The only saving grace with Black Christmas was my daughter, son in-law and I were the only ones in the theater watching this so we were able to outwardly vocalize our displeasure with what was unfolding in front of us.

The Lighthouse was my favourite film of last year, but I respect your opinion on it, and can understand why you didn't like it. It's definitely not a film for everyone, and that's fine! I really enjoyed the video, can't wait to see what you talk about next.
I think Robert Eggers' movies and Jordan Peele's movies are better than Ari Aster's films. Cause Ari Aster gets a little too pretentious at times

As an Australian seeing the nightingale was great it illustrates the struggles of early Irish settlers and the aboriginal community at the time and the relationship and bond the two main characters form I think it was great. But yes that first scene was very hard to watch and I did want the ending to be a bit more brutal in her revenge. But I guess humiliating him in front of his officers I guess was enough for her
I see where you're coming from with the Lighthouse, but as an actor I always look at performances, but Dafoe and Pattinson were brilliant. And I love artsy films in general. But I respect your opinion!
I agree with you on Dumbo. However, in my opinion I thought it accomplished a lot more than Aladdin and ugh, The Lion King.
I don't believe anyone has given Black Christmas 2019 a positive review.

With how freaky the cats in that looked you'd think Cats was a horror film instead of a musical. And Mr "starts every song by saying his own name" Jason Derulo defending it just because he was in it saying its critics don't know what they're talking about was pathetic. I thought to myself "The film was shit and bombed at the box office mate. Accept it instead of pretending it was great just because you were in it."

The Fanatic was hilarious! I think it was almost as laughably bad as The Room - but, it didn't reach the level of godly absurdity that The Room did. It got somewhat close though! What stuns me is that they thought The Fanatic was a good idea and it actually received the nod and the cash to be made at all!!

Gave away the whole plot of the film before it ever came out too. I refuse to consider the 2019 film a 2nd remake of the 1974 film. It's clearly a different film that had its name changed to cash in on the Black Christmas title.

Just walked out if the theatre today, I'm disappointed but not angry, and it's mostly because I'm just a fan in general of this premise that I'll see any new take somebody has on it

Black Christmas 2019 is in the bottom 3 films of all time, as far as I'm concerned. It's easily the worst film I've ever seen in a cinema. I can't think of a redeeming quality to it.

Dude, Tim burton is great director, he’s made so many great films.
He's overrated af.
I think he’s moderately good, but his best work was in the 80s in 90s. After that ass kicking that was Planet of the Apes, he only made 2 good movies (Big Fish and Sweeney Todd).
I can't stand him. Ed Wood is the only film of his I like.
I have a love/hate relationship with Tim Burton. I haven't watched one of his films in a very long time, probably because they try TOO hard to be clever, but they are very creative and gorgeous to watch.

@@mwheeler138 too often people tend to comfound what they dislike to something that is objectively bad. I have had films that I absolutely hated (Wild at Heart, Leaving Las Vegas) but I knew they were good movies. I guess his title was clickbait-y. Since he thought it was well made. So in short he don't really think the Nightgale was really one of the worst movies
One thing I forgot to mention when you brought up the Conjuring Universe, James Wan while a great director has been another to feel like a one trick pony. Long before La Llorona there has been tons of supernatural horror films kind of like that one and Wan's others films in the Conjuring universe.
I remember a Facebook post about the Craven family taking pitches for a new Nightmare film and some suggested James Wan. Well him and other familiar directors because they were afraid to have an unknown give it a shot. I was thinking well isn't that how it all started and we have some of the greatest films of all time still being praised for over 40 years because of just that lol?
I just think if James Wan did a Nightmare film you essentially would just have another Conjuring film with Freddy in it.

The Lighthouse is definitely not for everyone. I definitely understand why you wouldn’t like it. It’s really strange but it worked for me oddly. I totally don’t blame you for not liking the Lighthouse at all.

Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow wasn't style over substance. I loved it. It is a tribute to Hammer horror.

The Lighthouse was a good movie. It's just you need those metaphors to understand it.
First off it isn't a horror movie, but a gothic thriller.
SPOILERS!!!
The whole movie takes place in the afterlife. The film starts with the two characters on a ship, which represents crossing the river Styx into the afterlife. Defoe is Lucifer/devil blocking the other character from getting into heaven, The Lighthouse. When Defoe jerks it to the light in the lighthouse that him yearning to be return to heaven, but no being able to. The part where Pattinson kills Defoe represents the Greek story of how a king tricked Hades to return from the afterlife. When Pattinson looked into the light he was being judged, which is why he screamed and fell down the stairs. The only shot in the movie that takes place in the real world is the last shot.
The only thing I haven't figured out was the mermaid outside of them luring sailors to their death. That could be how Pattinson's character actually died.
I thought it was psychological
From 15:40 -16:00, I don't think I've said 'What?!' that many times during a plot synopsis, which must say a lot about The Lighthouse.
Kinda sounds like the lighthouse should be the weirdest movie on this list.

