I liked your review for several reasons. First, I appreciated your observations about the quality of the tape housing and recycling. I have VHS tapes dating back to 1980 which I still view. I've noticed, with approval, how the tape housings and packaging became lighter over the years. In my opinion, producing housings from type 5 recyclable plastic is preferable to unrecyclable polystyrene, as you infer. Second, I like your comment about the usability of the Funai tape recorder: it's inexpensive, durable (as you inferred of its vintage) and of acceptable quality, so what's not to like? My own player is a refurbished Magnavox dual DVD-VHS that I used for years as a teacher and continue to use in retirement. I am a fan of the pre-owned economy (car, house, photo, stereo, etc.) Third, I like the VHS programme you presented in its entirety. My first vehicle with ABS, a '95 Mercury Mystique, had no such instructions to prep my learning curve (I commuted +2 hours daily to my college position). I liked the instructional quality of the content and found it worthwhile to watch in its entirety. So thank you, once again, for another informative and entertaining review.

That (physically) has to be the cheapest tape (in ANY format!) I've ever seen. OTOH, It might be a collectable for the car/truck nut! I had an 8 Track demo tape from Buick (Also GM!) called "Fancy Colors in Sound" to demo the car's tape player. That title ALMOST sounds (and the label SURELY was) a tad too "Hippie" for the typical Buick buyer of the early '70s, But at least it was a normal quality cartridge/tape stock of it's day. I wish I still had it. (I really miss the 71 Electra 225 it came with....)

I remember having dozens of cheapo tapes like this and similiar in the 1990s.
I would call and send off for any promotional brochure and tape i could get sent to me. 2 of 3 were cheapos llike this, with the rest being standard VHS tapes, but short
I used the promotional tapes to record over. For a poor kid who loved to record TV and hated recording over stuff, it was an awesome opportunity.

I am very surprised at the picture and sound of this tape. I also found it quite entertaining. :)

Rock Video Monthly and similar video subscription services also used these kind of lightweight cassettes.

It's kind of interesting how the cheapo DVD players are $20 and yeah, the cheapest vhs players were 30-40 at end of life. .. Reminds me a bit of shopping for Nintendo games in the 80s at Toys r Us and seeing the $40-60 prices. Well, that hasn't changed at all, the prices!

I noticed there's no VHS trademark anywhere on the tape, maybe they couldn't put it there because the tape was technically out of spec (like a copy protected audio CD).

Yes, I believe this was mentioned in 12voltvids' video. It can only be properly called, at most, a VHS-compatible tape.

Just love, love, big love to Funai.
Each second family had such a tv-2000a mk7. Loved their own remote to this TV. My worked for 13 years, after the burned down - quite adequately for the TV.

Another notable difference from normal VHS tapes is there's no FBI warning that's usually seen in commercially recorded American VHS tapes and it doesn't mention anything about the tape being for private home use only. I don't know if there are any commercial VHS tapes (films or TV series) that don't have the FBI warning.

Thanks Kevin. My 1989 Ford Bronco II 4 x 4 had RAB ( Rear Antilock Brakes ), which depended on a sensor located in the differential, so 1 wheel could lock up just fine! Only when the speed of the diff. began to be erratic did the RAB function, and I honestly don't know what "function" meant. The sensor was constantly requiring cleaning, so I just put up with the brake warning light for years 'till one day it wasn't there anymore, probably burned out. Gotta give Ford an "attaboy" for trying!

"In 1955 Citroen DS19 had a better antilock brake system, also inboard massive disc brakes attached to the trans axle.
In 5 minutes you could change the brake pads by raising the hood , unclipping retainer and sliding out the old pad and sliding in the new one!"

I have two LP records in styrene. A collection of jazz greats and Sarah Vaughan. Both on Forum Records sold in grocery stores and similar places. They don't sound that bad.
