In this video I show you how to diagnose why the air ride compressor is not turning on and pumping up the air ride suspension on your truck. - Авто та транспорт
To this day your video is still helping people and kicks ass!
I APPRECIATE PEOPLE LIKE YOU who take the time to make these videos! You saved me money I didn't have and gave me quality time with my pop! God bless you:)
I have an Expedition-1998. Rear pump went out. So I determined that soon the front would go out and cause me to spend more money. So I purchased a conversion kit to go with springs and shocks for the front and back. ($419 for the kit). Now the vehicle sits stronger and slightly higher, giving me a smooth ride and a peace of mind.
Dude perfect...thanks for taking the time to provide a detailed video w/simple clear instructions!!! :)
This video was a great starting point for fixing the same problem on my 2010 Navi. Thank you for taking the time to post it!
ajparr what was the problem with your 2010 navi? I got a 09 navi with same problems
The rear wheel wells were only about an inch above the tires and when driving it, any bumps at all caused long oscillating bouncing in the rear end.
Good luck fixing your '09, but it should be fairly straightforward!
Where is the relay on your 2010 Navi? I have an 07 and i cant find that relay? Please help
This video very very helpful still..was my relay..saved me a ton of time and a super easy fix
you are awesome you have helped me fix my gator and rebuild the motor in my taurtus THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you, sir!! Had a "Check Susp" light on and the compressor wouldn't turn on.. Ended up being a loose plug into the relay.. Zip tied it up and we're good to go.. Thank you for your awesome and helpful videos!
Hi can you pls tell me where to find the plug to the relay that you zip tied?
very helpful fixed it for 157.00 changing out the relay control. mine was oxidized bad and cracked. tx for posting.
Do you have a expedition if you do I would look to ask you something do ford expeditions have the power to do a burnout
Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Fixed my 2001 easily!
Thank you for video...we'll try that and well keep in touch
That did the Trick thank you as this video confirms my diagnostic measures were proper
THANK YOU! My 97 Continental wouldn’t lift...I went to my local wreckers and got the relay from another Cont 7.95 all good now! Ford was $365and Lordco was $182......read too many about conversions where the car ride feels like a truck ride now having coil springs no thanks. Also the Cont in the wreckers I got the compressor and height sensors and Arnott air bags- sweet ride now!
December now back end won’t lift after all the switch outs....☹️
really great video man - thank you so much for sharing. going to try and diagnose my kids Navigator tomorrow thanks to you!
Sounds good let me know if you have any questions
Excelent Video and explanation!... Thanks!
Thank you for doing this video.
Is this system the same on panther chassis with air suspension cv, p71, town car, etc? All info seems to be about the SUV models
Can you do a video on air tube routing, common fail points, how to locate and repair air leaks? I’ve got a 2003 Navigator to repair. PS: Great Job on your videos (a small laser light helps identify parts in tight places ….)
Thank you I appreciate your videos
Question:
First, thank you for the video.
I have a 2010 navigator that the rear suspension drops intermittently. what are your thoughts on that.
It will drop while driving, but then once the vehicle has been turned off then back on, it lifts and is good for a day or so.
any advise is greatly apreciated.
Thanks it fixed my problem loose connection in the connector at the relay :-) like + sub
Thanks, Brian! The wife now thinks I'm a hero! LOL
FordTechMakuloco- most informative media on the net! reattached the pigtail to relay and jumped the fat wires- both failed. logic and as you stated its the pump, direct power test and voila its alive however only front bags inflated. rear bags hold air. havent heard the pump run normally. thinking its the relay and pigtail? thanks again
Thanks for your help. Ben Canfield
Great Video! Thanks for posting! I have a 2008 Expedition. My problem is the rear will sag like you show in your video however when I start the car and go in reverse or drive it will start to pump its self back up. This is random, in other words it can maintain its normal height for a couple days and other time it will sag every day. Any suggestions? Thank You in advance for your reply.
had this happen to me found out there was a o ring on the dryer that was going into the compressor was cracked, replaced it and now everything works great for the time being
Dude this video rocks
I need help understanding what to use for the power when I jump my sensor fordtechmakuloco you don't show what your wired to for power in the video when you power (jump) up the compressor?
finally got totally @*(&^ at it last night and tore it apart. the 03 eddie is different than what I could find online. figured out where the relay is and started testing, the first tee in line is leaking like crazy. going to start with that one and work my way to the back. on the eddies the relay is attached on the top front of the compressor, easy access to test. last year I replaced the drier thinking that was it. ford dealers are no help on this issue unless you want to spend boat loads of money. thanks and I will keep you updated. your video has gave me the most info. Thanks!
