Anyone else love the fact that Chris just said "The love thing is hard for me." and Karen is sitting right their in the audience! Lol! Plus he said before that he and Jayne 'love each other." He only loves Jayne!!!
StablerCastleBooth I would say much lessser version. Sometimes I'm a bit sorry for Karen - she's more famous because of her relationship with Christopher Dean than for her skating. But she seems to be satisfied with that, especially that she's the kind of person who loves attention.
I think they have stated they didn't want to ruin their professional relationship as they had seen other dance couples get together then fall apart and most likely friendship. Even apart they had to talk to each other every day or every other day. Definitely a bond there.
I absolutely couldn't stand when Larry King asked personal questions and I can't stand the line of questioning that Piers took. Couldn't let it go with one question -- had to keep pushing. It is none of his business and none of our business.
The first time I read the comments from people who thought Chris is in love with Jayne, I thought it was wishful thinking. Since then I've watched a number of interviews and I agree. After they won in 1984, he went to kiss her and she turned her head. When he was asked about there personal relationship he answered, "Not now". They have explained his answer different ways. I think he blurted out what he was thinking.
From the time I sat and watched them in Sarjevo dancing Bolero until the day these old eyes close for the last time, Jane and Chris without doubt are the 'happy place' I go to when I feel sad or low. The enjoyment they have brought to MILLIONS! It is past time Chris was KNIGHTED and Jane made a LADY or DAME or appropriate accolade. Poor Chris should not have chosen Isabelle DuCheney! There is clear love between J & C but as ice dancers and partners.
Their relationship is so deep. When Jayne starts crying she looks at Chris and immediately he takes his hand and rubs her back. She gives a slight nod of the head letting him know she is alright. It is subtle which shows the depth and connection of their relationship. Extraordinary. She watches him carefully as if to be there for him when he talks about difficult times.
Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only fan who was looking at the emotions being conveyed by him to Jayne. Now that I have time to read the comments, I am finding out that a lot of fans feel the emotions , too. God bless us fans who feel this way.
I find it a difficult one to judge. I know this sounds odd but I don't think they are in love. I do think they are soulmates though. What I don't get though is why they are covering up their relationship from 1975/76. In the 1980s they skipped around the question but occassionally answered it such as for the 1983 biography. It is so heavily implied and matches everything around it. However, now they seem to actively editing it out. For instance, for their 2014 autobiography they quoted themselves from 1983 but edited out anything that hinted at it. Based on what audience members have said they have edited out the details in this interview which matched but later when asked they changed them all.
Not so sure. It could be they are still professionally skating and that was an important aspect for her/them not to be a couple since they saw other couples dissolve due to an intimate relationship. If she was widowed who knows if her and Chris would couple up now that they are nearing retirement or semi retirement.
I still struggle to understand how they get away with this. I genuinely think it did slip out what Chris said. I think he was gonna admit to them having a kiss but Jayne panicked. You can tell they make it up as they go along. They slept more than once pure and simple. It probably did stop when they started competing but it's OBV they slept together. They won't ever admit it though. What's most obvious is how Chris is in love with her and A LOT of people have said it.
Interesting you say that. Although, I wouldn't go as far, I do agree with most of what you said. When I first watched this I took it at fave value. But recently I have read their 1983 biography, their 1994 biography, their 1995 autobiography and their 2014 autobiography as well lots of interviews. Now I see it in a completely different light. It seems like the plan was to stick with their usual method but then just like Chris had done before he pushed it a little further. Jayne has often commented on that and has never been happy with him doing that. There a few things that don't make sense or are a little suspicious: 1 - The timing: According to an audience member this was 1975 at their start of their partnership. However, these details were edited out and when they were brought up again it was in a 2018 interview and now suddenly they were 14 years old and before their partnership. So, why did they change it? 2 - The 1975 suggestion fits perfectly. It matches what they said in their 1983 biography (in not so many words). The age 14 theory makes no sense as up until 1995 their story was consistent and they didn't know each other until they were 15 or 16. (As well as how it doesn't match a lot of other events, commented, etc) 3 - Like Philip Schofield said the following week, the word "dabble" suggests a more than a one time thing. Yet, it turned into a one kiss which they apparently laughed about. 4 - The whole bus thing came part of the story. Why? It was clear that Jayne was making that up as she went along and the whole thing sounded like a joke. The only part I don't agree with you is that I honestly don't think they slept together. I believe them when they say that as teenagers they were so innocent and naive. It is not that I don't think they didn't have the right attraction but more that it was a bit too fat for them. I am quite certain that they had some kind of romantic relationship and I am sure they kissed, but that is all. It was more the time together and how they went on holiday together, etc.
