When Whirlpool bought Kitchenaid, they tried to save money by having the parts made in China. The number of service issues skyrocketed, so they went back to using to the original source in NW Pennsylvania.
Kitchenaid almost went under from Whirlpool as Whirlpool doesn`t even make their own appliances any more, found that out when I had to have my water heater fixed. and the company that makes their water heaters even owns AO Smith.
In today's disposable world we need to study products that are heavy duty, made to last, relatively simple, and are maintainable and repairable. Then when major appliances quickly become worthless junk due to unnecessarily complex engineering and fallible parts, we can review how to do it right. Don't conclude that KitchenAid knows what they are doing. Their mixers are still great because they don't dare change the popular design passed down to them from their predecessors. But back in the late 1990s KitchenAid made combination oven/microwaves that would fail by turning on and burning people's houses down, sometimes killing the residents if they were home and asleep. That was extremely bad engineering.
The Kitchenaid mixer is worth every penny. We use it for pizza dough, baking, bread, and pasta/noodle making. We use the mixer at least once a week. We have had the mixer for 3 years now and we absolutely love it. If you're not into much dough making or baking or don't do it often enough the Kitchenaid would be a very expensive equipment to buy then for below average use.
I saved up when I was younger to buy myself a kitchenAid mixer, which in Ireland cost around €530 at the time. Bought it when I turned 13 and I’m so glad I did! My whole family use it and it’s so reliable. I’m 20 now and I’ve never had an issue with it :)
It's interesting to see something that was a literal part of my childhood (70s and 80s) make some sort of "resurgence" and have it be so cherished and wanted.

The Kenwood Chef is the equivalent over here. Similar planetary motion, addons and cult of personality. My Mum has had hers for ten years. My Grandmother has had hers for forty. I bought mine two weeks ago and it’s the best £350 I’ve spent. They work, they last forever and there’s something beautifully mechanical about the operation. When our KitchenAid was about 13 years old, the motor started getting noisier, so I looked up some DIY maintenance videos. The task was fairly simple of removing the housing, cleaning the gears, and re-lubricating it with food-grade grease. My biggest gripe about the brand is the price of the accessories. Most of the time you can buy a stand-alone gadget or appliance that does the same thing for as much if not cheaper.
Bosch is definitely more powerful, capable, and easier to work with. Kitchen Aids are great, but the only thing they have over bosch is the appearance and cachet.
@@asadb1990 I'm not saying kitchen aid is bad. But, I hardly see why metal on the outside means its better than bosch. If that means its worth spending nearly $200-300 more for the same power to you, go for it... You can get an all metal version of the bosch too if you want. I've never had an issue with bosch remaining steady even it the highest speed.

My sister loves her kitchen aid! For some years, applications for this machine where all she wanted for her birthdays. I would never have bought a mixer that expensive but to her it's worth all the money! So yeah it really is a status symbol.
One great thing of Kitchen Aid is that it’s model doesn’t change so, if you take care of the base, you can always replace some of the accessories years later. My mom bought hers in the late 1980’s and has only had to replace 2 accessories that got damaged while moving homes (not during use). It’s a great investment.

I have one of those 1955 style ones, along with four of the modern Kitchenaid mixers. My Mom had one when I was growing up, so I grew up cooking with it. She still uses it, and she's 86 soon. She'd laugh if I told her it's now a "status symbol".
I love my Kitchen Aid. I got a deluxe one used on FB marketplace for $110 a few years ago. Such a good purchase! I love making bagels and pretzels, and I couldn't do it without my mixer (I techbically could, but it's a lot harder). I'd rather have a Bosch mixer, though. From what I understand, they're stronger than kitchen aids, and are open at the top. It would work better mixing a double recipe of bread dough. My deluxe kitchen aid struggles with that much bread dough.
My late partner gave me a 75th anniversary edition KitchenAid stand mixer in '90 or '91. We didn't buy bread again for a year, I'd make it fresh. I had to send it in once to get the motor fixed after about 25 years, but it's been a workhorse! It's my favorite appliance.