Great video.
Should air bags be replaced in pairs and is there a good aftermarket bag or is it best to use Ford bags
I have both an 06 & 07 Navigator. Would the air suspension pump from the 06 fit the 07 if I needed to swap it out ? Thanks !
Hello and thank you for your videos, quick question, I have replaced my bags and compressor (208k miles on original) however the compressor runs intermittently and drains the battery even while parked with no key, do you think this is a plating issue or do I have a very small leak somewhere?
I own a 2007 Lincoln Navigator Ultimate and my check air suspension light comes on now and then. Do you have any videos for that year and make to diagnose the issue?
99 Navi with the rear low. Getting no ground from control module. Anything to check for other than just replacing the module? Thanks
found some oem springs to swap out for the air spring. is it a direct swap. can I just change them out with out having to make a modification
Is the WPT392 pigtail you listed the correct connector for a 1998 Lincoln Continental Air Suspension relay? I would think that all Ford connectors for this part are the same because the Amazon link you have listed says the pigtail won't fit a 1998 Continental.
Thanks for this video
I have a 1998 Lincoln Navigator the compressor will not kick on but if i bypass it like you did in the video the compressor will work the second test you did with hooking a window motor up I also did that and that worked but the very last test did not work I could not get my test light to light up what would be the cause the test light is good. I checked first..
I have a 2000 Limited AWD V8 5.0 -- The pump seems to work as it's coming on all the time, and you can see the back lifting... there doesn't seem like too much noticeable sag. How would I check for leaks? Would you recommend converting from air to gas to just bypass the system? As of recently driving my vehicle feels like I'm in a boat.
Hey FordTech. Great videos. I was wondering if you knew about when the compressor comes on to often. I have a Lincoln Navigator 01 that has the rear height sensor @2.4 volts and the front at about 3 volts. Both sensors seem ok when I move them up/down the scan tool voltage goes up/down. When the compressor comes on the front gate/fill solenoids come on usually. Is the the front height sensor voltage too high? If the car sits it doesn't drop after a couple hours
what scanning software/hardware are you using? 2005 navigator but i cannot get any of my scanners to view voltage to each or any sensor
On the 07 expedition it is easy access by removing the passenger side head light everything is right under it
We have this problem on our 1998 Navigator. Unplugging the pigtail and plugging it back in selectively kicks the compressor back in and pumps up the back end. Sometimes it works most times it doesn’t. I tested all circuits on the pigtail and they checkout. Is this just a relay problem or should I just replace both relay and pigtail?
On your fourth wire light tester at minutes 6:48 seconds where are you running your power wire?
I NEED to know what is that sound on 6:19 to 6:21 where like the back makes a sound... like lowering or leaking? Because everytime I turn off my 2000 Expedition and close the doors it will make that sound... Thank you.
also the 4x4 solenoid thank you
Any ideas on an equus that sometimes will sink on the rear drivers side?
I have 2000 navigator and have replaced both bags, compressor, relay and pigtail. only right rear does not raise up. Would it be the solenoid on that side?
I own a 2007 Expedition. Recently the rear air suspension loses air. A few days later there is a loud grinding noise in the engine compartment and some fluid leaking right near the front differential gear. I checked and replaced both the short shafts on front end and the transmission. Didn't check the air pump nor dryer. Could the pump be leaking the fluid as well? Front air suspension maintains it's pressure.
2010 Lincoln Navigator Air Ride Suspension Control Module Replacement: system has no air leaks, compressor comes on and brings vehicle up to correct ride height. however system then vents and currently is squatting at the rear. How involved is it to access the module?
