Hello Hot Hippo, If your car was built in the UK and you have not changed the lights or adjusted them to conform with the laws on your road, then you should be 100% fine to drive it in the UK. Have a safe trip next year. One love DJ Blink-Blink
Cheers for uploading this. I always crossed on ferry so this was useful as I plan to cross by train next time. Just one question as I noticed on both your train crossing videos you mention care to not curb the alloys when driving from platform into train. Why is that? Is there any high bump when stepping onto the train? Sorry, it's not very clear in the video.
Thank you for the feedback about the video and I'm glad you found it helpful. Crossing by train is faster and more convenient to be honest which is why I loveeeee it lolzzz. As per your question about the possibility of kerbing your alloy wheels when driving into the train, yes this can happen (and it does happen more than you realize) cos there are some massive and "devilish" edges that are just out to take out your alloy wheels. You would see them at the door entrance for the train and also some areas within the train (just keep an eye out for them). Hopefully your alloy wheels would "escape" them 😂 Cheers, DJ Blink-Blink Instagram:instagram.com/djblinkblink/

Well, I did it ... just got back to France. Folkestone (today) was far less congested than France. Why does it take far less time in the tunnel via the Shuttle than by Eurostar. I took the latter MANY times and it always took 30 minutes. The "shuttle" takes 18 minutes.

Hello Lubna, You can remain in your car till the end of your journey unless they select your car for a random check by the officials as shown here ua-cam.com/video/-UIkqN88kPs/v-deo.html That would be when you would be expected to alight from your vehicle or when they would check inside your car.
Hello Renato. Thanks for the feedback about my video. When I used the Eurotunnel, I gave a 2hr time window. Basically if I was expected to board by 2pm, I targeted to get there 12pm. This would ensure I don't get caught out with delays on the motorway or even at the Eurotunnel passport control. It is better to get there early cos you have to go through a few checks before you finally board the train.
@@DjBlinkBlink Why the passport control delay for European citizens, don't they have wave through for EU citizens and another lane for other non european nationals as they do at the airport, i think that would ease congestion a lot.
@@kingloui111 remember the passport control here is congested because there are thousands of cars driving through with about 5 passengers in each car. In my opinion, having a different lane for EU citizens and non EU citizens would just cause more bottleneck. Who knows, I may be wrong 🤷🏾♂️😎

The below was copied directly from Eurostar website: "Check-in for Eurostar closes strictly 30 minutes before departure. You must be present at the station at least 45 minutes before departure in order to complete the check-in process and pass through customs smoothly". That about 1hr 30mins wait also for the Eurostar excluding the time to get there via the underground and also to transport yourself from the terminus in Paris to your hotel. Seems a lot of time also or what do you think?
3:53 Not so fast there (DJ 2x Blink). Now that you're heading home,, removing those headlights adaptor stickers, you (hopefully) affixed beforehand, would be a good idea. Don't want to dazzle any oncoming drivers, if you're driving at night and more importantly risking adding points on your licence.
Wow... seems like a lot of human workers along the way, so inefficient... and lots of hassle to cross the border, compared to simple border crossing between Canada and "the states.' Also, seems a lot of English signs on the French side, but I saw another video from the UK side that had English signs only, no French.. what's up with that?
Hello Andrew. There were a lot of staff along the way from Calais to reduce congestion (the staff were directing all the cars via a longer route before sending them back to the border entrance. This reduced the flow of cars towards the border and reduced congestion massively). As per the number of French signs on the UK side, there were a lot when I went through. Take a look at this video I made last year to see what I recorded via my dashcam ua-cam.com/video/-UIkqN88kPs/v-deo.html Cheers mate, DJ Blink-Blink
@@DjBlinkBlink I see... still seems a lot of hassles/procedures/processes to get between the two... I guess I'm spoiled for the borders in North America... just one checkpoint to go thru... Yeah its a pain. I really wish the eurotunnel would have done in a way where you can just drive through rather than messing about with trains. All the border and customs hassle is literally just from the UK to the mainland tho. Because once you're on the main continent, you can cross between most European countries with no passport or customs checks what so ever. (pretty much the same as you'd cross state lines in the U.S)
That would have been brilliant if we could just drive through the tunnel and cross between the UK and France just like in the states and within Europe itself. Phew, who knows, maybe this may happen in about 50 years in future (hopefully).
@@DjBlinkBlink yeah I agree. If a car accident happened causing a fire it could collapse the whole tunnel and flood with water. Cars are gasoline powered unlike trains. Not that a train couldn't catch on fire it's just less likely

@@leoipek8143 fires on trains are rare but if it does happen, there are emergency processes in place to combat this (bringing the train to a stand at the shafts, turning off the air-conditioning system, dropping the pans, and then initiating an emergency evacuating). Very informative video! I am planning to visit UK next year. What's with the headlight stickers, am I obliged to put them on? My 2002 Land Rover was built in the UK, where can I find out if it needs these stickers?
Hello Hot Hippo,
If your car was built in the UK and you have not changed the lights or adjusted them to conform with the laws on your road, then you should be 100% fine to drive it in the UK.

Hopefully your alloy wheels would "escape" them 😂

Question. Doing this for first time next week ... what happens if a car gets stuck in the train. Are there "emergency exits" on each train car?
Yes there are emergency exits (see instructions below)
In the event of an emergency
If an incident occurs in your carriage:
An alarm will sound
Evacuate all passengers from your coach.
Follow instructions of staff on board. Illuminated arrows will direct your passengers either:
Towards the adjacent carriages, or
Towards the service tunnel in order to board another shuttle.
If necessary, ask staff on board for wheelchairs to be provided.

Well, I did it ... just got back to France. Folkestone (today) was far less congested than France.
Why does it take far less time in the tunnel via the Shuttle than by Eurostar.

Im not from the UK, but is the eurotuunel like an underwater tunnel?
Yes. Part of the tunnel is underwater. The Channel Tunnel is the longest undersea tunnel in the world: its section under the sea is 38km long. It is actually composed of three tunnels, each 50km long, bored at an average 40m below the sea bed. They link Folkestone (Kent) to Coquelles (Pas-de-Calais).

Also, seems a lot of English signs on the French side, but I saw another video from the UK side that had English signs only, no French.. what's up with that?
Hello Andrew. There were a lot of staff along the way from Calais to reduce congestion (the staff were directing all the cars via a longer route before sending them back to the border entrance. This reduced the flow of cars towards the border and reduced congestion massively). As per the number of French signs on the UK side, there were a lot when I went through.
I am disappointed. I thought it was just a tunnel you could drive your car through. Having to put it on a train is underwhelming.
The tunnel is under the sea. That would be very dangerous and risky to allow cars to drive through at that depth below sea level.
@@DjBlinkBlink yeah I agree. If a car accident happened causing a fire it could collapse the whole tunnel and flood with water. Cars are gasoline powered unlike trains. Not that a train couldn't catch on fire it's just less likely
