Gary, you may have already done this but could you do a video on all the sprays you've created and what plants you used them on and for what diseases/pests?

I agree with Yana. I don't know what is to be disregarded in favor of your most recent recommendations. Do I listen to only videos done within the past year? Or, do I follow your recent sprays based on your labeled episode number. Your videos have been very helpful but I don't know the different between your sprays. Too many videos to keep track of
Thank you, Gary. This video is so helpful! First year growing cucumbers, very successful till now. I believe my spots started in July, too. I’m in west central Indiana border. I’ll make and test the peroxide spray to start. Thanks again! Bless you!
You are not confusing at all. Just needed to say that. This is the 2nd year in a row I have had cucumber issues I've never had to deal with in 10 years of dedicated gardening. And this is extremely helpful.

Great timing- I just lost a good-producing plant to this fungus, now can try to save the others. This summer is the worst I 've had for blights, fungal issues and pests
ME TOO…it has been UNBELIEVABLE!!! Every week I’m ordering some new spray to get rid of funguses, pest or other diseases!! Sometimes twice a week!! What is the deal this year!?!?

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Hi Gary-why do you think it’s so much worse this year? I find that very odd!!! And I know it’s not just me! Im hearing this from TONS of gardeners!
Good tip on the baking soda. I watched a different channel before I found yours and used 2 table spoons and it burned my tomato leaves really bad even though I did it early in am. They never said use less when hot.

Thank goodness for your advice and your shop, or I wouldn't have known about the oils or gotten the right kind. I was spritzing the peppermint oil as I pruned plants, to mask any distress smell that bugs could pick up on and come attack my plants. From you I've learned (so many things) about peroxide and baking soda too. Love the detail you go into about the diseases and the treatments, and how to protect pollinators along the way. As I plan my next garden, I'll be rewatching so many of your videos, incorporating notes into my plans. I also do "future garden calendar", so that old problems don't take me by surprise. Late June through beginning of August is just brutal for pest and disease pressure. It can make people want to give up. Always looking ahead on the future calendar helps be early and on time for the onslaught, helps me feel like I'm in control of my garden, not the nasties. Thanks for all you awesome information and demonstrations. It's so much better to feel like I'm not totally alone in trying to keep my garden healthy so that I can enjoy it. Good health and happiness to you and yours, always!
That garden calendar is a great idea. We just can remember it all. This is where I slow down LOL and the diseases take hold, so I am trying to wrangle them under control.

I like the idea of spraying the soil surface, just like mushrooms grow I woukd think the only way for spores to go up and hit your plants are if they fruit from the ground, and fruiting mycelium can be stopped with h2o2. Awesome video Gary.

Hi Gary. Perfectly timed video for me. I have been battling anthracnose and spider mites. I feel like I am spraying constantly. Things seem to get out of hand when we have frequent rain, the leaves stay wet and I can’t spray. I will try to follow H2O2 spray with baking soda spray. Thanks for all your great advice. This is my first year of patio container gardening and have learned all about the fungal infection, mites, squash bugs and unfortunately vine borers. Hopefully I will be prepared for next year!

I recommend that you suggest that the gardener needs to shower after spraying! I got a terrible rash using H2O2 and peppermint oil. But I killed the fungus….

Using H2o2 since I saw your videos on it years ago :) according to my experience on tomatoes and cucumbers - 0.3 % solution as a prev and a 0.5 % if things go bad. Now - the cucumbers could tolerate much stronger solution ( up to 1%) , and for tomatoes - 0.5 % is a max dose. Tested in different weather conditions. I dilute it from a 35% h202.