It's amazing does thought it was a good idea to put that relay and pigtail right where the tire is going to douse it with water and salt 😬
FordTechMakuloco, I have a '00 that I thought had sagging rears. I followed your steps and tested the connector, and the compressor kicked on. I don't have the proper equipment to test the two smaller wires, but I think the relay works because when I turn the truck off, I can hear clicking that sounds like the relay working. I started looking at the height sensors, it looks like the rear one is extended, but the funny thing is that the rear bags are full to the max. What do you think I should check next?
James Brewster The relay does not click it is solid state and is likely your concern still.
I have a 2003 Navigator I think the air bag on the driver side back will not pump up but the other side pumps up do I only have to replace the side that is bad or do I have to replace the right and left bags.
having a similar issue with a 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition..lines replaced, bag holds air, but left side wont raise. will work one day and the next it wont. my mechanic replaced the lines when they rotted..any suggestions? right side is fine
I have a 2011 Expedition, rear end all the way down and the pump isn't turning on. Will these tests work for my year model?
Could you tell me what shock absorbers and springs the truck has, why do I want to change the suspension? Ami truck is a Ford Expedition 1999 5.4 ediee bawer
So the last small wire you test on the relay. If I jump the blue/pink (constant power) to the last wire black/yellow? and don’t get any light on my test light, what would be my problem?
My relay under the head light on the passengers side just had a loose connection! We also discovered my car had been in a flood something carfax didn't show I know now what to look for red clay is what we found on the steering column -Jackie
We jumped the 2 wires on the pig tale and the pump came on but the car did not go up. With out jumping the lines, the pump does not come on. I replaced the relay and no change.
2 questions:
Should the car go have gone up when we jumped the lines?
What do I check next?
+CENTURION24 The system is faulted therefore the module would never turn on the rear air spring solenoids to fill. You jumped the two wires but did you check all the other inputs?
I have a 1997 Ford Expedition and the back right side is sagging. The compressor kicks on and pumps it back up. So does that mean that my bag has a leak in it. If so how hard is it to install the conversion kit on my Expedition?? Thanks
I have a 2001 Crown Vic with Air Ride in the rear only. The air pump comes on but the rear does not rise to the proper height. Any tips on where I should start?
05 exp eddie bauer. When I turn on the fan or move electric seat the check suspension light comes and won't kick on compressor while I'm driving and thinks the trucks off and sqauts down. When I don't have fan or high usage of electronics it doesn't happen. Is this a relay or pigtail issue why it's shorting out ? Also sometimes my windows open and close fast. Sometimes there super slow. Also cd player skips a bit to like it's shorting out
hi i have a 2003 grand marquis i changed the pump fuses are good relay is good still not working. does my car have that type of hidden relay or is that just the trucks thanks
my 2002 lincoln navigator has an issue I can't seem to fix. I have replaced the compressor and the relay. The pump comes on for a few minutes but the rear does not lift up. I cant seem to find any leakes.
What color is the thin wire next to the thin green wire. Can’t tell the color of it in the video.
Are the thin wires specific to number 3 and 4 on the harness or if the green wire is hooked up to 4, will that matter?
I have an issue with my 98 ford expedition. Both air bags went out recently and we ordered and installed new ones. The driver side has aired up fine but the passenger side only airs up some. It was taken off and put back on to no change. Ive been bounced and wobbled enough, What could this be?
I have a 2001 navigator yesterday from a long trip we stop on a gas station and we hear and felt like an explosion and when we got home the rear suspension is super low, the compressor still working, any idea what happen?
I have a 1999 Ford Expedition 4WD with four corner leveling.
My rear is sagging when parked AND leaning hard to the right when running. What should I look for?
David Feinberg Leaking air bags from cracks in the bag.
@@FordTechMakuloco great video! I have a cuestión, would podible put a lift kit plus the stock air suspension?
Thank you !
I have a 2000 Expedition the relay and springs were replaced 4 years ago by ford service. I did the test you suggested by disconnect and reconnect and the compressor worked. Thank you for this video. I replaced just the relay only but then the sag happened again. So does that mean the pigtail needs to be replaced like you mentioned? How is this pigtail replaced?
+Darlene Casper Most likely yes it does easy test is to unplug and plug it back in and retest if it work now you know.