This popular model balances power, capacity, and size for a mixer that is perfectly designed for most home bakers; plus it comes in more than 45 fun colors. Pros: Easily accomplishes common cooking tasks, a moderate 23 pounds, comes in 47 different colors and finishes, can further customize with interchangeable mixing bowls, works with all KitchenAid attachments, work bowl has a handle Cons: Too underpowered if you regularly make a lot of stiff or wet doughs The Artisan Series 5 Quart model strikes a great balance of power, size, and design. Its 325-watt motor is ideal for most home bakers: powerful enough to handle the occasional stiff bread dough or sticky pizza dough, but adequate for common tasks like mixing batters or creaming butter and sugar. During testing, it quickly became my favorite mixer to use. At 23 pounds, it was easy enough to store and move around. Tilt-head stand mixers have a smaller base than bowl-lift stand mixers so the bowls tend to be narrower and can feel cramped. You often have to stop the mixer and tilt the head back whenever you want to scrape down the mixing bowl. This wasn't the case with the Artisan mixer. With a functional capacity of 3.75 quarts (read more about the difference between stated and functional capacity here), the large bowl of the Artisan 5 Quart felt open enough that I could scrape the sides without adjusting the head. The bowl also has a sturdy handle for easy lifting, and provided plenty of room for pouring in ingredients - particularly helpful when adding more than five cups of mix-ins for Compost Cookies. While it shook a bit when I made bagel dough, it was never overly noisy and I didn't feel like I had to babysit it for fear of it walking off the counter. That said, I don't think I would make multiple batches of bagels in a row to avoid overheating the mixer's lower-powered motor. For many people, the real fun in buying a stand mixer is picking out a color and the Artisan Series 5 Quart comes in 47 different color offerings, the most of any of the brand's stand mixers. Every color of the rainbow is represented, from a cheery "Orange Sorbet" to "Boysenberry" - the deep purple color I tested and loved seeing on my counter every day. In addition to the plethora of colors to choose from, the Artisan Series 5 Quart also offers customization, allowing you to engrave your stand mixer or switch out the standard bowl for a patterned ceramic or glass mixing bowl. It also works with all KitchenAid attachments, which can extend the versatility of your stand mixer. Since initial testing, we've continued to use this model at least once a week. It's worked its way through pierogi dough and filling, multiple babkas, and many batches of holiday cookies, and still functions as well (and looks as good) as it did when I first received it. We'll continue to use this model regularly and report on its long-term durability.

The loving memory of my Grandmother (a high school home ec teacher) is there everytime I look at her KitchenAid mixer sitting on my kitchen counter.
Used my old mixer for almost 30 years. It still worked ok, but ended up with a kitchenaid from a relative. Absolutely LOVE it. Weighs a ton, but works so well. Looking forward to trying the meat grinder attachment.
Apple, take heed. Planned obsolescence will not gain you any loyalty. Allow the people to have their old machines repaired and they will keep using your machines.
Except the practical, usable lifespan of a cell phone or computer nowadays is 6-8 years before its outdated by a tech standpoint. A kitchen aid mixer will never become “technologically outdated”
I don't like Apple, but they could buy whirlpool several times over. People (not me) keep using their products.
You must be talking about phones. I'm typing this on a mac built in 2008
@@joeblow6568 But thats the thing. Your mac from 2008 might still fully satisfy YOUR needs, but it is nowhere near the performance of a modern mac or any other pc/ laptop. Just look at the benchmark numbers and compare them
@@angryakita3870 That's not what we're talking about.
I bought my first Kitchen Aid stand mixer in the late 70s. It still works exactly as well today as it did on day 1. I have a second Kitchen Aid I received as a gift in 2006. You can’t go wrong buying one because you’ll never need to purchase another machine.
I gave my fiancé a kitchenaid mixer as a combo Christmas gift/birthday gift and first anniversary of living together present. We love to cook together! Both super practical and symbolic of a long life together ❤️
After years of wanting one, I bought myself one in Cobalt Blue for my 50th birthday. Best birthday present ever!
I amazingly enough got mine at Goodwill for $15 and I love it so much, honestly so useful
You came up #majorScore
I paid $700 for mine & I love it
Your good will is apparently less savvy than mine, an off-brand stand mixer over at mine might run $25 easily.
