Adventure to Platypus Flats on the Nymboida River in an old renovated poptop caravan

- Platypus Flat campground a beautiful area surrounded by the tall trees and rugged granite gorges of Nymboi-Binderay National Park on the Dorrigo plateau. Here we found ourselves camping right on the rainforest-lined river banks of Nymboida River in our old poptop caravan.
On the Nymboida you can launch your canoe for a paddling trip or a kayak adventure through some white water. We had a quick dip but at this time of year in October the water is still pretty fresh and we didn't last long but in summer it would be so good!
During our two night stay out here we enjoyed plenty of time by the campfire enjoying the sound of the river and the surrounding wildlife. Speaking of wildlife we actually came across quite a lot! We spotted plenty of goannas meandering through the campgrounds, three blacksnakes, a python, echidna and some beautiful birds.
The old caravan is coming together very nicely and in this video I run through a few of the modifications including the slide out kitchen where my wife was making good use of it to cook up some amazing banana pancakes.

Hi guys just a question dose the caravan entry door rub on the slide on awning?
Yes mate it does so I bought a little wheel from Abco Caravans and fitted it to the top of the door.

@@garybrumby4875 The canvas awning came with the van when I bought it and luckily it was in pretty good condition. All I had to do was run a new section of sail track for it to attach to on the van.
A motor trimmer or canvas shop should be able to make one up pretty easily for you.
How did you go with roadworthy and rego, was it a hard process?
Hey mate it was no trouble at all. I booked it in at a local caravan place here in Coffs Harbour and they checked over everything and it was all good apart from a couple of minor things which they fixed up for me. They then gave me the blue slip so I could go and get it registered. All pretty simple really.

Thanks Andy! The van is a 1988 Adelma Pop Top. It’s been heavily modified though which you can see the build in my earlier videos 😄
