- The defending champions, 7-time winner UP Pep Squad, again upped the shock factor in this year's UAAP Cheerdance Competition by coming out with clean-shaven heads in a toned-down and minimalist routine.

First few seconds into the routine, I was already clapping. Not only because of the stunts, but because of the MEANING the routine was trying to show. I didn't even give a flying eff with that fall in the end because 1) Jeez, did anyone see the difficulty level of the stunts?, 2) Though other squads have nice themes too, I like THIS theme--freedom and equality--it's so very UP and relevant and I just feel so proud of UP Pep. Congratulations, UP Pep Squad. You're the platinum standard. :)
the reason why UP keeps on winning is because of the innovations they keep on adding each year..their stunts are clearly more difficult, and yet they're able to do it with ease....UP PEP SQUAD is the pacesetter, the rest follows on what UP has already done....

Baliw na baliw na pala sila nung araw diyan. Napapashit pa. Kahit mga Senior High School Pep Squad hindi na mananalo 'to. Etong ganitong moves, buhok at props pa rin nakita ko sa UP 2018. Hindi naman pala sila humina. Naging stagnant lang talaga.

People keep on forgetting what the spirit of cheerdance is. It is not just a performance of tosses, stunts, dance steps, and dismounts. It is a competition aimed at inspiring the audience. And I am sure the judges are more than capable of properly deciding who should win based on criteria of judging presented.
the routine is sooo nice!!! ONE fault does not always mean the WHOLE picture is bad because the as whole IT is great :)

Ang light ng movements, walang kahirap-kahirap.. smooth.. tamang tama bagsak ng sounds sa movements nila..
FEU's performance was very clean, precise and for lack of better word, perfect. BUT it was also full of angst and frustration. they were so consumed by their desire to be number 1 that the performance was robbed of heart. UP showed honesty and heart in their work. and that is why they can touch people, albeit the small hiccup. UP performed their piece, not to beat the other schools and be number 1, but to show everyone their love for the sport.

they decided to quit looking pretty and just feature their stunts and technical skill. It's amazing, really; the dismounts are beautiful, the pyramids are stable, the toss mounts are mind-blowingly perfect (except that one at the end). You can tell they're performers and not just competitors.

you have to admit. this is THE most EPIC performance UP has ever done... the routine was minimalist... please take note. and everything was perfect.. even the fall makes it perfect. ;) bravo!
eto ang simple pero rock! Iba talaga ang UP ang linis ng stunts up to the small details/lines. SWABE kase sila gumalaw. That's the big reason why they still grabbed the trophy even with that error in the end.

I love the part when they enumerated all the other university mascots. It shows that UP respects all the participants. Congratulations again!
I've watched all videos of the competition and one very observable thing is that UP's routine is very smooth and fluid. Notice all their stunts...there's no execution time at all. Notice the other schools' stunts, sobrang kita na they had to prepare for it. I guess that's what makes UP better, everything seems easy and seems like it's just in the right place.

Mema comment ito. Research research din. Laging kasama ang UP sa Podium. Once lang sila hindi nakasali so far. Season 79 they didnt join. Season 80 no place. Why is it that everyone is so negative. The level of CDC flourished because of the standards set by UP UST and FEU. Other schools were inspired that's why they stepped up their game as well. We cannot compare past performances especially if it's already 3 or more years back. Each team is growing each year. Please just support each team because they are giving us excellent entertainment. Be educated and act one.

Masyadong bragging sa 8 crowns eh tatlo lang naman silang contender dati at mas sikat ang Basletball/Volleyball dati kaysa sa CDC, mas sumikat ang CDC ngayon dahil sa NU, AdU, UE at FEU. Tsaka mas magaling pa ang Altas Perpsquad dito sa UP Pep mo even before.
I think the best part in this performance is that UP Pep Squad did not just cheer for UP pero to ALL schools. Lahat sila binigyan ng puwang sa mahigit limang minutong performance nila. Iska ako pero sa unang pagkakataon, dama ko UAAP sa performance nila. You can diss UP Pep pero sana maisip niyo rin that you were also part of that performance. Hindi lang sa amin yun kundi para sa lahat. ;)

Bitchesa mae Biglangtambling There are a lot of factors involved in the scoring system. And even if UP had a major fall, that was just one major mistake in the routine. In all other areas, they did well, even with the difficulty of the stunts. So it was very evident that they really dominated the competition.

