    I played drums all through school and since 98' when I got my first drum set. Many bands and ups and downs, even a couple slumps like you've discussed. I feel like this is the right time to sign up and finally elevate my skills to where I always wish they were. Reminder is set and I'm anxiously awaiting the sign up. Thanks Gabe!

I got out of drum rut by pushing through and taking small steps to get better and then my skill cam es back and even ssd's stronger than it wss, I knew it was drum rut because i saw your video on it thank you

    I really respect this video
    One thing that got me out of a drum rut is
    set a new years resolution and stick to it.
    I know it sounds corny. But My resolution for 2020 was to play drums open handed and
    allow my left hand to work more. It was something I've been wanting to try but couldn't get my self comfortable with it.
    So my plan was that every time I get behind that drum set I would take 20 minutes to play basic beats/grooves and lead them with the left hand.
    In about three to four months, my left hand became more natural to playing drums left/open handed.
    on month 10 of playing open handed I start to get a good idea on how I can get creative with open handed playing.
    And just this month of December I made the biggest change and set up my drums in a way that allows me to play more freely and open,
    but also allow me to still crossover.
    Gabe if you are reading this. Thanks for inspiring many drummers including myself. You are very humble
    and helpful person that can help a drummer better their playing from new comers to veterans alike.
    I wish you great opportunities for 2021

Thanks a lot. Greetings from Slovakia

  • @drew_the_drummer
    @drew_the_drummer 3 роки тому

    Thanks man this is a great video and its important to make a plan and focus on getting somewhere that's specific. You nailed why drummers fall into ruts. Either is no goal or plan or they have lost direction and and are trying to learn the wrong things for that goal. I have been looking at my playing and have trying to pinpoint the things I am not doing that separates me from the "pros". Its hard sometimes to figure those things out but if you really look hard and think of the things you do over and over you will see what you've got and what you don't. keep up the great work.

    Crikey, that’s why it’s nearly impossible to make any progress when you’re all over the effin’ charts practicing bits and pieces here and there. I’m living proof these last couple of months. I’ve been looking for a drum program with what I’ve checked out thus far on the site as a paying member appears to be almost precisely what DBO offers. So glad one of your videos appeared on my radar. There are some simple additions that I think would be a nice touch and would help motivate students drummers even more, but as I’m not a website developer of this caliber, I have no clue how complex it would be to make these simple additions. Dopamine is a great motivator.

    Look I been in bands I been on stage I been told I'm a good drummer I play mainly Ska but I also do drum cover of music. My problem is most drummer beats and fills are used in a lot of songs. The guitars and rythem kind of change it up. I feel like nickle back. What make a totally different beat that sticks out from the rest. What will make a beat that nobody ever heard of. What be away to stand out from the rest?

    There actually are no secrets to drumming progress. If you can't nail the 'boom tshak boom tshak' (kick on 1 & 3, snare on 2 & 4) with various hi-hat patterns, 'perfect' balance and consistency in sound of every piece of the beat or when your double and single strokes are not even and tight (+alternating hand and between foot), you shouln't move on to chops, double bass metal, jazz etc.
    Get your default setting first. Then the rest.

      But great video as always!

    • @DrumBeatsOnline
      @DrumBeatsOnline  3 роки тому +1

      You are exactly right.That's why the DBO Drumming Path is so important, so that everything that you learn is building from one lesson to the next and you aren't moving on until you have foundations nailed down. What you described is a perfect example of why the "more more more" method is so dangerous!
