    "Cute" is a very common expression for American women in describing something they like. I live in Canada now, and Canadian women don't use this term in the same way. It is not meant to dismiss or condescend, it is a compliment, "cute' means something likable!

    I love this show! Glad there's second season :) haha the fake hair part, but she danced well. Tiffani, Stephanie, Adiya, LaUra, Ziva, Andrea, Cristina, Anais, Lara and Dalida danced best.

    i like this show..the only thing i don't like is that some women dance classic bellydance in classic costumes to folk music like shaabi and saidi. and the judges notice all the mistakes, except these ones

      LOL, it's meant as a compliment. The judges and competitors are all strong women who respect and support each other.

    Hundreds of thousands of viewers? I see 9,000 hits so far … very entertaining show … LOVE to watch it … but are these dancers competing at their own expense? Do they pay their own airfare to get to the contest? Or does the contest pay airfare and expenses?

    • @sfyffe
      @sfyffe  10 років тому +3

      The show was originally released on Vimeo a year before it was posted on UA-cam, so that is where the majority of the traffic is. Between season 1 and 2 it gets about 3,000 hits per week at this point.

      @sfyffe  10 років тому +3

      It is run like a normal competition - so they are paying to participate. None of the judges are getting paid either. Everyone is doing it for fun and for publicity.

    • @ByzantiumCA

      What is normal about any "pay to play" belly dance competition? The cost of airfare & hotel limits contestants to "Locals only" or dancers with money. How can anyone guarantee a "star" will be found amongst a pool of DC locals and gals with money? Don't get me wrong - the winners are worthy dancers. I had fun rooting for my favorites. Yet to find a true "star" … wouldn't you need to cast a wider net?

    • @sfyffe
      @sfyffe  10 років тому +4

      Unfortunately, it does limit the competitors to those who can pay. We had season 1 on the East Coast and season 2 on the West Coast to mix it up a bit, so at least there is that. The "TV show" component of this competition makes it very expensive to run, plus the prizes are big, so it puts us in a awkward position. We toyed with different price models (like making viewers pay to watch, having sponsors, etc) but we decided that the participants would get more exposure if we didn't charge the viewers. We did our very best to make sure that everyone who participated gained exposure out of it, so in that sense we think the dancers get more out of our competition that some others that aren't publicized much at all. We would love to cast the widest net possible and are open to any suggestions that would help with that.

      @ByzantiumCA 10 років тому

      You already did my first suggestion which would be to use other locations … glad to hear they weren't both in D.C.! And yes … I agree you did the right thing to make it free view. Personally, I don't care for competitions b/c they are "pay to play". Yet I can see you put a great deal of thought into yours. You get many viewers who would never see a bellydance competition (like me). Good luck with your future endeavors. In a perfect world possibly you would rotate many locations: NYC, Miami, Chicago, etc. or pay airfares and hotels to those who qualify via video audition ... I realize your budget might not be at that level either };>

    Thana Tarab “May the best woman win”.. that came off really.. idk I just didn’t like that. It’s not a best woman contest. All of them are great women.
