Spoiler - the 4 Series is going to have trouble against this one! The new #CLE Coupe is a gorgeous replacement to both C Coupe and E Coupe in the #MercedesBenz line up! This alongside the new AMG GT, are now the only 2 door coupes the company sells - so they have a lot of burden on them as the only options available.
The CLE starts things off on the right foot, with a gorgeous design taking more from #mercedes’ sporty coupe heritage, rather than the “pillar less” luxury coupes of the part, and thanks to it’s muscle it almost looks like a w205 C63 coupe - and that’s just the standard car!
Then the powertrains, again we’re off to a great start - this is the CLE 450, with an inline 6 Cylinder engine, and 4matic all-wheel-drive! The CLE sounds good with this engine, particularly when you active the internal sound experience called “progressive sport mode”, which magnifies the engine sound for the interior occupants! I’ll show you this later, you’ll love it! This produces 381BHP and a 0-60 of 4.4 seconds.
The CLE has to satiate both C Coupe and E Coupe customers - for C Class fans, it’s still a sporty and dynamic car, but with much more tech, luxury and refinement than it’s ever had before, including things like rear wheel steering (the only one in class!), massaging seats, and adaptive sport suspension. For the E Class fans, you get a car as big, or larger than the previous both outside and in - and tech that largely reflects what you get in the new W214.
But, for the most part, the CLE really looks more like a C Class rather than the new E Class, but that’s not a bad thing in this journalist’s opinion. It’s nice to see that it’s not bloated in weight vs the rivals too, with the CLE weighing in at around 1900KG, it matches the 440i xdrive.
Mercedes once tried this with the CLK in the past, but the build quality then as not up to scratch - and now technology has come far enough that a car can be both sporty and luxurious without sacrificing on either! Indeed both BMW and Audi have also employed this strategy successfully with both the 4 series and A5, so it makes sense.
Engines wise, we will also get a host of 4 Pots ranging from 200HP in the CLE 200 and 220d to 258HP in the CLE 300. Plug ins are coming later, expect them to match the current C and E. There is a Cabriolet too, but this doesn’t benefit from the plug ins, not rear wheel steering.
What about the AMGs then? There are enough spy photos and videos to now make an educated guess on these! Firstly, I think the entry level model will be a CLE 53, and I think it’ll use a new AMG 6 cylinder unit, probably getting close to 500BHP. As for CLE 63, I think it will have the 4 cylinder battery/combustion hybrid like the C63, likely producing 680BHP in a 2.2 tonne thing. The great thing from what I can see however - is that they both seem to share the wide body AMG design! Which means if you only want the emotional 6 cylinder entry level car, you’ll still get the full design experience!
Today however is the first test drive of the new CLE - so I really want to see how a standard Mercedes Benz will stack up in the modern age against excellent cars available at rival houses. Will we have to rely on an AMG to have fun, or is this standard car good enough to put a smile on my face? Let’s find out. :)

I disagree. The C class coupe looked much better than the E class coupe but the c class was too small. This fills the gap.
As a former c class coupe owner with a family of four, I’ve a lot of respect for this.
The shape is fine, but they shouldve gotten rid of the B-pillar. Perfect inbetween.

As a C class coupe owner I like the smaller car, that is the point of having the C class range I don't want it bigger than the E class coupe.

I know it’s a thing from the past but, these newer cars will NEVER have the charisma from old 2000’s AMGs. 55s and 63s (and 65s) had raw power, looks was so badass, with big engines. These new cars feel so blend

Owned a 2013 E550 coupe and currently own a 2020 E450 convertible. I'm disappointed Mercedes decided to get rid of coupe and convertible E class for this. The interior and exterior just doesnt do it for me, but I'll test drive it and see how it feels. I beleive the Eclass was the best car for the money Mercedes made.

