It might look ridiculous when there is no traffic but when it is heaving with hundreds of vehicles you will be glad of the space because it helps to ease the congestion and contributes to keeping the traffic moving. Just make sure you are in the correct lane and it’s easy.
Would be nice if there could be a shortcut route that can be opened during low-traffic times, similar to how they manage long lines at amusement parks.
It takes FOREVER from Paris - 3 hour drive ... then 90 minutes to London. Done it many times but it's ANNOYING when the M20 is almost always under construction. England need to fix their f--------g motorways once and for all.
it seams silly when it's no traffic but in peak of traffic, it's done to take all the waiting lines out the roads of the area and keep the regional traffic fluide.
I agree, I used to go to the shop, use the toilet, then it was a quick drive to the train. I always used to think how quick and efficient the system was.
Thanks for uploading, really appreciate the time and effort you took to share the details in the journey. This will help people like myself who are thinking about driving to Disneyland Paris.
Have been using Le Shuttle since it first opened, I have had 200+crossings the French terminal is way better than Folkstone but the road layout is a lot different from how it used to be but it's easy enough to navigate, just make sure you are in the correct lane for type of vehicle you are using and go when your letter is displayed on the departure board.

It’s a cinch. It takes up so much space because the trains demand hectares on infrastructure due to nature of running a railway. So much quicker - usually - than the ferry.
When they announced with was a car train back in the 90s, I could not have been more disappointed. I wanted to be able to drive from places like Johannesburg, Chennai, Bangkok and Tokyo to Glasgow non-stop, but NOPE, gotta take a train. Screw that. #AmphibiousCarsAreTheFuture #DrivingFronNewYorkCityToLondon #InternationalHighwaySystem
In Calais it's a big crap, a labyrinth to reach the train platform, . I wonder how many drivers were lost in this jungle and missed their train. Only french people are able to turn a simple thing into an intricable one.
Idiot comment !! there's a labyrinth because it's designed to receive hundreds of cars each 10 minutes. this video shows a very low traffic in winter. You can't imagine the number of cars during summer or on fridays.
It's so long‐winded and complicated even to get to the train that it's no wonder that most people coming to the UK do so by paddling themselves across the Channel in rubber dinghies.
would love the see a drone view of the Calais side..lol . not sure if it's a French creativity thing, but in Montreal Quebec ,major roadway projects seem to be designed with an "artistic" flair instead of a " utilitarian" one..much like this video seems to equally demonstrate..
There is a big difference between the terminals on the French and English side. Fresh and nice on the French side. The English side doesn't seem to be maintained at all.
by plane, check-in takes forever, plus you have to organize yourself to go to the airport without your car (airports which are outside of cities unlike train stations), and statistically planes are later than trains, for example, it is much more common to have to stay in a hotel because the plane is late.
What is this? The Calais-Eurotunnel Grand Prix? Makes it feel like if it were possible, you could possibly drive across the English Channel quicker. Still a grand feat of engineering!
Who designed this ridiculous entry way ? Why would they make this such a complicated drive? Someone must have made a lot of money designing and building this monstrosity. 😮
We did this last year, we are going to do it again today! In roughly 20 minutes from writing this, we are going to head to here to go to France for Disneyland. Edit (15 minutes left) from French side it was really windy, the lanes were packed and it took 2 hours from our departure time until we left, lol

When the tunnel was planned: Someone: "Let's put the cars on trains, that will save a lot of time and fuel if they don't have to drive all the way!" Fuel company: "For sure! 😂😂😂"
The tunnel isn't just used by the car shuttles, freight and passenger trains use it as well. Letting cars drive across on their own would have required digging two more tunnels. And another major reason is safety, you really don't want a car crash deep in a tunnel almost 20 kilometers from the nearest exit.
Lol. Looks like a videogame. If you are able to reach the train you advance to next level
exact!
Is there a passage section down stairs? Or do you boil in your car for a couple hours
@@kreuner11There is another car section down stairs. You boil in your car during 35-40 minutes.
And if you decide to take a nap during the transport, it kinda feels like a loading screen too.

You clearly don't get out much
Yeah, train station seems easier. (Of course, you can’t bring your car along, but still.) Better than a bridge, though!
Of course it's complicated, you cross a frontiere with a car on train and under the sea!!!😮.... For sure you don't have this thing in your village.
I've gone on Google Earth trying to figure out the mazes to get to the trains on both sides and it's impossible!
8 minutes of insane labyrinth to get the train 😆
Takes longer to get to the train than the actual journey !! Great fun though.
The route to the boarding platform....is RIDICULOUSLY LENGTHY AND MEANDERING!!!!!!!
Great Circus to reach the train😀
The best Trip for the country ❤️ 🙏🏼
I took the Euro tunnel (a.k.a LeShuttle) to paris back in may on the 19th to see metallica at Stade De France
that was the coolest thing ever i never seen anything like hat before
The weekend that travel must be an excruciating journey with all the tourists from everywhere
Looks way more complicated than when I last used it 15 years ago 😳
I agree, I used to go to the shop, use the toilet, then it was a quick drive to the train. I always used to think how quick and efficient the system was.
I've been on the Eurotunnel a few times, and will be using it in preference to the Ferry, from now on.
What the beautiful way to enter tunnel.... going to heaven.. just maybe
As long as you’re driving, you don’t even need to get the train. You’re practically there😮
The petrol tank is empty before you arrive at the train 🙄
Hold makrel, what a cirkus to get on a train 😊
Went on it quite a few years ago, in our Discovery, and had to go in the single deck carriage, a lot less claustrophobic.

Next time il try and capture the view from the train window!
I've been sat next to a window, and there's nothing to see, once you're in the tunnel.

Check-in at least 1 hour and not more than 2 hours before your scheduled departure time. The train journey itself is 35 minutes.
