I was lucky enough to know Chief Dan George when I was very young. He was a very kind, soft spoken man who liked to laugh
Bullshit stop lying
@@tsmar9939 I lived in North Vancouver in the 70's and most of my friends were first nation people. I did not who he was until after he died. I just thought he was a friendly old man that I saw when I hung out with my friends.
My uncles knew him well and i got to see him when i went to Van from Nanaimo .he really was a good soft spoken guy.
But if you meet me and forget me, you have lost nothing. but if you meet Jesus Christ and forget him, you have lost everything. Know Jesus Know peace. NO Jesus no peace.
Many years ago when I was young my family was eating at The Tomahawk restaurant on the Capilano Reserve off Marine Drive and Chief Dan was there. My mother (who knew everybody in North Van) had met Chief George once many years earlier with the North Van Reeve and had established that Chief George was very engaging. What happened when my mother approached him to say hello and have him say hello to me was astounding. He remembered my mother's name, where we lived on Mosquito Creek and sadly told us that he had heard of my brother's death after they first met and how sad he was for our family. We were not indigenous peoples ourselves and other than my mother's friendship with the Reeve (possibly from UBC) there was nothing that would have caused him to care. But he did.
That’s a sweet story. I love hearing stories about chief. My real question is did you like the food at the tomahawk?
Words cannot describe the impact this man has had on so many, myself included.
We have honored him at his final resting place with tobacco and sage, a truly wonderful human being. Thank you Jean Claude for this one, it resonates.
Be well🇨🇦🗻🚡🗻
Thank you my friend. 🙂
put a tear in my eye glad you honored him with that blessing.
The closest I came to him was the day of his funeral in Vancouver when I drove past the church. Traffic was backed up for blocks. Wish I had met him in person. I own two of his poetry books and often read them to our children when they were young. He was a great man, and leader.
I met chief Dan George as a child, just him and me, surrounded by so many people but just us. Such a kind great ma
Blown away by 'Little Big Man' both back in the day as well as today had the privilged of taking a photo of Dan George at the Banff Springs hotel in 71 when I worked there. He was a gentleman.
Another great celebration of a person who should be remembered for the good work they did during their short time on earth. Thanks again JCVC!
Thank you Steve. 👍
Chief Dan George also guest-starred on the Beachcombers back in the day. In the 1970s he was everywhere, and if you grew up on the North Shore during those times you couldn’t help but feel proud that he was part of the local community. So fortunate to live, work and play on the traditional lands of the Tsleil Waututh and Squamish people.
Good call D. 👍
Rest in Peace CHIEF DAN GEORGE....you will be sorely missed for your acting skills in the movie: "OUTLAW JOSEY WALES"

I like that poem. I loved his performance in Outlaw Josey Wales
He and my dad were friends back in the 70s. He used to say the prayer before the steakhouse at Rawhide would open at 5p.m.
I never seen his movies. I'm going to start looking!!! What a great poem!
You won’t be disappointed Bevy. Thank you for watching. 🎥
Blessed Respect from Arizona
There was an elementary school named after him. I was there the year it opened, the ceremonies and speaches were fantastic
"As long as the grass grows, the wind blows and the sky is blue".🏹🥁🎶

I truly enjoyed watching CHIEF DAN GEORGE because he is a genuine Indian nationality......
Only an Indian can sneak up on an Indian great actor
Thank you for this vlog. The performance, tho, I remember him most for, is the one episode of Kung Fu. If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s wonderful.
Nice piece on a fellow I believe was a very good person. Chief Dan George made appearances in a number of productions but none made more of an impression on me than those in Little Big Man and The Outlaw Josey Wales. I love both those movies and the Chief figures largely in that love. I truly miss him.
what a lovely tribute. thank you.
Thank you my friend. 🙂

It’s just a piece of rock candy. It’s not for eatin. It’s just for lookin thru.
he was also in a sobriety lifestyle. i couldve gone to him speak at a event about 1978-79. i could kick myself now for not going. i thought someone was pulling a prank by posting on our events board. there is a cool pic of my friend jerry wearing chief dan george's war bonnet in dtes.they were at a sobriety event.sorry cant tell where, the pic is as may break our traditions. last time i saw pic was in 2010.
He,was,a,very,special,man❤
Rest in peace Dan. 🙏
An icon of mother earth.❤️
He is a man to emulate
A true and beautifull
human being
❤❤❤👏👏👏
Nothing sad in that story he is honored in death and rests in his sacred home. None of us can expect more.
Same thing I was thinking ... what 'sad end' are they referring 2. Consequential life overcoming prejudices ... nothing sad there.
We can expect eternal life if we put faith in Jesus Christ- The Chief Shepherd of Psalm 24 and 1 Peter 5:4! Or reject Jesus and spend eternity, not resting in peace, rather tormented for eternity! Revelation 20:11-14!
A true Canadian champion
❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
Lost my autographed books by him 😢
Could you not have at least brushed the grass clippings off of his grave marker before you filmed??
I agree with what you are saying I am a white man married to a black river obituary resort in lake superior native beading eagle feather that was given a gift with a medicine bag I am white but my friend for life is native so the drum and the feather says here
...nothing sad about this mans life!!!
When the Pequot were recognized as a sovereign nation there were only 3or4 living there if they weren't there there would be no casino remember going there in my teens they had nothing not any more good for them
Soooooo, how was this a "sad end?"
Ps very pround to be called George not ah chief but George will survice
Canucks
So how exactly was the ending of this man’s life sad ? Or am I subject to yet another misleading video title ? I’m just trying to learn about who my grandmother shared the stage with at the White Rock Playhouse , and why this man’s name always preceded him .
The video was informative for its 5 minutes but the title left a lot to be desired . Overall , Pretty mid if u ask me. Just another westerner glazing and romanticizing a lifestyle that predated his North American existence; and in all likelihood understanding very little of it
He stole the movie from the star's.
BRAVO CHIEF DAN GEORGE - YOUR LIFE WAS A GIFT TO US THAT KEEPS GIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:^)
👍🏽👍🏽
So he was a whiner, too bad.
We find Clint Eastwood so repetitive ugly, brutal, annoying and shameful.
