Icehouse is an Australian rock band, formed as Flowers in 1977 in Sydney. Initially known in Australia for their pub rock style, they later achieved mainstream success playing new wave and synthpop style music and attained Top Ten singles chart success in both Europe and the U.S. The mainstay of both Flowers and Icehouse has been Iva Davies (singer-songwriter, record producer, guitar, bass, keyboards, oboe) supplying additional musicians as required. The name Icehouse, which was adopted in 1981, comes from an old, cold flat Davies lived in and the strange building across the road populated by itinerant people.
Icehouse's iconic status was acknowledged when they were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame on 16 August 2006. ARIA described Icehouse as "one of the most successful Australian bands of the eighties and nineties... With an uncompromising approach to music production they created songs that ranged from pure pop escapism to edgy, lavish synthesised pieces..." Icehouse has produced eight Top Ten albums and twenty Top Forty singles in Australia, multiple top ten hits in Europe and North America and album sales of over 28 times Platinum in Australasia alone. As of 2006, Man of Colours was still the highest selling album in Australia by an Australian band.
I must have been 10 yrs old as I walked into "Brashs" ( you aussies will know what i'm talking about), and buying the Man of Colours album in the first year that the "Compact Disc" was released. The hardest part was having to wait til you got home to play it, car cd players hadn't been invented yet. Made it all so much more authentically exciting.
So many family members borrowed that cd until the day it came back jumping & skipping during the start of "The Kingdom". A little toothpaste did the trick. What a time, what a group, what an inspiration that kept me playing piano/keys.

Reminds me of someone who broke my heart when I was 24, I used to play this and cry. Now I don't care but this is still one of the best songs ever in my life.
I so wish I was there in person to see this concert. I was in awe the whole way through with the production being a live gig. The vocals from the young kid were just mind blowing. He was just AMAZING & did it beautifully/justice. The fellow on the sax was brilliant!! All of it was!!
My cousin has followed Flowers then Icehouse from the start. I’m 39 now & most people my age no doubt probably wouldn’t listen to them (my husband does like me). But I have enjoyed ever single Flowers & Icebouse song & I think they are one of the best artists Australia has ever seen. Their songs speak to me & move me like music should.

My wife and I saw them in Jan 2014. I know it might sound over the top. But there live sound is better than the studio sound. Saw them at the Crown Palms, incredible performance.

Saw this great song in Christchurch New Zealand, in 88 in the Town Hall, which was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquake, such a great place for a concerts,heading back there next month to see a concert,can't wait

It's not just the performance of the band, and especially this song, that was great with this 'moshcam' concert on UA-cam. The mixing/sound quality etc of this recording is also IMHO first class. They've captured the feel/vibe/sound etc of a live concert brilliantly and have done the band justice (having seen Icehouse at another venue on this 'tour'). Again this is only my personal opinion!
Went to a concert recently and Iva made a point of saying that they hire the best tech's in the business and book shows a year out to ensure they can get them all. Your opinion is 100% spot on
