Loved the Black dudes reactions. He’s spot on. Say what you will about Slipknot or Corey Taylor, the dude is a poet and an erudite with his lyrics. He is actually quite well read and tries to incorporate intellectually stimulating and existential topics into his lyrics.
He got a lot of criticism for his over usage of expletives on the first two albums and then incorporated more sophistication and depth into his lyrics in his musical pursuits since.
Yo in my opinion the best Slipknot song is (me inside and before I forget)
Oh and I'm from the same generation as the kids
You're a legend Finn. I love your comments
I love this because I actually watch that UA-cam channel
This is the first generation to look back at older music and say, “Too crazy and heavy for me”. It’s a total reversal of the way it’s traditionally been
Naw my mom n aunts use to say the same shit about Sabbath in the 80s
It kinda makes me proud!!!
I mean it's not shocking from what ive seen with the majority of younger gen Z.
its kind of disappointing tbh, growing up listening to metal, i always thought people would be more open to heavy music as the years go by and thats true to some extent but its definitely still a “taboo” genre of music for the majority of people.
Full disclosure I’m an older Gen Z and I mean Slipknot is fine. Corey is a talented vocalist imo
It's funny how the world changes. These kids sound exactly like my parents when I listened to 2000s metal bands.
Indeed
Same lol my mom called emo music demonic lmao
Some of us gen z do love metal, but yeah slipknot sucks lol, except psychosocial
Gen Z and Boomers are now allied to make fun of Gen Y
It's funny to me because they sound more like my grandparents than my parents.
"I'm ok with metal but heavy metal is too much for me"
This statement is incomprehensible
Well obviously they're talking about about the Jonas brothers
@@MicahRibbentrop 🤣🤣🤣 yeah!!
I think he means he likes softer types of metal not really heavy metal.
@@mangogoat4691 what does that even mean still lol
@@mangogoat4691 Tbh, I can't imagine a "softer" type of metal than heavy metal 🤣
Maybe some nu-metal like some of Linkin Park/ Limp Bizkit's songs?

is now my go-to description of metal
😂

"We mostly write about society, and if people think it's satanic then that says something about society." -Tom Ayara, Slayer. Fits so perfectly with Slipknot's music...
No it doesn’t. Slipknot lyrics range from being a beta, getting picked on for how you dress and bring heart broken.
Slayer lyrics range from a descent into hell, dark spirits, serial killers…. It’s nowhere close to the same
@@badground3534 I think you might've misunderstood my comment...or maybe didn't even bother of comprehending it.......I didn't say that Slipknot and Slayer songs are about the same shit, what i've said that the 'quote' fits most of slipknot's songs and if you trying to tell me that they don't tend to write about society then i advise you to check out the meaning behind for example (psychosocial, yen, the dying song).
@@Shekshy yeah those songs are about society being shitty and judging people just like I said. Slipknot numetal beta male poser bullshit.
Slayer has songs about cool heavy metal shit. Not being picked on for being a beta male
@@badground3534 I still don't get why the quote couldn't fit their music.....and yeah their songs are really 'the medicine for the dead'...that one i agree

From what I know based on what former reactors have said, the videos aren't technically "scripted", but the people who run the show are selective about which reactors they choose for each video and which reactions they end up using, so it's likely that they tried to pick kids who they knew would talk crap about slipknot and then threw in Jaxon as the token person who actually likes it.
The same dudes that tried to trademark reaction videos right? What a dumpster fire that whole situation was haha
Didn't even know they were still running
@@andralea2144 Well, at least, none of their vids are that popular anymore.
Jaxon doesn't even like this metal so that doesn't work.
They literally just threw in a bunch of people who either don't know anything about metal and just the people who would talk shit about it

My son just turned 12 and he got into Slipknot without me having to introduce them to him…. so proud. 🤟

@@ItsMe0274 I thought that too.
Whenever i hear this distinction made, i wonder if they're referring to Iron maiden or disturbed as metal. Both of which i refer to as rock.

