    I have the same campstove oven that I used for cooking everything from bread to casseroles to roasts in it for the first 6 months that I lived in my off grid cabin and yes, I got an adapter hose for hooking up to a larger tank.. I eventually got a 250 gallon propane tank and got my regular propane stove hooked up to it.. But I still have the camp stove as a backup..

    I have been using my cast iron bread pans for 18 years now and they were absolutely worth the investment. They are the only pan that got my freshly ground wheat flour loaves done all the way through.

      Cast iron is the best for bread, hands down! I was so happy when I finally invested in the pizza pan and I also have a square shaped one that I came across that I really like for doing one larger loaf of bread: amzn.to/2oc4qbg
      I REALLY want to get the cast iron muffin pans some day, that is the only reason I have not made muffins in awhile because I threw out the nasty aluminum ones years ago with the intent of getting cast iron ones

    I have their version without the top burners since I already have a couple propane burner stoves. I absolutely LOVE my oven. On one camping trip, I secretly made pineapple upside down cake and when I presented it during the nights desert, my wife was so surprised!! She had no idea that I could do this while camping....
    I would not use cast iron to bake in mine since it takes longer and uses more energy than using glass or tin pans. My own preference.
    I purchased the outer padded carry bag for mine to protect it during transport and storage. Extra long gas hose I picked up allows me the convenience of connecting it to a larger gas bottle.
    Great for camping, extra stove during the busy holidays and for emergency preparedness. Use yours all year long like I do. Cheers!!!

      Good plan on the glass, I still like cast iron for breads but for cakes, pies and such, I use glass. I baked a dried apple pie in it the other day (video coming out next week on that) and I did notice it baked MUCH quicker.

      Admiral Preparedness we like the little stove. You’re right about the cast iron and the heating times. The great thing about camping is that it gets us in an environment which causes us to think of our off grid skills. No ruffing it with you cooking is there 😁

    nice looking camp stove, I have seen them for yrs and have been debating if I wanted to purchase one or not and one thing that cracks me up, is how my folks in the states freak out when it comes to using a propane oven indoors. i lived in Spain for 2 yrs and that is there source of heat for there oven/stoves and for hot water for sink and shower and I have no issues with using propane for that in doors

      You could probably do that. There is a shroud around the burners similar to the set up on the old style, two burner white gas stoves. If one desires to can on it, I would remove the clips from their normal set up positions and let the lid or top lean back to give you more room for the caner. We like to use a propane "turkey firer" burner out on the deck, it works great.

    I almost bought one of these a couple years ago. I decided to go with several butane burners instead since we aren't big bread eaters here.. Well, except for cornbread. We LOVE cornbread. But, this video made me wish I had. I may just revisit it. Great tips!!! I guess what you did with regular bread would also apply to cornbread?
    Buy the way, thank you for your channel. You teach so much. I love your channel and adore you and Mr. Rain as a couple.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  6 років тому +1

      Though I would think you may actually be able to put the cornbread on the top rack as it is not as tall as the bread. I baked an apple pie in it the other day and used the top rack but next time I do, I am going to try it on the bottom rack as it got just a bit darker than I would have liked. So if you get it, I suggest starting on the low rack and watching it, then if it looks like it is not browning well, you can put it on the top rack.
      Thank you for your sweet words! :D

    I figure if things really get bad we will make flatbreads in cast iron on the grill or the little stick fuel oven 😁 there are only so many things I can store! But you are so right, know how your things work! Though I have to say my first time pressure canning on the outdoor propane burner worked pretty well and since I am forced to use it for all my pressure canning, it is really nice to do that outdoors.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  6 років тому

      Yes, I agree on that flat bread, however, I also think if we can do what we can to keep things as "normal" for our own lifestyle, the better. We try not to eat a lot of breads but a loaf of bread can go a long way for bringing comfort in a stressful situation - plus there is much you can do with it from making sandwiches, toast, french toast, and more.
      I have only ever pressure canned on propane and it is all I water bath can on as well. Though I keep saying I am going to try at least water bath canning on my rocket stove, that should be easy. I have seen one person so far do pressure canning on their rocket stove but I am nervous about that, I get too easily distracted and if the pressure drops to low because I did not keep the fire going hot enough, then I would have to start over!

    • @kleineroteHex
      @kleineroteHex 6 років тому

      Rain Country I'd be worried about the weight of a full pressure canner on the little rocket stove, but since I have not tried out my little stick fuel stove I can't say for sure 😊
      We eat bread in spurts but fresh bread is always so good I think freshly made flat breads would be "normalizing". As long as there is enough sun the sunoven will do for baking yeast breads. Have not been successful with sourdough, I think it does not get hot enough unless it's the middle of summer.

    • @MrRain-hk4zi
      @MrRain-hk4zi 6 років тому +1

      Flat bread is a great idea. We could probably make that right on top of the wood stove if we wanted. Heidi has made flour tortillas right on top of the wood stove top.

      I think we discovered it one day while shopping around in a Costco but we did not purchase it until about a year later from the online store. I looked for it on there and it is no longer available online but might be at the store.

      Yep, it has been going on for about 6 months on a large scale compared to what is normal. I have been doing all I can in Monday videos and in community posts to let people know but if they are unsubscribed and my content is also not showing in recommended feed, then many will still have no clue

    So , this can kill you if you use it indoors ?

      As long as you make sure you have good ventilation, it will be fine. This is why I use it near the glass door.

      I do not know as I have only baked a few things just to try it out. This is only a back up source for us.

    Anyone else have one of these and have burner issues.. i can get a high flame on one side but i turn the other side on and it wont go past a lil flame.. super bummed as i thought i could do a meal and have double the time now😢

      I wish I could say. This oven for us is really only a back up and I have never used the burners on it

      @Heseesyou Рік тому

      @RainCountryHomestead ok, this oven to us is our main source.. good old living off the land and trying to maintain good meals. After reading my comment and your response back, God filled my spirit to remind me how blessed we are to have his strength, wisdom, endurance, conviction , joy, peace, love, abilities to provide the provision in our season of trial. May we continue to praise him in all things as we endure til the end! Bless you.

    i like to see someone bake a 25# turkey in this.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  5 років тому

      Haha! I am doubting it would fit! For us, that would be easy enough to do on top of our wood stove though. We got this mostly for baking breads and pies that do not brown on top when baked on the wood stove but chicken and turkey will brown just in a roasting pan on the wood stove

    What would you say the propane consumption is on this? Hypothetically, using the top two burners 3 times a day, and using the oven twice a week?
    Planning on using a 10lb propane tank.
    Thank you!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  5 років тому

      Really great question but I have not used it often enough to be able to say. I would need to put a full tank on and then run it regularly to find out. Patrick thinks it would be more efficient than your standard full size propane range though.

      Rain Country could you perhaps do a video on it?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  5 років тому

      I can, though it may take a lot of time to put one together as I will have to remember to do my cooking on it and not sure how long it will take to go through a tank. I think we can hook it up to one of those small portable cans (I do not remember the size they are), if so, that would make it go faster.

      This is a very weird and uncomfortable comment that I have no idea what to make of. I guess if I was such a failure, I would not be where I am at so far nor have a good following of loyal subscribers that appreciate what I do.

      Are you not able to purchase online then? I am also guessing you would not be able to find them at garage sales or thrift stores in your area either. We currently have three campstoves, one bought at least 26 years ago new (if I remember correctly) and the other two we found at garage sales, one for $1 and the other for $5.

      Wow those are amazing prices, the sites list them on line, however always say out of stock for 2 years now. Thrift stores here never have camping equipment. sad face!