When Whirlpool bought Kitchenaid, they tried to save money by having the parts made in China. The number of service issues skyrocketed, so they went back to using to the original source in NW Pennsylvania.
Yippie-Kay-Yay to that !
Kitchenaid almost went under from Whirlpool as Whirlpool doesn`t even make their own appliances any more, found that out when I had to have my water heater fixed. and the company that makes their water heaters even owns AO Smith.
“It’s the last mixer you will ever buy” -from a lady with 50 mixers on a shelf behind her
Right? Lol 😂
She said ~you’ll~ not ~she~ 😂
She sells and repairs them. That's the real grain of salt.
LOL
She has a mixer painting, refurbishing, and repair business, what do you think her work order inventory should be? Your statement makes no sense.
I like how the entire "Rise Of" series is just a bunch of giant honking advertisements lol. The stand mixer does look nice though!
We call it articletising.
I bought my own KitchenAid Stand Mixer back in November and I LOVE IT!! I’m NOT obsessed but I’m proud that I was able to save money and I finally got one!
I’m NOT ashamed to say this! I LOVE MY STAND MIXER!!
I got my KitchenAid mixer 9 years ago, I believe, when I was 13 years old. It was a birthday gift from my grandfather.
Yes I use mine almost every day!!!! It’s a necessity! I have two, a pastel pink and blue
The mixer we have is older than me by a few years and still going strong and im 33 atm
I have my mother's 40 year old Kenwood-still going strong!
Expensive but it's the real deal in the kitchen
I love kitchenaid mixers colors and shape, but when thinking about the price, I think I should just go with kenwood instead. I'm sure kenwood will last longer than kitchenaid
Oh I have a Kenwood K Mix! I love it! When I decided to get a mixer, I read review upon review and seemed that I'd get more for my money with Kenwood. Here in the UK Kenwood has a great reputation for quality with their products lasting decades!
I'd say Kenwood is the best...I really can't see the appeal to buy an American product over a British one!
I love my KitchenAid! I got it from my mom when she decided she wanted a bigger one and it is now around 25 years old and still working perfectly.
Absolutely love my Kitchenaid mixers!!! Yes, two!! Pink! Got my first in 1990 for Christmas. My BFF has it now. Got two pink ones after I survived a horrific car accident in ‘01. The pink was going to be limited, so my husband got me two! They’re fantastic!!!! ❤️💙❤️💙
I bought my wife one 20 years ago. I’ve cleaned the switch twice and replaced the gears once. It’s still going strong. It’s wonderful.
Wanted one for 40yr. Getting one this week!
My moms lasted over 50 years with only one trip to repairman.
Oh I have to read that twice.
I removed my Empire Red Artisan from the counter (it took up so much space!) and stored in another room. I missed it so much, it's back in pride of place. I don't use as often as in years past but my kitchen wasn't the same without my precious. Mechanical Heart and soul of my kitchen! Loved the video!
It's true, my mom has one and she always says "be careful with it, it's expensive" whenever I used it lol,
I bought one in 1987 and I still use it. The idea of having it serviced is a new one to me.
It became a status symbol after a VP retired nearly 30 years ago and his replacement expanded the model color options from just 2 or 3 colors to nearly 50.
My Dad was the one who expanded the color models in 1994. Thank you for mentioning this. He has long since passed, but I was trying to recall a bit of his history with KitchenAid today (my parent's anniversary). I stumbled upon your comment and it made me feel close to him. Thank you for that.
I use my grandparents’ model K5A from the 1970’s.
We got one as a wedding present a decade ago and it'll still working great. It's not doing 300 cookies a week, but it gets plenty of use.
I have one, I had no idea it was a status symbol
Lol it’s like 4x costlier minimum than entry level brands...and you didn’t get that?
Same here. I bought it because I knew it would last. I really don't care what people think about my kitchen.
@@twdjt6245 A lot of baker don't really care about the price but what the machine does. If you need Italian buttercream, you are gonna need a kitchen aid. Other brand, their motor just won;t hold out. Spending a few hundred to make a cake that they can sell for a few hundred is nothing.