This guy is a loser lol
Exactly this.
I find it adorable in some cases. However I don't know, I guess the goal has always been for people to be disturbed by Heavy Music anyways? 🤔

Of course they love it. Slipknot is a band that kids are into. When you talk to adults including adult metalheads, we aren't listening to it and prefer the heavy stuff to this nu metal.
Just remember this is a select group of gen Z kids.
At my high school, people listen to tons of metal including: Korn, Slipknot, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Rage Against the Machine, Black Sabbath, along with other bands. While metal isn’t as popular as it once was, there still are new kids getting into metal and the React video definitely doesn’t represent all of gen Z.
True, and they purposefully selected 2 out of 3 dramatic feminine boys as well. It is what generates views I guess.

As someone who entered high school in '99 when Slipknot's "first" album came out, I recognize how much of a specific point in time we magots must have been lol.
I remember arguing in high school when Iowa came out and I said Self Titled was better... the anger I received. Good times. 😁

I’m 18, and I first discovered slipknot in 5th grade with devil in I. I didn’t really get too much into metal until highschool. He was actually from Iowa and knew someone who was related to one of the band members.

As I've gotten older I've really come to identify with you, Finn. I love metal but also loathe that I love it. It's what I grew up on and is the comparative lens that I listen to music through. The more I listen, the less serious I take it, but whenever I try to broaden my horizons I find myself gravitating back to extreme metal. In a weird way, it has become my safety blanket. This has spiraled into some weird self-realization thing so I'll just end it by saying "hell yeah, brother" ✊
You have to learn to laugh at metal. I feel the same with punk. When i was a teen I sang along to all the cringe angst and now i still listen to it but it makes me laugh my head off

So basically bitchy popstars that hate their fans? Yep 😂
When I went to see Knocked Loose, Creeping Death, and Bitter End last month there was plenty of gen z kids in attendance. Heavy music may not be mainstream but it’s still got an audience.
I don’t think hardcore or extreme metal genres ever wanted to be loved by everyone. Being “out there” enough that it takes a certain kind of person to get into it is part of the genres.
Bitter End is dope
Metal, was never for everyone. That is part of it's appeal. When i was a 10-year-old kid, i was told it's just a phase and will outgrow it. Here I am today 47, still going. I have 2 sons, 13, into martial arts and 11 learning to play drums. I never forced them to like my music but play all my CD's. I am blessed. Important Note: my wife hates anything heavy.
“Palatable”; just what Slipknot was hoping to be 😂 I fall in love every time I re-watch these music videos
The phrase "Boomer Nu Metal fans" was the real sick burn in the video.
Finn I regularly find new stuff that I seriously enjoy on your Spotify playlist, thank you!
Im gen z (born 2000) and litro grew up listening to Slipknot, MachineHead, Slayer, etc. During the early 2010s.
I then got into deathcore and deathmetal heavily and am now finding myself in my early 20s now into the more emo side of metal and metalcore from bands like A Day to Remember and BMTH who were the band that led me in this direction from Deathcore, but its just ironic bc im into the music now that i shouldve been into in its prime in the 2010s and was aimed at that age range whereas back then i listened to music aimed at my age range noe
Respect
Just wanted to say how nice it is to hear from an actual gen Z kid in these comments. Thank you! Sorry you don't have any pre-9/11 memories btw. World was much more chill before.
Respect. It’s rare to find kids that listen to rock music in general. Hence kids that do listen to rock music listen bands us older generation listened to as kids.
Gen Z as well, born in '03 and grew up on rock and metal. From the classics to the new stuff, I have huge admiration for every era of rock and metal, and I like to dabble in other genres as well. Without metal, I would literally not be the person I am now, I would not have had the mindset I have or the creative thinking I have when it comes to art and music. Slipknot helps me when I'm in my darkest hole, Corey himself is a huge inspiration and idol to me.
emo =/= metal
I love that they’re around the age I discovered Slipknot, and fell in love with the look and sound… and they’re so put off by it😂 but then if you take a glance at their ascetic you can tell they’re not going to be fans
A few of them have a low T count to be sure
@@danieltoft2116 Most metal fans have a low t count. That’s why they’re perennially pissed off. These kids simply grew up on pop and rap songwriting and catchy singles, not dudes with beards in their 30’s screaming into a mic in an abandoned building or an led colored soundstage.