+FordTechMakuloco... I have a 2003 Navigator and all 4 bags are down. I replaced the right front blown airbag. The compressor is activating and air is coming through the lines to all the bags. I can hear all 4 air bag solenoids clicking on but it still isn't raising. Any ideas of what else it could be? I figured that changing the bags on the front as well as the o-rings on the back would have fixed the problem. still nothing. Any ideas?
I have an 02 Lincoln continental I ran it through a carwash and a few hours later my rear-end dropped what happened and how do I fix this
HI GRETA VIDEO IT DID HELP ,JUST WONDERING WHEN CONNECTED TO A TRAILER DO I RUN IT WITH THE SWITCH ON OR OFF.
On it will compensate for the trailer weight.
THANKS
hey I have a 98 navigator 4x4 my truck leans side ways on driver side I know I have a bad air bag on the back driver side but the whole truck leans not to bad on front but could it be Bc of the bad air bag in the back
Mines too high... Any suggestions
A lot of times you can put a fuse as a jumper the fit perfect when jumping a fuel pump module
my suspension I can hear the motor come on but the ride stays dropped .
it comes on for 20, 30 seconds but it never lifts.
this happens after tow dolling a car went over a bump a little to fast and when I got to my destination it was low
Hello good morning, I have a 98 lincoln navigator , with the rear sit low , the front came up ok, this all start since I install the brake light switch wrong, help me I change the relay same thing. Any fuse link to the rear thanks
my pump/compressor runs a lot but nothing seems to be happening, any ideas where to start?
I jumped the compressor and it turns on but jumper wire gets very hot. I tested the other two wires with a multimeter and get about 12 volts. Compressor will still not automatically activate. Both height sensors look OK. What next?
Forgot to mention. I disconnected the battery to clear the check suspension light and still no change.
Edit: replaced relay with one from a junkyard and all is well.
Also, I bought the truck a month ago and the rear is always riding at max height giving the truck a forward rake.
I have a 2010 expedition and I'm having problems with my check air compressor keeps coming on and the back of my vehicle is basically to the ground. When you drive you can fill every bump, rock, everything you ride on. What should I do. Plus I'm 8 most pregnant and it's killing me
So I did this and the last wire did not work, the control module ground wire... can I splice that and re ground it somewhere else or does it ground through the module? What's my options?
2007 Expedition EL- Recently failed to toggle off the Air Suspension when towing a trailer and later when using a Hitch Rack (heavily loaded)...I get an error every time when the car starts that the Air Suspension is OFF, It does not give me the option on the Message Center to toggle it back to ON..Any thought? I have not noticed any sagging or handling issues.
+David Champion Follow my pcm reset video and see if full operation comes back.
Where is that relay located???
I have the splash Shield off and the headlight off can’t find the relay!!!
Thank you again. But I remain confused to your response. If I replaced just the relay, then a week later the sag happened again. I unplugged and replugged the new one and it worked. How do I know it is not going to sag again.....til I wait again. So your answer is to replace the pigtail also? And how is the pigtail replaced?
+Darlene Casper Next time it happens where the rear is sagging and the pump is not coming on like usual disconnect and reconnect the relay pigtail, if it now comes to life and work you know you need to replace the pigtail.
I have a 2000 4wd navigator both sides are low but the passenger side is lower.low enuff where I cant put my hand on top off the tire.the pump turns on pumps for a little bit then turns off.this is just in the rear
I have a 2000 Lincoln and its sagging in the back, the air compressor will not come on and we checked the leveling sensor in the back. What can it be cause its clicking but won't air up?
Where is the relay for the air compressor on a 2012 ford expedition or Lincoln navigator? Can't find it anywhere or on the internet
My friend has a 2005 Expedition, the air ride holds air over night, sometimes loses air periodically and starts doing the bounce.
I'm trying to help him.
Any idea what it could be?
Thanks for the help!
How about cleaning the contacts on the Connectors and putting dialectic grease on them if they’re not too bad that should work
I recently bought a 2000 lincoln navigator, so I'm pretty much unused to the air ride system and its problems. A few days ago the rear bags just stayed low, I didn't notice the air pump/compressor functioning before but everything was ok, 1st question, when is the air compressor supposed to turn on? at the very first moment you turn on the ignition? Because the only time I can listen to the compressor work (I think) is when truck is on Drive, but still air springs are not being inflated, so it is pretty difficult to check for leaks on 'em.
