a short recording career, which has confused me to this day. Could be just bad luck??? Johnny Winter And "Live" 1971 Then Captain Beyond 1972, self titled. 1973 on most of Rick Derringers All American Boy record. then 1975 a great band, only one record, Armageddon, then in 1977 a reformed Captain Beyond 3rd album. Then that was it! A very talented drummers, with great rudimental chops.
This is great seeing James Iha finally getting a chance to speak about the band. Pretty much everything I've seen is Billy. I know people gain weight more than not when they age, but it's still kinda weird seeing James with a little pudge on his body cuz he was such a twig when I'd see him perform with the band. Still looks great just sayin.
I was wondering how after Jimmy was fired from pumpkins for heroin addiction/overdose, when he was with the keyboardist overdosed and died with him. How/when did Jimmy come back so quickly with Billy Corgan/SP? Just after SP broke up & James Iha & Darcy were gone Jimmy came back? Or did Billy get him back after Jimmy got sober? Really just wondering how that happened? Did Billy just really need Jimmy because they were the 2 that recorded the songs together on all the albums not James or Darcy
Jimmy rejoined the band in 1999 to record Machina. After that, Billy broke up SP and formed a new band called Zwan. Jimmy also played with them. Then, in 2006, Billy reformed the SP name, and Jimmy once again played on the new album Zeitgeist. They had a strong relationship for many years, but had a falling out in 2009. But, Jimmy once again came back around 2015, and has been officially in SP since 2017. Its a complicated story lol. But if you havent heard any of those previous records i mentioned, i highly recommend them, they are all great.
Jimmy has been officially in the band since 2017 (same with James). The album they released in 2018 wasnt that good imo, but they have a new one set to come out in a few months.

Jimmy was brought on as a drummer for a tour in 2015. When the next tour came, Jimmy was the touring drummer. During that tour, James was invited on stage. After the tour, Jimmy was brought back as a full member, as was James. It's great to have the Pumpkins back and making great music again.
Very refreshing to hear these two have some opinions as opposed to Billy monopolizing conversations. Both are intelligent and insightful and my respect for Jimmy increased tenfold when he disclosed that he loves cats.