@@bobbysmith8095 I made an Italian buttercream with my mom's barely working old stand mixer and a handheld electric beater and it was such a miserable experience. She got a refurbished kitchenaid recently and I want to try again, hopefully without nearly crying this time!
Literally bought myself one for christmas just cause. Haven't even used it yet!
It's so useful!!
Great for mashed potatoes and making chocolate chip cookies at home.
decoration piece?
@@aliali-ce3yf yup!
I bought a beautiful pearlized pink a few years ago. I don’t care that I don’t use it. It 😍
Haha Right?! They’re so pretty
@@tracy_cakkes I bought a clear cover with pink scenes on Etsy. Best of both worlds. It’s covered but still on display.
Lol
The Kenwood Chef is the equivalent over here. Similar planetary motion, addons and cult of personality. My Mum has had hers for ten years. My Grandmother has had hers for forty. I bought mine two weeks ago and it’s the best £350 I’ve spent. They work, they last forever and there’s something beautifully mechanical about the operation. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but seeing the ingredients become bread dough in front of you is endlessly fascinating.
I’m a 30 year old male.. I love my kitchen aid
KitchenAid is the Best....Got my 6qt bowl lift Professional in 2002, it has worked perfectly ever since...Though I am ashamed my hubby just changed the grease 3 months ago for the first time... followed the UA-cam video and it was easy peasy....Won't let go changing the grease that long again...We lucked out....no damage.... Like I said KitchenAid is the Best....
I remember being a young boy standing in the small kitchen appliance department in Sears, staring in awe at the mighty mixers.
Status of symbol? Yes, it’s a great kitchen tool but it’s really not that deep. Most people’s phones cost much more than this stand mixer.
Yeah 1000 dollar iPhones These r like $200-300
Exactly. I think I rather save my money and pay only $100, or $200, (maybe $300 just maybe) for a Stand Mixer and stick with my current iPhone until my iPhone wears out.
But I won’t be obsessed with my mixer. I just need it to work for me!
These are pretty expensive outside of the US especially where most don’t own iPhones. So yes it is a status symbol in that regard
And they’re always on sale
In Mexico these mixers go for up to 900 dollars, I’ve heard that in places like Argentina they go for a lot more... anyone from Argentina here that can confirm prices down there?
I love these mixers so much! Not only are they, in my opinion, the best one you can buy, I love it that they have an amazing history. And like you said, people pass them down through families! You don’t see that happening with a toaster, or a microwave!! 🤣🤣 What really strikes me about them is that they come in all of these gorgeous colors. I’ve watched a few unboxing videos and in every one of them that I watched, the person was just over the moon excited. One woman called hers the statement piece of her kitchen! Great video, thank you!
If you’re not into baking, don’t comment on the price.
Yep had to teach the hubby that concept - he’s been learning how to bake and he now understands 😁🎂🍮🧁
Why not?
i bought one for $100 brand new. i barely use it. but it is a status symbol for me.
@@uioplkhj probably because it lasts for decades and can be used for literally anything, and maybe that concept would be hard to grasp for someone who doesn’t bake and often use it. i have an electric mixer, though, and it works just fine for me
Reported. Dont tell people what to do.
There are two 600 series mixers in my family. They get used a lot, especially during the holidays. We make pound cakes, cup cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, pizza dough, everything.
I have been using my mom's red kitchenaid mixer for about a decade. She doesn't bake or cook much by this point, but she wanted a red mixer to match the rest of her kitchen. I didn't know you should get it serviced so I shall look around and get my lady scheduled for a spa day!
If you're near the Detroit area I know a place.
My great grandmother gave me hers when I got married. Works like new!
7:23 - 24/7, 3 times a day, 3 times a week literally makes no sense 🙃
Her mind must has been mixed up by the Kitchen Aid
She was self-correcting mid sentence
@@bennyceca Maybe!
Is the Bosch attachment capable? One of the big selling points for me was the different attachments i.e. the pasta roller.
@@chengliu872 I'm not familiar with every single attachment for both systems, but there is a ton for bosch too, including pasta roller.
kitchenaid is metal inside and out. and it is far more stable. even at full speed it stays steady.
