Here's the track that plays in the scene where the family gathers for dinner in episode 8 of house of the Dragon.
This is not the official track, it's a re-creation made by me.

I wasn't expecting so much warmth in a show like this, that's what made this so shockingly sad. This scene wasn't just the calm before the storm, it was what could have been
The family united, the children bickering as they do, albeit a bit more extreme. The parents and adults laughing, and the Grandparents looking over it all with pride and happiness.
What could of been, it makes the Dance all the more tragic
@@AncientSavant7572 In a way this feast was the Dance of the Dragons, and what came after was the alternate name: the Dying of the Dragons
@@belleinde6759 Yes. It would be way better if they stayed in peace like this. But its so difficult, because humanity always likes to start pointless conflicts. And this pointless conflict culminated in the end of the Dragons, the loss of their symbol, and consequently weakening of the strongest house in Westeros
its a short and last glimpse of viserys utopia
Everyone came together to support the King in his last days because they all love him and know that they will all kill each other when he is gone so they wanted to put on the united front so that the other Houses will see the House of the Dragon as strong even if the King is old and dying.
Seeing the little smile on Visery's face during this scene actually hit me in da feels. Was genuinely tearing up, even knowing how this is going to go.
Man what tears, I cried my soul
everytime I watch episode 8 cry so much!!!!
its soo freakin sad...as a book reader I would havenever thought that I will care about King Viserys as much as I did.... he wouldhave been heartbroken if he wouldhave seen that his family is going to slaughter eachother
@@lilithpetite it came out 5 days ago. How many times can you watch it lol
@@HK-gm8pe If Paddy is to be believed, even George has said this Viserys is more interesting than book Viserys. Which to me makes sense; since Book Viserys seemed to just kind of ignore the growing divide between the Greens and the Blacks (assuming he noticed it at all), his illness doesn't occur (instead just becoming so fat he can barely walk) & with both of those things being the case, almost nothing of what we see from him here happens in the book. No dramatic return to the Throne, no last family dinner, no heartfelt speech to try and mend the gap.
All these changes made Viserys a much more tragic character and allowed him to really make him mark, when all 8 episodes he features in could be considered nothing but a prologue to the Dance Of Dragons.
Ramin’s work really shines in this episode. What a great soundtrack for an altogether perfect hour of television.
It's been shining all season long. He truly is a great composer and this show wouldn't be anywhere as good without him.
except this isn’t ramins work. just an amateur ripoff
@@MasterBlaster171 lmao obviously, but the official soundtrack hasn't been released so this is good enough
Very well said
Even Queen Alicent was hopeful with the rekindling of her friendship with Princess Rhaenyra. What a series.
They could've been friends had circumstances not affected them. Neither of them were wrong. Neither were evil.
Even OTTO was smiling, laughing, and clapping along with the music as Jace and Helaena danced.
It couldn't last, sadly, but I am profoundly glad that Viserys's last memory was his family actually getting along and enjoying themselves in peace, for once.
Too bad they love naming everyone Aegon
@@vikingthedude hahahaha indeed
@@adityakadam8181 alicent literally tried to take the eye of a child in the last episode what are you talking about. And rhaenyra has been the only one trying to make peace between the two of them.

I cannot understand why they left it off. It was the song I was most looking forward to