With the exception of Hellboy and the Fanatic I missed these and the two I did see I totally agree. As for the 8 I didn't see with the exception of the Lighthouse (which maybe I will and maybe I won't) I thank my lucky stars that I had people like you to steer me away. 12:24 Dumbo and Pinocchio were 2 of the animated Disney films that as a kid I never liked. All these live actions versions suck to me because they're just Disney making cash grabs by making the exact same film again but in live action to get more money out of a pre existing film.

Greta and The Nightangle were pretty good imho. Yes Nightangle is a hard watch but its done well and Greta is a pretty decent thriller. I have been wanting to watch Serenity but just could not find the opportunity.

No surprise on your #1 pick - probably a lot of horror fans' choice, I would guess, given the unanimity of opinion in your comments section. Unfortunately too many critics are simply guided by a film's subject matter or social/political point of view (the New York Times actually gave it a favorable review!) rather than whether or not it made its points well or the film succeeded in any other way.

Great list I personally love Dumbo and The Lighthouse but I can understand why you didn't. I absolutely loved The Fanatic it's one of my favorites of the year idk what it is I just loved it so much I know I'm in the minority though.

i agree about the lighthouse...it did nothing for me...never watching again....good acting but not for me
when i saw nightingale on your list, i was appalled, but then i listened to your explanation, and i agree, we may be on different levels on the ranking of this movie, but this movie is brutallllll, and while i gave it an 8/10, i agree in the sense that i will NEVER watch this again
And that's the tricky part with the word "Worst" is that I acknowledge the movie is very well made while being one of my least favorite movie experiences all year.
@@CodyLeachYT absolutely, and the more you bring it up, the more i agree with the villains not getting the justice they deserved, the only one in my opinion that got it was the one that killed the baby, which was surprisingly the most tame thing done in that scene. i honestly compared it to a more brutal version of THE REVENANT. but that movie had a better pay off

Now Greta I did enjoy. Though I feel an effective movie should feel somewhat realistic enough to pull you into the experience of the characters and the atmosphere of the film itself you have to remember it's fiction it's fantasy. It's art and in art you're going to sometimes have those artistic and surreal moments in some films. If you really think about it if a movie was too realistic it would likely be boring as hell lol.

I actually consider it to be the best LA Disney remake we've had this year.
Oddly, enough. I had enjoyed the new Hellboy movie. . .so, Cody, I had enjoyed Black X-Mas movie. Should I avoid Black Christmas all together??

The only thing worse than the film itself was Elizabeth Banks's reaction to its failure blaming it being a bad film on men and saying people who don't like it are sexist.
Some of these movies are 2018 releases. Also the list doesn't have Dark Phoenix, Men In Black International, Charlie's Angels, and Bombshell.
My top 3 worst movies of the year are:
3)The Lion King(was nothing new brought to it,same movie only"live action")
2)Escape Room(it was beyond the typical horror movie cliches)
1)Black Christmas(was beyond bad)
I can kinda see where fans would find a movie like La Llorona bland. I enjoyed it and as a long time horror fan thar has watch hundreds upon hundreds of horror films and films of all genres I can tell you that you'll tend to see many movies that have the same plot same storylines, same feel. I mean after decades of filmmaking you only can do so much. And I don't a lot people realize that as well as the next thing I'm about to say on movies being "scary".
So think of it like this when you're a kid and you first learn of Santa Claus you're excited and you believe it's real being all caught up in the magic. As you grow older you come to learn it's not real and though you may still enjoy it, it doesn't have the same feel the same effect as it did when you were a kid. You just enjoy the holiday and love it for what it is and all the great memories you had growing up.
So unless you are just a person that's afraid of things or get triggered by some traumatic experience if you're an adult especially a horror fan that tends to watch a lot of horror movies it's rather pointless to look for a horror flick to actually frighten you.
I'm disappointed you didn't like The Lighthouse. I didn't love it but in an industry that is so oversaturated with sequels, remakes and bad cgi, I enjoyed how strange and different its concept was, and I'll watch Willem Dafoe in anything.
I saw it in theaters and then again on Amazon Prime. I didn't really understand it but I very much enjoyed it.
Telling someone "they just dont get it" because theu didnt like a movie can be pretty dismissive but when it comes to the Lighthouse, and essentially, the Nightingale, yeah, it sounds like you didnt get it. Like hoping the Nightingale is some sort straight forward cathartic revenge tail is pretty incredible. Ive noticed when people take your point of view on movies like this they generally dont like themes, metaphor, drama & context when it comee to horror movies.

Nightingale was a tough watch, but it was a good movie IMO. I get where you are coming from though. I also never want to watch it again. ( It took me two viewing to love Midsommar for what it is worth )
The other thing about The Lighthouse is that Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson's characters are going crazy because of the seclusion they have being stuck on the island with only each other and getting drunk from drinking too much liquor and Lighthouse fuel. The liquor and Lighthouse fuel is why Robert is hallucinating when he sees the mermaid and some of the other stuff that maybe not real in the movie.

The Nightingale is based on a young Irish convict woman living in 1825 colonial era Van Diemen's land (aka Tasmania) who goes on a revenge mission to kill the British officer who raped her and murdered her family and along the way she meets an Aboriginal man who helps her track down the British soldiers. It's about sexual and racial brutality in 19th century Tasmania
