Thank you for the detailed review, and greetings from France. Isn't it problematic to install the cam as you did, i.e. in an area where the wipers don't wipe the windshield?
SEE UPDATE @ BOTTOM: I've been in the weeds on dashcam reseach for days now and thought I was ready to pull the trigger on what may be as many as 3 systems. Then I found Brian's (excellent) review of the Viofo T130 - that's the camera I want! Low profile, inside cam that can capture the driver window, Viofo (generally highly rated and sweet spot priced). I even have it in my Amazon shopping cart. But then I considered more of the caveats Brian highlighted: No buffered parking, manual wifi, cable placement, app quirks, etc. The buffered parking might just be a deal breaker for me. For now, I'm back searching and the VIOFO A139 is at the top - for now. UPDATE 1/30/22 Bought two T130's. I don't find the con's Brian pointed out bothersome at all. Set and forget. Buffered parking: in my particular situation, not the deal breaker I thought but, I bought a $300 Blackvue battery not knowing. Might return that. If If I buy a 3rd dash cam, it will be a T130. Thank's Brian!
I've had mine for awhile and it seems great but it's been awhile since they said they'd have an updated production model. I personally think I prefer their a139 but it depends on if you want the interior camera built into the main camera or separate. The a139 used very thin coax cables that I liked a lot over these thick USB cables.
I have also found the A139 to be better in every regard, and considering the slight pricing difference it's what I'd choose. But if you simply must have an interior cam which can be aimed toward the driver's window at will, then the T130 is the one to get. Lots of discussion of both cams in the DashCamTalk forums.
I got this dash cam. I tried to connect it to wifi and the live video wouldn’t show. I tried it on an iphone X and iphone 12. Same didn’t work. I contacted support and she said to turn off the cellular data. Once I did that the live video worked. Also, I wouldn’t do a hardwire to the car battery because if you drive on a low battery, it will burn up your alternator. You have to always keep a maintenance charge on your car battery if you do a hardwire connection. I didn’t do a hardwire connection. I bought SBAOH Portable Power Station Generator, 42000mAh on Amazon for $115 and it works good for constant power. The unit is small, like 3 lbs. Brian says that he has a 128GB card, but it will support a 256 GB card. Also, the Viofo site under FAQ tells which type of Samsung cards are recommended and not recommended. I bought one that was not recommended before seeing that. It still works though.
The add-on direct cabling adapter addresses that issue by having a setting which disconnects power based on battery level. Did you not watch the video?
Great review, thanks! I'm in the market for a dash cam (I've never had one before) and am strongly considering this one after watching your video. Do I have it right that you're here in Austin, TX? Is there a professional installer in town you can recommend? And also a solid 256GB SD card? I noticed you recommended a 128GB one, but I wanted to go with higher storage to play it safe.
a big plus about this dashcam is the use of usb c instead of the dreaded usb mini. it makes life easier when you don’t have to fight and fiddle with the correct orientation of the cable when plugging it in. hopefully all dashcam manufacturers will go with this as a standard from now on. for existing dashcam owners with a rear camera, this will mean having to go back to running cables through the roofliner for a new rear camera yet again.
Viofo make great dash cams. I have an older model A119s that is still working. Although, I am planning on upgrading to one that has higher resolution. Have you, by any chance, compared the T130 with the A129 Pro? I would love to see a side by side video footage from each cam. By the way, as much as I would like to have a rear cam, it would be an issue down the road if I want to remove it. I have window tinting, and I'm sure it would make a mess of it. Your video reviews of dash cams are very good. I hope that you do more. Thanks.
So far mine is very good but unfortunately my phone (Samsung Note 10) doesn't like the app. The only way to connect to the camera's wifi is to restart my phone. Has to be my phone. Also, randomly my camera will voice alert that recording 3 camera is starting. That is getting annoying. As you stated, plates and signs do not look clear at all. The Viofo A119V3 has no problem with it so I don't understand why Viofo dropped the ball on this very important aspect. As of date, there are no firmware updates newer than October 21 to download to resolve issues. Hope they're working on it. Maybe my SD card has an issue, not sure. My last dashcam was a Blackvue that continuosly would disconnect. Ended up spiking and smashing it. Felt good lol
1) Can you connect to the dashcam wifi and surf the internet at the same time using an android phone? 2) Why is the internal (driver) camera video so purple?
When a camera saves an incident either by pushing the button or detecting an impact automatically, does it save any time leading up to the event, or just from the moment of impact? I’m new to dash cams and wasn’t sure.
I'm looking for cameras that will record about 8 hours (overnight), with sensors to record only when there is movement outside, in other words, to monitor while I'm away. Also, it should alert me instantly if it detects movement. I'm not looking to record while driving, but only while parked. What does it take? Hard wired? wifi?
The major issue with this model is that it only records at 30fps and not at 60fps like the a139. I like that the front and interior cameras are combined in one unit but the fps is what makes me go with the a139, any thoughts? Great review
Do you think it would be that hard to hardwire yourself? I’m still in college (in other words, broke) and try to install things myself as much as possible to learn new things and avoid the installation cost
@@philipbutler I felt that it was a bit tricky but nothing crazy. As long as you have a tool to detect which fuses are "hot," you'll be fine. It was a bit odd though because, after correctly hardwiring my T130 for the first time, nothing happened - the dashcam didn't have power despite being correctly wired. But once I turned my car on (for the first time after hardwiring), the dashcam powered on as expected. And since then, the device has power even when my vehicle is off and parked.
Having to turn the wifi on might have sold me 🤣 i hate how my current dashcam always has wifi on and my phone wants to connect to that instead of my android auto. I had to change auto connect on my phone.