Fake exhaust is a minor issue. It doesn't bother me. If the car looks good and has good performance that is what is most important to me. And this CLE450 does that.
I would definitely consider this. Been looking at some cars, don't want to part with my E350 4matic yet. But when it's time, will be looking at this.
The best advice that i learned from Manny Koshbin is don't buy a Super or Hyper car until you have 10 times the price of it in your Bank account, when you purchase a Super car you add a car to your garage but u add also maintenance and unexpected damages that can happen in future
I understand Manny advice but that's overkill. If most people did that - they would never own one. The 10-15% rule is enough - especially if you make even more with multiple streams of income. My investment properties pay for my exotics cars. It's many different things you can do to afford easily and responsibly. You don't need a million cash to afford a cheap 100k car, My first exotic was 100k put down 20k- financed 80k. Then traded up to more expensive cars.
Now I have an Aventador, so it's not hard at all, Especially if you are making 20-25k plus a month with little to no debt with multiple streams and assets that produce income.
If you have that much money sitting in your bank account, that means that you are not investing your money properly. Money sitting in the bank doesn't really do anything for you because interest rates are so slow. It's better to have $1 million in a place where it can make you 5% on returns rather than having that $1 million sitting in your bank account making you 0.5% returns.
I started out last summer trying to invest and it's been a series of losses for me. I'm finding it very difficult to make profits and at this point I'm getting extremely frustrated., it's not as easy as it looks on TV
No need to get frustrated, You need to get a financial planner or expert on investments to aid diversify your portfolio to commodities index funds, digital assets etc, to provide illumination and guidance in the financial markets.
I’ve waited years for Mercedes to come out with an affordable sporty convertible that I really like and they finally did it this year. My favorite car is the AMG Roadster, but this is such a nice car for the price tag. Soon as it’s released Im buying one. Please review the convertible again!

I sold my 2013 E350 coupe a year ago. Ordered a Vivid Orange Metallic V8 2SS Camaro with the 455 HP NPP (dual mode exhaust) before they discontinue them too. What a blast. No regrets. I like the look and size of this CLE 450 Coupe, but that six and fake noise is a no go. Never heard the car from the outside in this review to determine any sound from the engine.
Can´t wait for a AMG 63 version of the CLE
The head lights on this with a slight modification would’ve been great for the CLS
Absolutely stunning car. Rear quarter and the wheels are very Bentley. No bad thing.
I have the cabriolet C43 V6. The sound is incredible (I know not as good as C63) I like that it’s not touch screen inside. However I might trade mine in for the C53 CLE Cabriolet once it comes out as I would like the extra leg room for passengers in the back and I would like a wider body with panamericana grill.
The matte paint being +5.000€ has to be a german joke. . .
Looks lovely but should be pillarless. Personally I'd take the soft top even if it meant not having a 6 cylinder.

Great review and makes me want to switch over the fairly new C300 to this CLE450. Just a classy enjoyable car to drive.
I've got a 2018 c300. I only just swapped from a 320i I didn't think there would be much difference. It's chalk and cheese. I cannot see myself buying another BMW. And the note it's stock standard and it's got quite a nice little snarl from the engine when you give it a bit. I'm looking at the AMG coupe now for the next one.
Man I really love that growl even though it's fake - wish I had gotten an M lite or lite AMG but I am enjoying EV life. Excited to see if this does well!
do you know if the 53 will be i6 or i4? on soundwise on nordschleife i cant really define it. if its i4 i will buy cle 450 and widebody it with original parts... even if its more expensive than original 53 then.

C Coupe less in terms of practicality? I know it's smaller than the E Coupe but I don't know if I need any more practicality from a coupe. I can fit all four semi-slicks with the seats down (and they are bigger than the stock tires at 295)

There's no way Mercedes will be offering a V8 again in this model line. We'd be lucky if the 63 gets a V6.
The 4 series with its grille is gonna have a hard time competing with this thing.
I also dont think 53 n 63 will go for smaller 4 cylinder engine cause 450 is 6..it would be disastrous 😂😂😂

I just ordered the 4 cylinder convertible. Considering the upgrade to the 6.
The graphite grey is the only colour I can get on with because of the plastic trim on the rear. I love every angle of the car but dislike the rear light bar and really think that rear plastic trim should be body coloured

Why would anyone buy the 4-pot when you can get the better 6-cyl. for far less? AMG's decision-making seems questionable these days. It might end up being a similar disappointment as the C63.

