The Dena'ina Language! - SpeechLeech 'D'

  • Welcome All!
    I will be uploading videos, of 2 topics, alternating each week:
    - SpeechLeech:
    o Every 2 weeks
    o Based on English alphabet
    o 4 languages per letter (choices)
    o Vote (24 hours) for one of these 4
    o Winner is announced the following day
    o I will attempt to learn the winner language
    o Video will feature result + the next 4 choices
    Criteria for choices:
    1) Must have enough online resources to learn
    2) Must be written using one of the following scripts: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew, [mystery script TBA]
    Criteria for learning:
    1) Be able to introduce myself
    2) Be able to count, say today’s date
    3) Be able to read a passage of text
    4) Discuss something about the language/culture in question in said language
    5) Talk about daily life (weather, food, activities, etc.)
    6) Be able to ramble a bit off topic
    - Honourable Mentions:
    o Every 2 weeks (other)
    o Languages that didn’t make it as one of the choices on SpeechLeech
    o Interesting enough to include in video
    o Random cool stuff
    o Fun facts
    o (No voting)
    If you’ve ever been curious to learn a language, no matter how ‘irrelevant’ or small, just do it!
    Keep it alive, and pass it on to the next generation!

    My great grandma had to kneel on rock salt and couldnt speak our language, we are relearning and so thankful for our elders. Thank you for being awareness to dena'ina.

    btw the tap thing is a hangover from when the hot and cold water came from different tanks and the hot wasn't safe to drink, so the regulations said they had to be kept separate

    Good job highlighting an Athabaskan language!
    However, I do love how low the bar is for Americans/English speakers to say they've "learned a language". Have you ever heard of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages? For one to say they speak a language they must reach level B2, or even C2. Americans say they speak something once they reach A1 level lol

    Прекрасно уже то, что я легко воспринимаю содержание речи на такой скорости, но говорить так быстро, наверное, вряд ли когда-то смогу😅! Спасибо за внезапные знания про новый для меня язык и культуру, в котором сохранились рудименты даже русского языка👀.
    Занимательно, что и в России есть много замечательных малочисленных (и, к сожалению, вымирающих) языков, о которых большинство россиян даже не слышали никогда (и вряд ли узнают). Но для меня эти крупицы - жемчужины 😊.

    Very informational! I'm currently learning Dena'ina and was kinda cringing at the pronunciation sorry but I had to say something lol! I just couldn't not say anything yah know

    Alot of what you are saying is fine, but a huge correction would be we speak kind of backword, like instead of saying would you like some tea? It would be (some tea would you like?)

    You speak very fast. Your pronunciation of our place names is inaccurate.