Kaya pala todo lait kapag may failed stunt sila. Ngayon yun na ang standard at humabol na AdU, UE at FEU. Matagal na silang sanay dun ang UP Pep Squad ngayon pa lang mag-uumpisa.

Napakalayo noong Madonna routine nila last year, this one is very symbolic in a sense na kailangan busisishin ang bawat detalye ng routine na ito.
Hindi ko ito inexpect na ganito ang routine nila, I was in goosebumps while watching this.

sobra. when UP Pep Squad was performing No Reaction sila pero nung may nagkamali dun sa last seconds of the routine, NABUHAYAN SILA NA mas natuwa pa sila na nagkamali. SAD. I always root for Animo Squad since I'm an Archer pero sobrang bilib na bilib ako sa UP Pep Squad. They always give it their best shot and their routine's really good enough to be the CHAMPION! :)
I'm an FEU pep squad fanatic certainly because of their passion and versatility to cheering. All I can say is everyone gave their best for this competition. I see nothing wrong with UP bringing home the prestige of winning as champions again because from what we've seen of it, they really deserve it. The fall didn't count for the whole brilliant, original, energetic, enthusiastic and shocking presentation for them not to win title. The end doesn't make them less of a winner.

CONCEPT & ORIGINALITY > PERFECT ROUTINE
Cheerleading teams were judged according to dance technique (10 to 20 points), jumps and tumbling (10 to 15), tosses (10 to 15), lifts and stunts (10 to 15), pyramids (10 to 15), choreography and synchronization (six to 10), audibility and clarity (three to five), and audience impact (three to five) for a total of 100 points. A point is deducted from the groups for minor errors, while major errors are penalized five points. ;)

Cheerdancing is about athleticism, not being flashy or colorful. That's why they won. Congrats UP! Keep pushing the boundaries of this competition!
I really liked UP's Routine for it's simple music. Unlike the other groups, the music was to wordy affecting the visuals of their performance. Instead of enhancing the whole routine, the music pulled them down..
I'm an ADMU die-hard fan but UP rocked their performance and the fans as well! Congratulations, UP! Outstanding performance. :)!

Their stunts are like cirque de soleil cheerdance version. The uniform made the routine more unique to watch, and the energy is just channeling to everyone who watches them. No question, they are indeed a champion.

UP brought the cheerdance competition to a whole new level! Yes, there was a major mistake at the end but come on people - just consider the level of difficulty of their routine! Inverted split! I don't know about other people but I've never seen that in my five years of watching CDC!

I would prefer an ALMOST perfect, DIFFICULT routine than a CLEAN yet MEDIOCRE one. This year's story of FEU reminds me of a clean Salinggawi routine 2 years back. Did they place? No.
Kudos to UP Pep for constantly showing innovation, creativity, and SWAG.
The squad does not only cheer for UP but for the whole society,cheering for freedom and calling out for gender equality and among other things. And that what makes them unique and always stands out. Laban UP..wooohhhoo..congrattsss

Although this may appear unconventional to your old school scoring, I believe 'peer-based' ranking is much more accurate.

Not every performance needs to make the audience happy or smiling. Why do people watch dramas when the main goal there is to make them cry? And they were trying to deliver a message here, freedom. I think that's more admirable than just performing for the sake of winning and entertaining the audience.
up up up for UP!! very meaningful performance hindi yung bsta perform lng.. not a single fall can change the impact but how will they continue the performance and still,hanggang matapos yung routine npapaWOW paren ako.. congrats from a proud tamaraw :)

Masyadong pinag isipan ang routine ng UP this year...the soundtrack/s...moves....well defined...malinis .... likha ng mga matatalinong indibidwal.
Just an opinion, you don't want to be the school that wins just because UP had a fall, you want to win because you were better than UP. Win or lose UP's routine was just in a whole new level.
Ang low budget ng uniform..pero wala talaga sa panlabas na anyo yan kundi nasa husay, galing at puso sa pagpeperform! GO UP Pep!
this part is an example that UP goes the extra mile. all teams did a scorpion, but UP did it, then did a 360 turn.
I still get goosebumps even after watching their performance for the nth time. :3

Basically, what UP Pep is saying is that they're not competing with anyone because clearly they dont have any competition at all. despite the fall im still confident they'll win the title this year. :)

I hope somebody was able to record this from the audience. You can't really appreciate the routine with all the changes in camera angles and the zoomed-in shots.
