    I like the color and the black and white. I would use them as prints in different ways. I do love the background of the black and white. Nice pics. Nice to have you back after the holidays.

    I liked both versions but the black and white did edge for me and the crop really made the main subject stand out more. Really looking forward to your book release Stuart and it's one of two I am planning to buy at the moment. Hope Assynt is a productive trip for you

    Love the shot Stuart, but for me the colour one wins every time, especially if I had to look at the image on my wall every day. I totally get your comments on the composition being better in the B&W image, but I prefer the colour one - sod the rules it's just a gorgeous image!

    Hi Stuart. I like the B&W version but my preference for a wall mounted print would be the colour. Reminds me of a James Popsys type of image 🙂 Happy New Year 😀

    Would have liked to see you crop the colour shot which I liked a little more with its muted tones. It was a look all around the picture which I found soothing. The black & white was about the sapling with the background not giving much at all. Have a great 2024 and have some fun with Mr Littlejohn.

      Cheers Iain I did try that though I kept finding the bright light in the right corner of the frame too distracting with that crop, it needs to be either in or out hence the colour version being the full width

    Agree with the black and white conversion and the crop buddy. Good luck with the book

    Hi Stuart, good video to start the year off. I much prefer the colour version of your image. I like the sapling front and centre in the colour version and behind that the colour version shows the texture on the hills due to the sunlight.

    Happy New Year Stuart, totally agree with you the black and white allows the tree to be the main element and a nice subtle background and reflections.

    Liked the B&W conversion - wondered whether a 1:1 crop would look good too

    Great video, Stuart. Interesting to see such high waters there! Love the two approaches to this view. I'll be back there some day!!! Happy New Year!

    I think what makes the B&W work is the crop has pushed the sapling off centre, whereas in the colour version it was slap bang in the middle. Works better for me slightly off :)

      Agree, I don’t mind central places subjects hence the first one though bright areas right on the frame edge with such a prominent subject like the sapling aren’t the best approach

    Great vid, Stuart! I really liked the colour image until I saw the cropped black and white one, which was amazing! I hope you had a productive time in Assynt and I hope you get some barmy conditions up in Lofoten once again.

    Happy New Year, Stuart! Manesty is such an amazing spot, love that side of the lake. I honestly prefer the colour version of the sappling shot, the soft morning light looks stunning!

    I think I prefer the colour image - it has a cool warmth to it that I find really appealing - maybe do the same 5x4 crop though as I agree with you that Walla Crag dominates the right hand edge. Lovely video Stuart and all the best on your travels. Best

    I prefer the colour image here. I couldn't help being drawn to the dark wood on the left in the B&W which I found distracting. Looking forward to the content from your travels this year.

    Excellent...love the submerged tree shot and altho' I was sceptical about the b/w it works well. Looking forward to the Assynt stuff...there myself again soon....and how not to include Suilven in each shot!!?? Your vids are a great source of comfort and inspiration for us Northern togs who struggle with weather but love our 'scapes.

    Maybe try cropping the colour one a bit like the B&W.

    I have to go for the colour version, I’ve pondered for a while but can’t identify why the B&W doesn’t quite work for me. Best wishes for 2024.

    You're the judge, but I prefer that color image of the sapling, just did not prefer the boxy feel of the B&W, and prefered the warm tones of the color.

    Happy New Year Stuart. I think the cropped B&W image is more balanced and works well. That said, I do like the colours in the original image but I find two thins a little distracting - the sapling (I know) and the orange 'thing' in the middle of the clump of trees. Thanks for the video and good luck with your forthcoming trips.

    • @StuartMcGlennon
      @StuartMcGlennon  6 місяців тому

      Cheers, HNY to you :-) not sure i'd agree with the main subject being distracting otherwise it just becomes another mundane vista/reflection shot lol I'm not sure which orange thing you mean it's just light reflected off the hillsides

    • @Quaker521
      @Quaker521 6 місяців тому

      @@StuartMcGlennon Yeah, I do get your point about the sapling - it's just me🙄. Looking again, I think that the orange thing might be a buoy. Cheers.