They have both been in such a journey away from each other. Some women are just wanting to be a mother and they can’t have children where some women just have babies for the sake of it really is a frustrating thing. You can see it that Jayne just wanted to have children and having gone thru an ectopic pregnancy must’ve been a dreadful time in her life. Chris definitely just wants to have love in his life and the one person he loved was his mother and then she just walked out on him. When I first started watching dancing on ice I asked my mum if they were a couple but my mum said “no...but everyone thot that they were.” So it wasn’t just me that thot it then. They just dabbled.
To those who say that Chris and Jayne shouldn't have talked about Chris' marriage to Isabelle, the point is that Isabelle started the nastiness by saying out in public why her marriage to Chris didn't work out - i.e., because Jayne was in her marriage (3 people in her marriage). Once Isabelle opened that can of worms, the media started asking questions and STILL ask questions which Chris and Jayne have to respond. You will note that Chris himself did not say anything bad about Isabelle. But Isabelle attacked Jayne also with her allegations - that Jayne was instrumental in her marriage breakdown. Every time this question is asked, Jayne dragged into Isabelle's divorce from Chris again. Jayne has to respond by pointing out it's not her who broke up Chris and Isabelle's marriage. And given her loyalty to Chris, it's not surprising she thinks that the fault lies with Isabelle, especially when Isabelle set Jayne up as the reason for the marriage breaking down.
I don't say they shouldn't talk about his marriage, it shouldn't be excluded when it comes to Life Stories as it was part of his life. It was the question ("Did you love her?") which I find utterly tactless, and Jayne's behaviour was completely out of place imo, that's what I wanted to say. What's nasty about stating that the presence of a third party was crucial in the breakdown of a marriage? The thought of your husband spending a lot of time with a workmate who hates you isn't really nice. Isabelle had to answer all these questions as well in public once they had announced their divorce, it was as difficult and painful for her as it was for Christopher. The yellow press wrote a lot about it back in the day and heaven knows what had really been said and what not. Of course Jayne's perception is different. This LS Show was about the lives of J and C, so of course everything is about their opinions and experiences. I believe that Jayne is not a mean person in general, and I'm sorry if my previous posts have led to that impression. They were only meant to comment on her behaviour here in this particular situation.
Josie Fernad I'm sure both of them contributed the collapse of their marriage. But how could you say that she didn't start talking about the breakdown of her marriage by will? Was she forced to do it? She could have said that they had their reasons and she didn't need to put Jayne into all of this.
Josie Fernad She is a human being, but she's not a saint (I admit neither is Chris). It doesn't matter that she didin't know people would still talk about her divorce 20 years later. She wasn't an ordinary person who had no contact with media in their life and didn't know how to talk to them. You are making a naive little girl of her. And I am sure she wasn't.
Josie Fernad I believe it wasn't your intention to make Isabelle a saint. But when I read your comments I have impression that you regard her as such. And the last paragraph where you say how diplomatic, etc. she is, only proves that. Let's just agree that she had rights to her answers, but also Jayne and Chris have rights to their feelings. As you said there's no "truth" or "untruth" when it comes to feelings. Also notice, that nobody said anything against Isabelle in this thread until It was you who started bashing Jayne and Chris.
this part is kinda sad :( edit: rewatching this and jaynes denial about their 'moment' is incredibly funny though i cant lie 😭. some of chris' facial expressions in the first 2/3 minutes are sending me
Imagine if the greatest ice skating duo had married. The pairing would've been a match made in heaven. And made one of the great love stories ❤ of the 20th century. A couple of years younger than Chris, I've been watching them since the late 70's. Thank you Chris and Jane for your poetic magic on ice. ❤
Was it really necessary to put Jayne through that?! When she breaks down and looks to Chris for help, he immediately tries to comfort her and tells Morgan "She's never talked about it in public before." To which Morgan replies "I realize that" but continues to expect an answer from her. I'm sorry, but I really dislike Piers Morgan. His questions often overstep the bounds of good taste and consideration and veer into "getting the scoop" no one else has gotten. (Witness his elation at getting Chris to admit that he and Jayne may have "dabbled" in kissing back when they were teenagers. "This is bigger than Bolero!" Seriously??!)
Love the interview! I think pretty much only Davis/White (and maybe Weaver/Poje...I'm sure I'm missing others) would understand their non-romantic relationship. All of these couples really could be married couples. They must highly respect each other.
Anyone else love the fact that Chris just said "The love thing is hard for me." and Karen is sitting right their in the audience! Lol!
Plus he said before that he and Jayne 'love each other." He only loves Jayne!!!
Karen seems to be Jayne's substitute. Chris can't be with Jayne, so he is with a woman, who is available.
Jonatan Wildchild I think that too! i mean she is pretty much the (in my opinion) lesser version of Jayne!
