Been a lot of rumours floating around, some from Qualcomm (ex) employees, suggesting Qualcomm has been fudging their benchmarks, meaning in reality the X plus/elite barely match M1 performance, so we'll see. Not an Apple fanboy, would love to see competition in this market for some powerful thin laptops that don't cost a second mortgage, but the amount of these rumours as of late is quite worrying. Even M1 level Windows machines would be welcome, if the price is right, but Qualcomm does have a history of exaggerating.

I also had the same toughts, when i saw somenpower consumption diagrams. It was obvious from the 23W peak and 23W sustained power consumption it's a device with cooler, but the M3 had only 19W peak and 8W sustained power consumption, so it was a fanless model.. not too hard to get bettet results with tricks like this. Also had some worries when the battery comparisons said it's can get 40% extra battery life in office 365 compared to x86.. really 40%? That is not even close to the 15-20hours of battery time.. i mean those excel, word etc doesn't even need a lot of performance..

Windows is challenging. So will come
More down to how well emulation works and software compatibility.

There is something most of you leave out when talking about external display support. In terms of number, yes, X elite supports more displays than M3. However, you always leave out the resolution-which is also essential. X elite supports up to three 4K@60 displays or two 5K@60 while M3 supports up to two 5K@60 displays with the lid closed. If it's number of pixels, the M3 technically is not far off from the X elite. And the M3 can also support one 6K@60 as well.

For example: My laptop use case is primarily running backing tracks on Ableton Live. I won't really need plugin compatibility since most of my tracks are either generic midi for automation or wav files, but I still need Ableton Live to work well for it to be worthwhile to me.

There seems to be something fishy going on with how Qualcomm is presenting the performance of their new chips. Don't get me wrong, it's good that they are bringing more competition by releasing this chip. However, if you pay close attention to the numbers they had presented when they first announced this chip compared to what they have presented recently, it begs the question if they are being candid? Qualcomm had shown the X elite to score over 3,200 points in Geekbench 6 single core test when they announced it, and now their showing around 2,800 points in their latest charts. Why did it decrease? Was the 3,200 used just to show how they beat Apple M2 and Intel in that respect?
Also, they keep talking about how their 12 performance cores CPU beats M3-which has 4 perf and 4 efficiency cores-in multi threaded benchmark. Like, really? M3? They don't even show the single core performance when doing the comparisons -which is the most important metric when using thin and light notebooks since most of the tasks involve single threaded workloads. They also omit the power consumption difference as well- again, very essential.
Look, like I said, it's good for competition to have their chips in PCs and I applaud them for what they bring to the table. But they have to come clean.

@MaxTechOfficial It doesn't matter if the X Elite & X Plus are not as good as Apple's M chips. However if they are better than ANY thin and portable laptop EVER made with an Intel or AMD processors then that's a massive step forward, because on top of that you'll be getting way better battery performance and no overheating for the first time ever in a Windows laptop.

Apple has started much needed revolution which Intel or AMD could predict looong time ago... instead they rather comfortably focused on their classic business model rather than pushing for something revolutionary. Especially notebooks were waiting for something like high performance & high efficiency for quite some time and both couldn't deliver until Apple made a right choice...
It's nice to see Qualcomm creating such a chip on the PC platform but I must say, they will have a tough job ahead with the Windows "heavy weight" platform. Apple had much simpler job to execute in much leaner ecosystem and environment based on very tight HW & SW integration. Microsoft on the other as we all know isn't really a "master of its craft" in this field...

Clearly, even the X chip compares to M3 Pro, but you keep showing screenshots comparing it to the base model M3. Just because you visited Qualcomm faculties and they were nice to you doesn’t mean you have to push their narrative. So far, I’m seeing Apple’s M3 Pro chips win in most categories, M3 base in some and let’s not even discuss M3 Max (the real competitor to Elite). I can’t wait till M4, M4 Pro and Max come in November. Apple can swat Intel and Qualcomm for taking so many years to start to approach Apple silicon. Yes, competition is great, but disingenuous specs marketing is not. And yes, Apple does sometimes do that, but it is FAR rarer than the competition. The Wintel monopoly (Microsoft and Intel) literally hobbled the industry for a long time and then comes along Qualcomm, monopolizing with double dipping patent royalties and exaggerating performance. Microsoft still lies about their surface tablets. Google is a spyware, data mining receptacle for ads and for spooks and half of these companies have arms contracts and AI tech being used in mass murder around the world. I’ll take Apple’s walled garden any day.

ARM on windows needs to become like android: the best midrange options. There needs to be a well built laptop with a good screen (not matte VA and TN panel), decent keyboard, speakers and trackpad. It just needs to be able to run chrome almost as well as an m1 MacBook runs safari and for a similar price to an m1 MacBook air currently. Galaxy book2 go is probably the only low end ARM laptop and it costs $500 for a laptop that performs like a celeron and has a rubbish screen. To be fair, when I tried the galaxy book go originally before chrome even got an ARM version, the main issue was the 4gb of ram which made Edge pretty unusable. I'd want to try an 8gb ram 7c gen 3 laptop to see if it can do basic web browsing well because that is pretty much all I use a laptop for. I have not seen a single review of the galaxy book2 go either.

I really want the competition to beat what Apple is doing as it will mean Apple will give us better chips when its their turn. Everyone wins.
I love that this chip supports so many external displays, you know the M4 will do the same now (if not more).
The days of x86 are over. Intel and AMD need to take this arch. seriously (which I know they are).

Their target is Intel and AMD. ARM processors, like Apple Silicon, will soon stand on equal ground. Apple will utilize its CPUs, while Qualcomm aims to dominate the PC market, where both CPU types compete evenly. The Intel x86 line becomes a historical footnote as both Intel and AMD decline, paving the way for Qualcomm and Apple to dominate for decades to come.
