I wish I saw your video before I tried to change tires on my Triban RC 120. I didn't pay any particular attention as to how I was mounting new tires on my rims because it was a non issue with all my previous bikes. But these rims were fighting me from begining to end and the tire ended up crooked like you showed. It took a bunch of dish soap and massaging but the end result were several satisfying loud pop and a straight tire. So thanks for the video, it was on point.

Excellent video and as far as I know - the only video. I am very aware that the tire needs truing as well because everytime I set up the tire, it is so evidently that oftentimes the tire does not look/feel true, right now I am trying to true the tire and thought to check online whether someone else realized that the tire needs truing and voila - I found this excellent video.

I had this problem recently when I bought new foldable tires for my old 26'er mountain bike. I think the tire beads were slightly smaller than then rim was meant for because at the flat spot the beads were actually down in the center valley of the rim. I didn't think to use soap water, I simply pumped the tube up until the bead finally pressed in at about 80 psi on both wheels. Then I deflated back to regular pressure and the bead stayed set.

My gravel tires are extremely hard to put on true. I have to use isopropyl alcohol which is slippery and dries quicker than soap and water. Then I fill up to a high psi (80 for these) and then drain the air back up to slightly higher, drain. I continue to do this while making sure the pressure isn't to much. Works for me but always nerve racking.

First of all, thanks by heart for such a wonderful explaination. It really helped me alot.
Can I use Nlgi3 grease( which is not too thin or too thick) on the corners of the tires to make it set? I had been having the same problem and I thought that it might be because of the bearing balls or probably because of the spokes. I changed the bearing but still the problem didn't solved. Then I realised that it's a problem related to the tires not fitted well on the rims. I deflated and inflated and the wobbling reduced. My tires are still not perfectly in sync with the rims yet because of which I am still having the problem. Thanks to you for explaining really well. Now I know what the root cause that have been and I am gonna solve it :) Just wanted to ask if it is ok to use a little bit of grease rather than soap if normally I am not able to make them sit in sync with rims?

    • @briangonz145

    • @bluceree7312
      @bluceree7312 4 роки тому +1

@@e3361 I have the same issue as Chris and the rim is not dent. I think I just messed up the tyre itself because on the first attempt after fitting the tube I inflated it to max without doing any massaging to ensure the seating is correct. this seems to have morphed the tyre and I know that because I can slide the tyre while on the rim and the same spot always caves inside the rim like Chris explained. Oh well, that was the cheap factory tyre which I wanted to replace since day one but waited till winter. They always seem to fit cheap tyres on factory bikes, cheeky bastards.

This happens a lot on the Kendra kwest cheaper tires ($16-25$) range. It is a manufacturing issue and it means the tire itself ( 2 half's) does not have a centered glue line ( middle section around tire. You can true your wheel with the tire and tube on but you have to true the spokes in 1/8 turns very slowly. Cheap tires you sometimes get this issue but can happen also on more expensive tires. This issue happens even if the tire is mounted properly.

This never happened to me on my road bikes and I had a lot, I mean a looooot of flats. Never “massaged” a tyre before . WTF :).
I think not knowing this is a problem with wider tyres (the widest I had was 30) I inflated it on my new hybrid to 4.5 bar immediately after placing in the new tube, and that seems to have ruined the cheap tyre because I cannot get it to fit even after messaging and even after I tried to sooth it with some champagne and strawberries!!!
Its good that I saw this video because now I will not repeat the same mistake with the new better tyres I just ordered. Hybrids are such drama queens and high maintenance, literally. Road are the best, actually single speed are.

    Who's watchin' this 2020?
(ps I might repeat some of the pts from the vid)
If you not sure if it's the problem of the rim or tire, get yourself a zip tie (as an indicator).
    ------------------------
Imagine it ain't the problem of your rim also the tire itself, then try to put extra soapy water, and pump extra air in it. Don't worry if it ain't sit properly at first, that happens when you don't have enough air pressure (15psi may not enough at this point)! Keep pumping! Usually, inflate to your avg #, if it ain't sit properly still, then try to inflate a lil bit more!

And those Schwalbe tires were actually not so bad to mount, because they had wired beads. The folding tires that bike came with... I do not know, how the guys at bike shop had got them straight on..
I just couldn't get them straight back, no matter what.. Increased pressure to max and, then bouncing against floor, hoping it will pop onto place.. Nothing.. Only after some hundreds, kilometers of ridding.. they had somewhat settled to almost correct place under load..

This is my first road ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!

Actually the fix is pretty simple
Pumb the tyre to its MAX pressure it will align itself immediately and then decrease the pressure where you please
    You are welcome

Doesn't work with my stubborn wtb tire.

So I bought schwalbe smart sam 2,1 tire and no problem like with that wtb ranger 2,0. It's a bit narrower than wtb, so I'm going to buy another 2.25 and put it on rear rim.

Now, I'm almost certain companies like Wiggle are selling faulty tires cheaper. I've just spent 2 f...g hrs trying to seat a tire properly I bought from them. Never again will I buy another product from them.

I've had more success to fit tube on rim first and then fit tyre.

Waste of time doing what you advise. All you have to do it pump to 65 psi and let it pop into place, then deflate to required pressure....simples.