The camera comes with a cigarette power plug. You can use that plug with the external battery like a Cellink neo and the blackvue batteries because they come with cigarette lighter connectors.
I think it comes with the regular hard wire cable, but you have to buy the parking cable separately. Or, I might be mistaken, and it only comes with the 12 V cigarette plug cable. I just don’t really remember.
@Brian Greenstone how do I get parking mode to work. I do have it hard wired but what settings do I need to put it on for the dash cam to work when the car is off
You have the Garmin parking cable? Is the sensor wire connected to the correct type of fuse? It has to be an ignition switched fuse so that it turns off when the car is off, otherwise it won’t go into park mode.
Having WiFi auto turn on is the worst. I hated that Blackvue removed the option to turn off on startup on their newer model. The last thing I want is my phone to not get updates because it’s connected to a WiFi source that has no internet.
@@BrianGreenstone That is false. I have owned many dash cameras and once connected more than a couple times, the wifi will auto connect even after i manually changed my phone to not auto connect. As good as Garmin is, IMHO the T130 still beats the video quality of my 57 and of course is a large step above the 1080p Mini2. The A139 beats all these IMHO as it has better detail capture day and night. It seems the T130 version being currently sold is the same as what most Beta-testers got, HD2You may have a different one as he usually gets the first cam from Viofo ahead of the rest of us. I do like my Garmin 57, there's not a large difference in vid quality and any of these three will serve someone well. The Mini2 has merit in it's size; barring early failure it's going to be a permanent addition to my van once my long-term tests are over but not as my primary cam.
@@P_RO_ Normally the T130 should have the same lens as A139 so after polishing the firmware the results must be the same. The A139 is more expensive to be produced compared to T130 which is not including the CPL lens. It is true that I usually receive Viofo models before production and the T130 rotating lens feature is the result of my 2 years for persuasive work to convince Viofo to implement a lens rotating to the driver window.

I don’t know what the Motorola dongle is, nor do I know what do you want it to do with android auto.
@@BrianGreenstone think he might want to screen mirror it to cars display via androidauto
gmt -9 Alaska?
well done
Can this be connected to a separate battery
I suppose so. Parking mode won’t work tho.
@@BrianGreenstone y wouldn't the parking mode work
How is the camera supposed to know the car is parked if it’s plugged into a separate battery?
@@BrianGreenstone that's true. I guess keep it recording
My BlackVue is plugged in to a separate battery that is hardwired to car… once my car turns off the battery will power the dashcam & once car stops moving for 10min it auto turns on Parking mode.
This or the mini 2?
Mini 2 all day long unless you need a 3-channel cam.

"I can't stand having to manually turn on anything. Everything else just, does it for me.. ..so I don't have to."

"My favorite part about these cameras are all the feature options that I have manual control over."
man what
Huh?
For me the wifi doesn't work
Doesn’t surprise me. Connection issues are the number one complaint about all Dashcams
Garmin are much better and made in the beautiful country of TAIWAN 🇹🇼
Agreed. I have Garmin Minis on my two other cars.
Did you tested this Viofo T130? I think not.
Huh?
It’s a breath of fresh air seeing an honest review of the pros and cons about a camera. Not only that but you go in depth with how exactly the camera works in a very organized structured manner. Thank you so much