Ps one of the best of the soundtrack
@@lucafavole The motif is in there but its not the same track that played during the dinner
At least Viserys died having seen his family happy one last time... It was such a beautiful and tragic scene, knowing what comes after...
Viserys dies with hope in his heart that he successfully bridged the gap between the two sides and it would have broken his heart utterly to see what will happen between them. It is a mercy that he will never see what comes next.
I was so relieved about this, he deserved a final happy moment with his whole family.
@@JamesTobiasStewart the mercy he deserved
This scene really got to me. This will sound some what ridiculous to some but it reminded me of my wedding. I had a private wedding and my uncle who I dearly loved attended. He had terminal cancer and was extremely poorly. As we all sat around the table enjoying each others company, he looked on at us with a sense of pride and happiness that he was with us to enjoy the moment. He was visually so so poorly but just wanted to be there in our company. He passed away 8 weeks later and I will miss him everyday.
This is beautiful. As a hospice nurse I’ve been to many family dinners like that to tend to the sick and honor their last wishes, words really don’t describe it.
@@allypatterson2625 it truly was a beautiful day. You could see he was in pain but he just wanted to drink it all in. Oh man, I'm crying again 😢.
I'm so sorry for your loss, but so glad that you and he had that memory to hold onto. I can see why that scene tugged at your heart.
@@AlerieHightower Thank you ❤. It is a memory that will last a lifetime.
thank you for sharing this beautiful moment. life is all about those glimpes of happiness. stay strong!
I loved that Viserys left the table before the boys started fighting. I’m glad he was able to go out in peace like that, in spite of all his pain.
In just eight episodes Paddy created one of the most sympathetic characters in both GoT and HotD.
He was so, so very good. He took very much a throwaway character from the books, who was basically just a plot device, and made him into such a beautiful soul. Ultimately maybe not a good king, but such a good man. I cried just as hard during this episode as I did when they burned Shireen in GoT.
It's because he left the table that the boys started fighting
@@arkanic13 foreshadowing what's gonna happen when he leaves the world.
He should never leave the room
My love
This. This is television. Truly tragic, happy, and just incredible. The motifs spring joy as everyone laughs and smiles, even Otto, until the somber violin is all that’s left and everything begins to crumble to the ground. So much potential for rekindling and for that “Happily Ever After” but unfortunately, or fortunately, this isn’t that kind of show. Truly heart wrenching. Some incredibly talented work on all fronts.
Yep!
This is what television really is.
Shame on shows like she-hulk .
This is one of those episodes that's gonna hurt more on rewatching when series is finished.
@@Noone91875 So true. I cried harder on my second watch than I did the first time. Paddy just destroyed my heart.
Perfectly said
@@AlerieHightower If Paddy doesn't win awards for this, I refuse to believe in any kind of awards anymore. When your portrayal is so good that the original creator of your character says "you made a more compelling character than I did", you are on a whole other level of acting. And the thing is, he is just one of so many brilliant actors on this show... Fantastic.
This is the comment that resonates pretty well with my own experience the best, have my like and i wish you have a very good day/night.
Genuinely got me all choked up. The fact that they all decided to behave like an actual family for once, all for the sake of his last wish. That was incredibly powerful.
So many troublemakers on that table (Daemon, Aemond, Aegon, perhaps even Jace) and they all tacitly decided to hold the peace, if only for the little while he was at the table.
They let the old man die happy, thinking he'd succeeded in mending the rift.
Daemon isn't a trouble maker when it comes to family. Others? Well yes.
Daemon wasn't causing any trouble at that dinner, it was all the kids, luce smirking at aemond when the pig came out, about the bullying they did on him as a child. Then aegon with his remark to baela about wanting a real man. And then aemond with his strong boys remark.
I don't know i hated Otto High Tower ever since i learned of his motives, but seeing him smile, laugh and clap in this moment made my heart melt. It was perfection if that world ever held meaning in tv shows history.
Man, the feels I felt with this scene. The way the music shifts to almost slow time down and put us inside Viserys' head about a minute in. His final happy moment. Just perfect.
Every time this motif from Aemma's death scene played in the episode it broke my heart. She loomed large over the whole thing.
The dinner scene was epic....just so beautiful!
They way Viserys looks Jace and Helaena dancing is very sad as if he was being reminded of his younger years with the love of his life Aemma. 😔
I haven't cried this much for a TV show except for when Jon was named king in the north. Amazing work by Ramin, Paddy and the director
After this episode it made me just want to re watch the first episode again just to see viserys healthy and happy. What an amazing show. The characters feel so real.

Hey Diego, thanks for all the work as always. Will you make the theme for when we arrive to dragonstone and then daemon is climbing the mountain? Is it the same as when he and caraxes first arrived at stepstones ?
fantastique, King Viserys I. what character in the show, grrm was right HBO made a better viserys compared to the books.
It's a sin that this doesn't exist on the official soundtrack of the series. Thank goodness for this video. Amazing music!
This scene teared out my heart. They were this close to make peace and they laugh together and are happy, but as soon as Viserys leaves we know it was a farce and although Alicent has made her peace with Rhaenyra being queen (or so I think) her children ruin it all.
I don't even think the children ruined it. Alicent was still IMO sincerely kind to Rhaenyra before they left for Dragonstone. It was the tragic misunderstanding of Viserys' last words about the prophecy. Ugh, my heart!!
@@AlerieHightower and not only that there's always otto a few inches away from her ears making sure she doesn't forget her "goal"
Or was it Rhaenyras son laughing at the roasted pig in front of Aemond ?? 😅
@@Alex-mn1fb should have written "their children" true, Rhaenyras children aren't innocent by any means
@@randomdude4207 meh, im just nitpicking. 🤗 But that is what I loved in this show, its just how it is in real life. Someone laughs, maybe even not maliciously, but someone takes it as great offense. But you get that Aemond is a different creature by now. He sees the boy who cut out his eye, got no punishment for it, and used to laugh and tease him when he was young. You just get why it boils up like this at this point. You wish it didnt, but you get why it did. I love how the mothers could be on a cusp of making peace, but their hatred had spilt over onto the kids and it has a life of its own now.
I honestly cried at the scene,so pure,so innocent for once.
I swear I'll go and knock on Ramin's front door and demand that he puts this song on Spotify. LIKE THIS IS THE ONE SONG I ANTICIPATED THE MOST TO BE RELEASED!!! I have to go back here on UA-cam to listen to this masterpiece every time.

