I am a mom to two sets of twins. My first set are boy/girl fraternal twins. My second set are identical boys. You said that twins run in both of your families, but
it is the mother's genes that determine twins. Actually, giving birth to identical twins is not genetic, but conceiving fraternal twins is. The mother may have the genetic trait of releasing two eggs in one menstrual cycle. So if there are fraternal twins in your extended family, there is a greater chance that you too could have twins. Also, it is a myth that twins skip a generation. The study of identical twins is still ongoing because no one really knows the cause of identical twins. Some doctors believe that the older you are can play a part in having twins because you’re eggs are older and split easier. I think that is what happened in my case because I was 35 when I got pregnant with my identical twins. Even though life with twins can be challenging, it is also very interesting and fun.