Shoot. I am leaving today at noon for a week's vacation. I just sprayed baking soda mix two days ago. We had 2" of rain last night (finally) but I am seeing signs of a fungal infection. I have about 8 or 10 cucumber plants. It is only on the cukes at this point.I was going to do your H2O2 treatment, but I will not have to be away and not be able to do the baking soda thing again til I return. Hi Gary, thanks for your work, so you can use hydrogen peroxide as a prevention and spray your cucumber plants before anything shows up? And if so how early can you spray your cucumber plants? Thanks Sam
In theory from the beginning. Work on a mix ratio that doesn't damage the leaves. This way you get maximum benefit. Please Visit and Thanks! #1. How often do you have to spray the peppermint mixture on the plants to kill the aphids and will this work on white flies? #2. If it rains should you reapply any of the mixtures to the plants?
I would look up the peppermint oil on my channel for details but any soapy oil spray can be effective agains soft bodied insects. Peppermint oil is a huge irritant in addition to them. I I use it more for spider might every 7-10 days. Unless it rains super hard, your are good till next schedule spraying. I planted over 40 cucumber seedlings a few weeks ago here in Thailand. The majority started off ok then suddenly died. So I tried it again, while planting 6 seedlings in my raised beds. Again I lost them all, apart from the ones in my raised beds, or at least 50% of them. I believe that they all died because of the heavy clay soil, which I diluted with compost in my raised beds.
Its hard to know without see the whole process but I would plant some as your are, really prepare a space with lots organic matter and compost. See if you notice a difference by varying plant area with organic matter and compost. Hi! I was having a problem with all my plants not really growing at all from May-July…I eliminated all other possible causes…so I KNEW it was my soil but had no idea what the problem was or how to fix it!! So I took a LARGE cup to a local nursery where they tested my soil…Im in the south US where we have very much clay soil…Ive been gardening for a long time so I knew that..so when building my raised bed, I went overboard & added TOO MUCH composed humus, top soil & mulch…my pH in my raised bed was 5.1! It shouldn’t ever be lower than 6.2! So after instructions from the nursery, I had to add lime, cow manure & good ole DIRT from my yard!! It takes a while for the soil to acclimate & become good, high quality soil, but my plants almost immediately started growing MUCH better!! So my whole point is just to recommend that you have your soil tested asap!! Don’t waste your time or lose anymore plants trying to figure it out when you’ve already lost so many! Good luck!! We’re all still learning!!!
Good day to you. I am trying butternut squash for the first time, we are getting a lot of rain. I noticed the leaves are getting yellow and then dry . What should I do. I live in the islands.
Not much you can do. If the leaves are fungus free and you have fertilize ground, there is much to do. I would need to see more what is going on. So, I hope I didn't mess up my plants...I sprayed my cucumber and squash leaves with the H2O2 water, last night @ dusk (to dark). Relistened to this video this morning and you said to spray in the morning. 😳 Was that a major mistake?
In theory but I have never tried it. I would test it. My blog The Rusted Garden Journal is now getting some TLC. Ill we posting new garden articles in there several times a week. DIY recipes is the next series. Cheers!

I wonder if the plants might be experiencing a high VPD, where basically the air is too dry & sucks moisture out of the leaves too quickly causing calcium toxicity. My cucumbers have always looked like yours but I've seen some hydroponic farms with some perfect plants. Often times people confuse high VPD(high temps with low moisture causing calcium toxicity) with the idea that they have herbicides in their recently purchased soil or amendment.
I dont know. Always interesting to research. This is a pretty basic pattern I get every year that can be managed by antifungals. I tend to slack of late July and bingo. What do I do because my cucumber plants are inside? They are in Aerogardens and Kratky Methods in other containers How do I spray inside without hurting anything and myself? There Is a Lost Coast Spray...I wonder if that works for this. I've used it outside in my Tower Gardens for the Powdery Mildew. I think I rember it dried up the leaf and fell off. I wonder if it works on this Mildew? What would you use inside the house? Thank You!!!

I’m always worried about spraying my cucumbers plants because I’m worried that it will get on the flowers and prevent pollinators. Have you found a decrease in pollinator activity after you spray? Does it effect the flowers at all?

I have used H2O2 spray as per your formula on my tomatoes and about to do the same for the green beans, squash, eggplant and cucumbers. Do you also use this spray on peppers?

Does it not make soil sterile? I may have it backwards but if it gets into the leaf won’t it go down to the root and sterilize the soil? Or does it stay on the leaf? Minerals are very expensive these days 😂
One of the articles I read said burn or deep plow the soil at the end of the season or don't plant cucumbers or squash family in that area for 3 years Because the soil is infected with the spores
You could. It doesnt stay on the leaves or soil for long, so you are not piling it on. First time growing cucumbers. Can the fungus affect cucumber? I have two cucumber plants and they look like they have this fungus. The cucumbers were good size but pale yellow? Do you think they are edible?
Yellowing over the entire cuke can be overripening, from leaving it on the vine too long. It's also what can happen if you have poor soil and/or drainage. (Assuming you've already confirmed these aren't a yellow variety of cukes 😉)
They become yellow from being over mature. Just pick them sooner. I am having the same issue! One variety- Lemon cukes, is full of blossoms and the plants are beautiful, but not one cucumber. Then, in another bed, about 20 feet away, the Japanese cukes are full of blossoms and fruits! I thought maybe the problem was no flowers close enough for bees to pollinate, but then I found the other plants full of cukes, hiding behind heavy leaf growth. I don’t know what is going on.
Your night temps need to get below 75f & you might try covering them for 10-12 hours of total darkness. I planted luffa in February & not a single flower yet, the days get below 13 hours of sunlight around August 22nd so I hope to see some flowers then.

Gary, you may have already done this but could you do a video on all the sprays you've created and what plants you used them on and for what diseases/pests?
I kinda need a chart too b/c some of these sprays must be reapplied if it rains but can only be used 4-7 times per year, it's confusingly complex.
I have lots of videos on it but I change a lot year to year so I dont have a cut and dry video on it yet, in one place

I agree with Yana. I don't know what is to be disregarded in favor of your most recent recommendations. Do I listen to only videos done within the past year? Or, do I follow your recent sprays based on your labeled episode number.
Your videos have been very helpful but I don't know the different between your sprays. Too many videos to keep track of
Perfect timing. Were you peeking in my garden? LOL.
Thanks Gary!

Yeah the same mixes can be problematic in high temps verses the cooler spring or earlier summer.

