What turned out to be your favourite image is just glorious. It's Narnia, and the coppery twigs and grasses work so well. These trees are just so full of character, and the way the snow stuck to the trunks and branches was just magical.

I feel like the orange tones signify life - in the midst of near death. Very nice, as usual. Thanks.

it should become one of the great photographic wisdoms: never judge a photo in the field. They are usually worse than expected. But in this case, your photo from 13:00 is brilliant.

Wonderful images as usual Stuart. As always you only get out what you put in. This is a classical example of getting out there and embracing the elements. Well done!!!

Loved that Stu. Stunning conditions. Love the one with the messy section and those orange tones. Final image is gorgeous too

Hi Stuart, pretty chilly but another grand day out. Thanks for sharing. Very sensible to know when to stop as nature has no respect for folk that are unprepared, so the safety tip alone is a good one to remember. Super images again. All the best.

Thanks Steve yeah it was fine getting out in the end as the tractors had been up and down the road a few times though it could have easily been a bit of a nightmare

Lovely images Stuart. It must be so tempting to just capture everything around you, so I admire your tenacity to resist and capture the scenes that most appeal to you. Great stuff

What beautiful conditions! Despite the original forecasts, we ended up getting nothing at all here which was rather disappointing. I live in hope that this winter will provide another episode, and I may have to drive somewhere to get to it. Awesome photos Stuart, and glad to see you erred on the side of caution when things started to close in.

Really enjoyed this video, I like the way you talk about composition as an aesthetic process and more than simply graphic design. The shot at 13:10 is indeed a beauty, made by the colour in the trees for me. Just a point about the two images at 9:38 & 9:52. I agree with you about the first one, that the single branch going out of frame is a distraction (almost a mistake) but in the second one most of the branches go out of frame and it feels much better as if it was intended. Thanks for the video.

    • @StuartMcGlennon
      @StuartMcGlennon  7 місяців тому +1

Thanks Keith much appreciated, everything you see is intentional ;-) I just didn't film the landscape version because of time though I've a tighter portrait one with the branches touching the frame edge on both sides also. The one I showed had the best amount of background softening.

Definitely jealous of those conditions Stuart. Lovely set of shots & that second to last shot (the close up one) was superb - combination of the subtle colours & the blurry snow flakes.. I bet it printed out beautifully...

I can't help feeling a little envious at the conditions you were shooting in, as what little snow I've had around my locations in recent times has generally fallen at night and has stopped by the time there was any daylight. Love the images, they're all great and your favourite is pretty spectacular I have to say!

    • @lphilpot01

Me, too. Here in the deep south US we get spotty, occasional light snow maybe once every four to five winters. It can get reasonably cold ...well, cool. For example, it was 12F (-11C) here the other night but that's historically on the low side. New trend? Dunno. But all we got was just enough sleet and freezing rain to make it somewhat treacherous to be out (given our understandable lack of winter precip response capabilities). Winter is usually either total grey suck or clear pale blue skies, either way with lots of dead stuff about.

Thanks Ian yeah the lack of snow these days can be a little frustrating, I was fortunate this week to be able to catch this as I’m currently on puppy sitting duties the days my partner is in the office, this was one of her work from home days so I nipped out.

a lovely set of images there Stuart and a good learning point there about awaiting to get the images back home to make a final determination and its a good feeling finding those little nuggets on the bigger screen. No snow here on the west coast of Scotland but might get the storm coming through this weekend so maybe a chance to make something out of the bad weather

Ooo, bonus video - I was expecting something from Assynt next. You had some great conditions there Stuart, we've had nothing like that on the opposite side of the country. Some great images and I'm torn between the first and last image taking second spot for me because your 'messy' image is my first. I think that the shapes, subtle colours and the falling snow capture make it for me. Thanks for the upload.

Great shots Stuart. Really miss the snow here in Aus - we’ve just had a 4 day run of 40+ here in Perth 🤪. Thankfully cooled down a little to around 30 so at least we can get out of the aircon and do things. Looking forward to Assynt, assuming you don’t get snowed in.