I haven't cried yet for House of the Dragom, but this scene just hits different. All Viserys wants, and any common family wants is to be happy, to pass on knowing your house was kind, loving, and at peace. It's a hope all want to hold onto but it only takes a few to break it.
I’ve seen a lot of people say Viserys was a weakling; this man descended into the Dragonpit and stirred BALERION THE BLACK DREAD into allowing him to ride on his back for four flights around the Red Keep, which took all the strength the old dragon had left in him. The very same mount of the Conqueror himself! A dragon hatched in Old Valyria before the Doom. Viserys never rode another dragon after Balerion died the following year. He allowed Viserys to be his last dragonrider. Viserys was a true Targaryen and a good man; Balerion saw that and so do I.
This music starts with sort of joyous melody to tragic after a while. It grabs the hearts of the audience at the moment and sort of hints at what is going to happen.
I literally cried at this scene...it's not only a goodbye or his last dinner, but it is a vision of how things could have been :/ How easy and peaceful the world could have been when things would have been different.
It's too tragic and sad - and this scene ist a masterpiece!
While this piece isn’t on the OST (unfortunately because I love it) we do get a similar version that is slower, sadder, and more dramatic. It’s called “An Impossible Choice”, and I believe it plays around the time Queen Aemma and Baelon die in the first episode. If that’s correct, then that’s genius to place a happier version in this scene because Viserys knows he doesn’t have much longer and he’ll be with Aemma soon. Just my thoughts on the placing, I could be totally wrong. 😊
Unfortunately he will never meet aemma, As Jon snow said: there is nothing at all on the other side
King Viserys, the Peaceful. Played brilliantly by Paddy Considine. My favourite character.
When a man’s dedication to family and an existential prophecy are inextricably linked.
This piece is fantastic. A real, warm, almost unexpected treat among it all. Bitter sweetness in heaps.

This scene and song made me cry. Not afraid to admit it. It got me when Daemon looked over at his brother with concern. As bad as people thought he was, he always loved his brother.
One of the most tragic scene i’v ever seen, considering what will happen next… Such a shame, they could have been invincible together. This theme is a master piece❤️
Truly one of the best musical choices for this. Loved this scene. Viserys was like "I did it. I averted disaster and death with my final breath. My daughter and brother happy. My wife and best friend are even laughing and smiling. And all my kids and grandkids are reunited and smiling. I did it." Then AEMOND COULDNT HANDLE THE DAMNED PIG
He handled it, it was luke who couldnt stop smirking
@@rektscope8860 I am not sure he handled it, he wouldn't have ordered the pig then. And even if Luke didn't smirk the outcome would have been pretty much the same. And besides, it was Aegon who thought about the pig.
luke insulted him a little bit
@@Dzaen2 the pig joke doesn't make any sense because he has the biggest dragon now. I don't know why would they still laugh at him or why he would ever feel insecure owning such a beast. He has already outdone all 3 of them

Who would have thought that in a show about Dragons, the best episode have none in it.
The magic of Good television
It had 7 of them around one table.
True tho, two of the most iconic scenes in this show have been the lowest budget, just a walk and a dinner
I mean I wouldn't say it's a show about dragons. They're no small part of it, but the show isn't about them.
Tragic though it all is, I'm happy for Viserys's sake that his last memory was of his family actually sitting down together and enjoying themselves in peace, for once. Reminds me of his death in the book, too;
On the third day of the third moon of 129 AC, Princess Helaena brought her three children to visit with the king in his chambers. The twins, Jaehaerys and Jaehaera, were six years old, their brother, Maelor, only two. His Grace gave the babe a pearl ring off his finger to play with, and told the twins the story of how their great-great grandsire and namesake Jaehaerys had flown his dragon north to the Wall to defeat a vast host of wildlings, giants, and wargs. Though the children had heard the story a dozen times before, they listened
attentively.
Afterward the king sent them away, pleading weariness and a tightness in his chest. Then Viserys of House Targaryen, the First of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm, closed his eyes and went to sleep.
He never woke. He was fifty-two years old, and had reigned over most of Westeros for twenty-six years.
*Then the storm broke, and the dragons danced.*