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN When you get bogged down and feel like, "oh just let the bugs have it", remember that a lot of us out here need you. Most of our gardens aren't as big as yours, so every plant we lose is a huge deal - economies of scale. A lot of us are looking at this like needed food, not a novelty. You've worked so hard at your garden, and at Freetown. We depend on you to teach us how to start, maintain, and persevere with our gardens. Let us be your buoy, just like you are ours.
Thank you so much for this video!! So thorough, really appreciate all you advice and experience!!

I did a late garden of cucumbers around July 21st and now I have an infestation of yellow leaves. I’m zone 8 and it has been extremely hot & humid. I tried peroxide spray just didn’t do it correctly. Thanks for info I will be better prepared next year. Love you channel!
I have some disease on my cukes too. Other antifungals might help cukes more if things get bad. But the h202 has been keeping mine in check for now. Each garden is different, so maybe you did h202 correctly and it just isn't helping.

H202 can go on leaves wet. It might help. Experiment too. Hit a few with a good soaking of h202 and see what it does.

I recommend that you suggest that the gardener needs to shower after spraying! I got a terrible rash using H2O2 and peppermint oil. But I killed the fungus….
A good wash is always good but I would be cautious in your case with breathing it in too. Maybe a mask, if you get a reaction on your skin.

Great info. Thanks.

Hello, I just found your channel and LOVE all the advice you give for us home gardeners. I would like you to talk about Corn Dieases. Also, a few varieties of Corn you like to grow for diease resistance. I found a fungus at base of stalk, light purple in color. I removed the stalk and am concerned about spread.

This gardening stuff is stressful lol Thanks for all your guidance!
Good luck. And the h202 should help. I always say I dont travel between Apri and September.

Gary,
I've read you can sprinkle cinnamon on the soil to combat fungus in the soil.
Your thoughts?
For indoor seed starts it works. Outside, IMO, a waste of time and expensive. It only works on soil surface for some issues and the quantity needed outdoors would be crazy expensive.

If you go it on for a couple hours, you should be good. Since the leaves look good, test spray the baking soda too and wait 1 day or so. You dont want to mess up good looking leaves if they're is no rush.

Well done, Question - For fruit trees [plums/peaches] would you use H202 or neem oil and soap per gal of water?
Trees I am still learning about. One got gray mold this year. I am going to experiment next year starting with dormant oils this year or whenever the right time is to start.

I started with 8 tbsp peroxide in one gallon of water. Then reduced to 6 tbsp but it was still too strong for my zucchini plants.

No, It's good at night or early morning when the temp is lower.
@@perfum999thanks! I was wondering about this as well.
Hi Gary can we use this spray also for squash blossom fungus? Or blossom rot?
In theory but I have never tried it. I would test it.

What concentration and frequency would you spray indoor houseplants please?
I just dont do that regularly so I dont know.
Thank you so much for 🙏

They are in Aerogardens and Kratky Methods in other containers
How do I spray inside without hurting anything and myself? There Is a Lost Coast Spray...I wonder if that works for this. I've used it outside in my Tower Gardens for the Powdery Mildew. I think I rember it dried up the leaf and fell off. I wonder if it works on this Mildew? What would you use inside the house? Thank You!!!
Not sure but you can find organic stuff. I have a baking soda spray on my channel for fungal issues.

Baking soda is really just water and baking soda. I have videos on it. Some people put in a little soap.

For those you can. Any residue can react with h202 and neutralize it though. So rinse well.

Does it not make soil sterile? I may have it backwards but if it gets into the leaf won’t it go down to the root and sterilize the soil? Or does it stay on the leaf? Minerals are very expensive these days 😂
One of the articles I read said burn or deep plow the soil at the end of the season or don't plant cucumbers or squash family in that area for 3 years
Because the soil is infected with the spores
Wanted to know if it is ok to use the peroxide spray every 3 to 5 days for mold?? Thanks from Mobile, AL
You could. It doesnt stay on the leaves or soil for long, so you are not piling it on.

Do you get these diseases in hot, dry climates like we are having in Central Cali? Low humidity and no rain.
Not often but they can show up. Or I should say not as bad. Central Cali seems to get more insects then the diseases I got over here in Maryland.

I tried this on our watermelon, cantaloupe and tomatoes.. I saw results overnight! Even one of my watermelon that had sticky blight on it looked better. Tat one was not going to be picked, but just wanted to see what it would do. The blight lightened up at least 70 percent and no longer stitchy to the touch. Thank you!!!
If the peroxide spray wets the flowers, can they still be pollinated by bees, or will the spray hurt the flowers?
Yeah no worries. And tomatoes are self pollinating.

Is it just hydrogen peroxide from store
How long before the the hydrogen peroxide breaks down in the water solution and is no longer effective? Do I need to make a fresh solution every day? every week? This will effect how big a batch I make each time.
I would make it every day if you can but it should last for weeks if it is not hit by daylight.

My plants do not have one cucumber. Not sure what’s going on. Plants look good but no produce.
It’s frustrating. No bees so I hand pollinated some of my melons and they are growing nicely.
It can take time when heat is up. Plants know not to grow fruit as its just too hot.