So glad they didn't use the 4 cylinder engine in this. Inline 6 is the best, only issue I hear is the battery can get hot and car will just shut off
I have had no problems with the battery of the inline 6. If there was a problem there would be a recall.

Great video and of course great car, but I still don't see how it "replaces" the C Coupe. The price will very likely bolster my point. It clearly replaces the E Coupe, and the C Coupe has simply been discontinued. The only way the CLE could "combine" the two is if the price is somehow in between. 🤷🏻♂️
With the fixed b pillar its not a replacement for the E Coupe, but a downgrade.

I had to switch off when you started thanking about fake engine sound coming through the speakers. Hate that. Just get a resonator delete done on the exhaust.
I have a 2019 C-Class Coupe which is great, but this just seems like an updated version of that car, albeit just larger. The only saving grace is the 450 spec option for those that don’t want to spend crazy AMG money for the 53. I feel sorry for existing E-class coupe owners as this is not an upgrade for them at all. I would seriously look at one of the last E-Class coupe’s as my next car as I can’t really see the value of this CLE at the moment. C-Class replacement at E-class money.
With a v8 this is better than spending money on an Amg GT or SL amg ... missing the old days with the SLR and SLS the proper enthousiast cars😢

Tesla is wow at the beginning but you will start to miss something in the interior
I have a 2015 C207 and wanted to buy this but Mercedes made a mistake by not removing the B pillar. And this car looks a lot like the C Coupe. It should've been closer to the E Coupe in terms of the design.

i might upgrade from my a35 to this. i opted not to go for the a45s+ or update to this years a35, i really like mine for a number of reasons. but wow this cle 450 looks like a really good step up. a sweet all rounder.

20" run flat tires on the E53 are horrible and makes it so rough over bumps.. it was worse than my 2018 SL63
In comparison to the previous c 63 amg coupe, the front looks a bit boring not so dramatic. I think this is caused by the grill surroundings. Furthermore the rear looks to much like an electric mercedes in my opinion. And then we have the 6 cylinder instead of a v8 also not sure about that choice.

Ohhh nooo... the exhaust note is electronically piped into the cabin via the stereo speakers?! I understand that you can turn this option off or just not turn it on at all... but it is still a deal breaker for me. Let's hope this absolutely ridiculous option isn't an option in the AMG versions, 53 & 63?! And don't say it is okay! It is not okay; and the reasons can go without saying....
Dream car
Its beautiful but I'm passing. I'm a e450 coupe owner. The CLE interior is C class (lower quality) and comes with a b pillar. I just can't purchase this no matter how gorgeous it looks on the exterior. They should've just dropped the c coupe completely and revamped the e class, it would've been perfect. Anyone else? Looks like I'll be switching over to Porsche. I'm a coupe guy.
Edit: to satisfy c class customers they could've made an 8 cyl version. Saved money on production by only producing 6 & 8 cyl versions.
Porsche cost much more… just saying.

Looks more like an updated C Class than a mixture of c and e . From the current E Coupe , this is a minor downgrade

It’s a C-Coupe. Nothing an out this is E-Class. We had the AMG version of this car a few months ago and it looks awesome. But again nothing E-Class about it.

This was a waste if you’re gonna combine both c and e class at least give more E class features. like why did Mercedes do away with the small back windows being able to go down that’s one of the features that distinguishes the two apart plus the dash board and control panel. Like I hate the divisiveness of cle coupe dash should’ve kept of the E class I don’t want the first generation I’ll wait for the one after I just feel like they should’ve made this an upgrade Cclass and kept the Eclass this ain’t it it has Class all over it rather than E class yuck
It is a little bit of everything and a lot of nothing. I don't see this as an improvement at all from my E Coupe. C class interior and B pillar for starters. The look and feel of the E Coupe is so much better. This CLE Coupe is a pure compromise because Mercedes, like all of the car makers, is putting their focus into EV's
The problem for the CLE 450 is that the majority of MB customers have no interest in this car.