After a second watch I realized how many times smaller parts of this piece play throughout the season, and it culminates in the two versions we hear in this episode, “Protector of the Realm” during the throne room scene, and this version during the dinner. Its almost like Viserys’ theme.
I love the two sides to it; “Protector of the Realm” is powerful, devastating, strong, while this version is tragic, moving, and bittersweet
I wanted to add that Protector of the Realm is powerful but in a chaotic way. It reminds me of Viserys swinging the sword, unable to kill that (stag?). Almost like destructive power he doesn’t know how to control, like dragonfire
the moment it switch to sad melody 0:45 that hurts me so bad, that makes me realise it's time to say goodbye to King Viserys!!!
The inflection from chipper dinner music to dad farewell anthem was the softest most painful kick in the feels…
This music describes what Viserys always wanted. Just his family to be happy and at peace with each other. Truly tragic character 😢. Damn you Otto 🤬
I cried like a baby when the camera zoomed up on Viserys and his smile... it was all he ever wanted. A loving family, together and happy. At least he died knowing it's all gonna be alright, even though it wont 😭 rest in peace, Your Grace
This begins as one of the happiest pieces of music in the GoT universe, and I love it. Then it takes such a turn, and I still love it. All together, it is just so otherworldly...
King Viserys - Too good of a man to play the game, he just wanted everyone to get along.
Incredible track, very moving seeing him look around at his legacy thinking he'd put it right in his last moments.
Why isn’t this on the official soundtrack list?? This is so beautiful. It’s probably the only soundtrack that touched my Soul in this season & the way Viserys looked at that …❤️🩹
RIP Viserys gone but never forgotten
This scene and the music, moved me to tears 😪.. thank you for this rendition Diego!
This is of the most emotional songs I have heard in quite a while, and paired with the dinner scene, it made me bawl my eyes out
Man paddy! What an incredible actor. Viserys character made me feel so many emotions, yet at the end of it all, all I could feel is such sorrow and pity because of what is to come. He did an amazing job capturing this moment, you can see it in his eyes and expression how he is trying to freeze this moment, to hold this moment as much as he can. And perhaps him crying from joy and sadness because it is the last time he will see his family like this. I hope viserys found some peace in having this one moment in his memory.

Definitely the music that made the biggest impression on me with Light of the seven. Ramin Djawadi's work is incredible and he proves in each episode the importance of music to support the emotion of the series. Just fantastic.

I love the musical turn. The dinner is pure joy and warmth, a triumph of goodwill and family. But it's really a painful moment, as Viserys knows he'll have to leave.

Best moment of the shoe for me. I legit cried
Ramin is such a brilliant composer. This scene was so emotional for me. I loved King Viserys and am happy that he at least passed away believing that his family finally came together.
Living and studying abroad away from my mother I teared up a little bit. I hope I can finish my studies as soon as possible and be there with my mother in her old age. I wish everyone could go out like Viserys, around their loved ones.
Viserys final moments seeing people in his family get along, really hit me.His smile as if he was ready to move on thinking this would be how it is.Viserys the peaceful really suits his name
This song in my opinion completely nails the emotions of joy, fun, family, accomplishments, sadness, despair, loss
I'm not normally one for getting genuinely upset when it comes to tv shows but man this reminded me so much of my grandad.

Whenever I hear to this I tear up seeing how happy Viserys was to see his family together. His most loved people. He only wanted a happy family. A simple thing. Feel so bad for the man. Rest in peace Viserys.
What every good man who built their life on family and legacy deserves at the end: to see his family happy one last time. God bless Paddy Considine and Ramin Djawadi for setting the tone in this scene so beautifully.
That was a really emotional scene, Viserys always wanted his family united and at least he saw that for a moment, and the music god I love it 😭
This scene is ageless because of the meaning it holds in everyone's life our elders feel this way and with passing of time we will feel the same. So many differences, conflicts , arguments, egos and misunderstandings in our families but that old man or woman wants to see us together and simply be happy. One day we will be that old man or that old woman wishing the same . "Untill we breathe our last "
If only Alicent hadn't misunderstood what Viserys said in hie final moments. I almost cried when Viserys was watching his family and smiling, he was so hopeful that they'd live peacefully together after that.
I’m bummed because I’ve got the OST and can’t find a track to match the dinner scene. I’ll be revisiting this often!
