This is legit my all-time favorite Mario game. The levels, the enemies, the soundtrack, and the origin of Wario were all superbly fun and memorable. I still have the cartridge and my blue GameBoy SP. :)

The LCD screens are one of the many things no longer working on Gameboys older then the Color simply because the material used in them is now deteriorating. Larry Bundy Jr. also goes into detail about it on systems that are "literally rotting" as they age.