My 16 year old daughter absolutely loves Slipknot! Have seen them live a couple times. Loves it all

slipknot original stuff is way more better then the new sound I don't get their new music
@@jakemillar6925 I think post-Stonesour and factoring in the huge commercial success they started to receive when Corey started turning Slipknot into basically just a heavier Stonesour, Slipknot is basically a radio rock band like Breaking Benjamin but can also occasionally and strategically still incorporate some more extreme elements to straddle that line, both being palatable enough to make good money but also appease the older fans too
I remember being a kid, going into Hot Topic, and Spencer’s, and being terrified of the Slipknot shirts and ESPECIALLY the masks. The drummers mask with all the nails in his head terrified me 🤣 but I loved the music lol

The real tragedy is that they used the radio-friendly version of “Wait and Bleed” , where Corey sings more on the verses and not the original album version.
Lol and hard-core Slipknot fans say the band wasn't radio friendly back then
I'm actually surprised that they didn't play a more mellow song like Vermilion pt. 2 or Snuff, just to show the contrast.
Slipknot sounds like Infant Annihilator to these kids. Crazy to think I'm exactly their age
Finn with second degree burn. After all the metal nerds fall for the bait and raged comment the original video, they'll see this video, hoping that Finn will affirm their feelings. But nope, he's along for the ride.
Metal isn't mainstream. This react video just proves it. Metal is for metal heads.
Watching this while wearing a slipknot hoodie that says, "We Are Not Your Kind". I expect people to not like slipknot or heavy metal. In fact, I'm surprised to meet someone that actually listens to the stuff I do. 😄
Finn, your existential nightmare of humoring Nu Metal fans is becoming more real with every day. At least you’re handling it well.
I wouldn't say Slipknot is my favorite band, but the context of the video makes me like them more than ever haha. It made me think, wait...is metal intimidating again? Slipknot is pretty tame in comparison to most bands that get these complaints. I have heard almost all these comments before, but it feels like it's been forever. "This isn't even music", "I like metal, but hot HEAVY metal"(?), "this isn't singing it's just screaming" All these hilarious takes I would have heard from my grandma 15 years ago 🤣
Finn we need more of this, most I’ve laughed in a long while
These reactions just remind me of my best friend, who has grown to kinda tolerate my screamy music but it still weirds him out. He's 35. So I don't think it's a generational thing but more a cultural thing.
I was born in ‘99. Im not sure if that counts as gen z, but I grew up with my dad playing slipknot Vol.3, korn’s deuce dvd, and linkin park live in Austin dvd, when I was 4&5 years old. That shaped my music taste forever 😂
Also born in '99. My pops was into rock and my mom into pop so I got the best of both worlds growing up. Thanks to them not being super judgemental of what I was exploring, I was able to adopt a mature mentality towards music at a pretty young age. I will make sure that I carry on that tradition

With all the semi-recent Pop Punk and Shoegaze stuff creeping in, I feel like Rock will be creeping back into playlists in a few years. Already hear hybrid stuff where new Rock bands are incorporating Rap and 808's into the mix (and it doesn't sound like Nu Metal), so I feel like whatever Rock will come back as, it will be something relatively new. Just like 00's Prog Rock and Nu Metal were compared to the 90's, and the 90's to the 80's, and etc etc etc.
And whatever it'll be, will be hated by people really into Slipknot of course.
@ghost mall I mean, it's technically still around. But from the mainstream? It definitely went away for the last decade+ in favor of EDM, and then Hiphop. The closest thing you'll see this gen talk about Rock is the Pop Punk spearheaded by Travis Barker and anime/video game openers
I'm pretty sure that it'll be the next big thing, it's always waves, kids getting bored of what their older siblings and parents listened to ten years beforehand, etc. Long as the music's good in general, bring on whatever lol
Slipknot is some good ol fashion classic rock
I showed my high school students a video of Trivium, because I had gone to a concert of theirs recently, and they called it “Emo” and acted like it was extreme.

As a 17 year old and a member of gen z we don’t claim most of these kids. It might just be the friends i surround myself with but there’s a pretty good amount of kids in the state i live in that don’t judge when it comes to music. As a guy in my mid 40s, I’ve been waiting for music to come out that’s next level and shocking so I can be like parent’s generation saying “this shit is too crazy for me”, but the opposite has happened. A lot of music is just boring and bland. Nothing has really changed or progressed. Decades don’t have identities anymore.