Ok so it sat for awhile maybe overnight and you went to drive the truck and the back end was to the ground as in the video? Does it ever pump back up? If are really low they should pump back up with truck idling in park. Other wise they wont start to adjust till you put it in drive. Does the air compressor at least run when in drive but maybe not pump up the rear? Have you check the rear linkage for the height sensor they like to pop off on those models. I shown and example of the sensor at the end of the video.
Hello, I have a 1999 Continental with Air Suspension in the rear only. The rear is flat on both sides and the pump will not turn on. I thought it was the ride height sensor so I replaced with no fix. I ran the tests on the plug in this video assuming it was pretty similar to the Expedition and all of them passed except the last one. Another thing I noticed is when I jump the hot to the ground and let the pump run for 3 minutes it would not lift the car. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
+MaxDiff328 In general since the module found a fault in controlling the solid state relay it is not commanding the pump on so it never opens the rear solenoids. I do it manually with the scan tool. What you can do is fake a connection on the low current ground control from the module at the relay this way it powers the test light and thinks everything is ok then it will open the rear solenoids and then you jumper the relay pigtail as before to get the pump to come on and watch it rise.
MaxDiff328 ni mi
What scan tool will allow me to read the sensor voltage. none of what i have even looks at air suspension (2005 navigator)
I switched to tradional spring and shocks from air suspension. Do you know of a way to stop the check air suspension light in the info dash center? I don't think I left the ride height sensors on otherwise I could just tie them up and bag them. I read about cutting one wire to fool the computer, but it was on a lincoln mk6.
Well it depends on the year! I personally know that it is done via the media control center on the 2008 Navigator!
Hey did U ever figure it out I got a 05 n it’s converted but the dam beep from the alert is killin me did u find out how to get rid of it?
I got a quick question.. The suspension runs, but one side is too high whilst the other side is just below level.. WTH do I do with this :D Please help me help this SUV that is leaning
Thank you in advance
i have ford expedition 2000 eddie bauer and yesterday i heard a noise like air leaking out of a tire and my rear dropped. so, now the rear will not raise. does that mean the complete rear suspension and struts have to be replaced.
+Earnestine Hinton Likely a bag failed if its that bad.
+Earnestine Hinton I didn't think an Expedition with pump and air bags have struts because essentially aren't the air bags functioning like the struts? I just bought a 1997 Eddie Bauer Expedition with rear suspension issues but I haven't crawled under to take a look yet.
+Jarod Morris it was the lines to the bags were bad
Hello everyone. Can some one please tell me if my 1999 expedition 4x4 has the same air springs front and back??? Or are the front ones different? Thanks people....
I had a local mechanic say they replaced my shocks and struts but now it's worse. They are saying the only thing they know to do now is convert over to spring shocks and I just don't understand why they can't fix it like it's supposed to be fixed. I wish I understood everything u are talking about. I'd fix it myself
Great video. Question, ii have a 99 navigator here. The pump runs when jumped the middle small wire works as ground. The end little wire doesn't ground. Cold this be bad connection or would this mean a larger problem.
Is the rear height sensor and linkage connected up and not fallen off? If so I would have it looked at with a scan tool so they can check the height sensor voltages etc to see why it is not commanding it on.
FordTechMakuloco currently both sensors are hooked up and appear to work.
I don't get a ground reading when checking the controller. How would I fix that?
Buenas yo tengo una Lincoln navegator 2001 4x4 y tiene ese mismo problema como me puedes ayudar un poco mejor gracias
So question for you on this system. The pump on my vehicle works ('97 Expedition). Previous owner cut the wires at the relay so connector is junk. Would it be possible to use some sort of solenoid to effectively replace this relay? I'm thinking something like the starter solenoid from a Japanese motorcycle that has to be externally grounded to activate.............. Just a thought. I might try it, if it doesn't work I'll just get F150 coil springs .......................
Thanks for the video. It was really easy to follow. I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 2000 Navigator and the back end is down. I did all of the troubleshooting you showed. Everything was good. I even saw the front end rise when I used a jumper wire on the pigtail for the relay. I replaced the relay but the compressor won't run. I used a scan tool (actron CP9135 OBDII Auto Scanner) and got a "pass" message. Any suggestions?