@@frostman9661 actually a kitchenaid high end pro model can be bought for $300 on sale.
I’m happy to see how this machine changes the life and the mood of what it brings to them 😍 plus the experiences ❤️🙏 it’s worth to buy
Always wanted the Kitchen Aid mixer but never willing to pay the nearly $500 price Tag (pro line). Then Best Buy had the pro line 5 qt for $225 vs $499 on Black Friday !!! Shopped Black Friday for added accessories (including a storage bag) and I'm in Heaven. I don't bake much. I just want one and always have. Bucket list check off. Love it!
My sister loves her kitchen aid! For some years, applications for this machine where all she wanted for her birthdays. I would never have bought a mixer that expensive but to her it's worth all the money! So yeah it really is a status symbol.
Bought myself one in December. Love it! Favorite quick thing to make is home made whipped cream, done in 5 minutes
I have a red one that I rarely use. It looks great on the counter!!!
Oster Kitchen Center is my favorite. Tons of attachments, blender, mixer, food processor, chopper, ice cream maker. I buy everyone I find in yard sales, thrift stores and estate sales.
They say it’s old like that’s a bad thing I love old, vintage stuff New stuff always breaks or has no character
My kitchen Aid is older than 23 years old. And I still LOVE my Kitchen Aid.!!! Will be bying the Commercial one but will keep my Artisan 5 Qt.
It’s the last mixer you will ever buy? My wife told me the exact same thing but with a Hermes bag.. and she got 4 now.. 🤦♂️
Kitchen Aid mixers are made to last and do more than just look pretty (not that buying bags and clothes is bad)
That's what I said about each of my wives...
It’s worth it guys, I have the professional 6 and it’s amazing
My kitchenaid mixer was passed down to me. It’s at least 15yrs old and works like a dream 💕✨🌈
I love my kitchenaid stand mixer. I still have the box it came in when I got it as a gift 5-6 years ago ❤️. Got to get it serviced though now that I know I can!
Indeed a great mixer. The only grief I have over its durability, is that I want to upgrade to a heavier model with a spiral hook instead of a "C" one.
If your's is a tilt head they make a spiral dough hook for it now. I saw it on Amazon.
My father gave me his 1978 KA in 82 and I believe it was made in 78. I use it a few times a week and it’s going strong. Wow.
You do have to have their oil changed every so often just like a car, which most people don't realize
Nothing gets close to Kenwood, my mother is still using her grandma mixer (50 years old mixer)
Yes, same with my grandmother's kenwood major a907D. That machine is very strong and had a good quality motor.
Been saving for over 5 years. Finally purchased one a few weeks ago 😊 feel so sophisticated now 😂
The smallest Kitchenaid costs at least 410 Euro in Germany! It only has 275W motor, a Bosch Mum 4 costs only 60 Euro but with 500W motor!
This popular model balances power, capacity, and size for a mixer that is perfectly designed for most home bakers; plus it comes in more than 45 fun colors.
Pros: Easily accomplishes common cooking tasks, a moderate 23 pounds, comes in 47 different colors and finishes, can further customize with interchangeable mixing bowls, works with all KitchenAid attachments, work bowl has a handle
Cons: Too underpowered if you regularly make a lot of stiff or wet doughs
The Artisan Series 5 Quart model strikes a great balance of power, size, and design.
I looked at that model but decided to go with the Professional 5+. I feel like it was a much better deal when it is on sale.
I have been saving for one, and I finally was able to order it today. Hopefully Amazon will be true to their word, and it will be here on Saturday! I had a heck of a time deciding on which color to choose because there are so many options and they are all beautiful. I finally chose the Pistacio so it will match my kitchen, but it was a close call for the Blue Velvet, which wouldn’t have matched at all but is so pretty!
My husband knew I had been wanting one of these for months and found one on FB marketplace for only $50😭😭💕 I'd die for this man
I don't have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer but I do have a Kitchen Aid food processor. I bought it with some Christmas money a few years ago. It was a really good investment. A food processor is great tool to have in the kitchen, especially if you're making Thanksgiving dinner!😁😊😆
