The FDNY will be as loud as damn possible until you move. If you don’t move well let’s just say your ears are gonna be blown off. Also you can be as mad as you want for them “being to loud” but they don’t give a *damn*
Perhaps, but it's already been proven that our hearing has significant problems, when it comes to working out the location of a constantly loud sound, as there are always going to be echoes of that sound. For someone in a vehicle, in NYC, the echoes are going to be even worse, as the buildings are going to be reflecting that sound everywhere and constantly. Is it no surprise then, that drivers who can't see the firetruck/s don't move, because they actually have no idea as to where the vehicle/s are approaching from? This is why firetrucks in many countries have a primary siren, which despite being very loud on its own, has an alternating tone. Regardless of the echoes, you will discern the location of an alternating tone siren far quicker than a constantly loud sound.... and respond to it much sooner. The problem is, in a place like New York City.... that constantly loud sound is just another sound mixed in with a whole load of constantly loud sounds. Drivers will quickly move out of the way of police cars, because they use the 'bird chirp' siren sound in heavy traffic, and because of the tones (short sharp blasts), it's really easy to discern the location.
@VerilyVerbatim Pretty sure there was a lawsuit in NYC because of the hearing loss these loud sirens cause. edit: actually a group of firefighters were suing the siren company for failing to put adequate shrouding around the siren to protect their hearing
@@VerilyVerbatim I agree, and you can just imagine that your more full of shit than a backed up sewer. The premise is simple. if you hear a emergency vehicle, Look for it and move the hell out of the way, it’s not like if you hear it, you’re never gonna find it, you look for it. if you can hear it from further away than that’s a good thing, it means that the sirens are doing they’re job. So don’t pull that “blaming the victim” bs, because in reality, the firefighters are the victims of you base on how ignorant you are and how much of a burden you become to they’re path of completing they’re job. You don’t need to over complicate the premise of how loud the siren is or what it should spound like.
@Ryan well, they should to at least get out of the way, and everyone on a intersection should stop when they hear or see the vehicle and follow accordingly to stay out the way. That’s how we do it here in the us. You won’t need about running a red light if everybody stops and gets out of the way.
Lesson #1 for tourists -- Manhattan is very noisy. Mostly due to FDNY. (Gotta Luv 'Em, tho) Lesson #2 for tourists -- do NOT have a heart attack in MidTown. You will die before the first fire engine or ambulance can get to you. My suggestion -- Ladder 4, Ladder 24, Engine 65 and Engine 23 need TRAIN HORNS.
Half the fdny was going to the wtc plus departments from outside nyc and plus the nypd and a shit ton of other agencies. There were probably thousands of vehicles responding at once
I wasn't born, or alive when 9/11 happened but my dad was in the city to tell me, the FDNY was pretty silent since EVERY fire truck to exist in the FDNY responded and there was damn traffic, not even civilian traffic, it was FDNY creating traffic so they just silently responded if that makes sense.

Im from new York and frequently visits NYC and is planning to move there in the future so all the many trips there this is normal for people like me max volume is what it would actually sound like

They have all of that except the train horn, (not sure about the chrome rims), I've seen them respond with rumbler, a bit more effective, sometimes not so effective. It sorta suppresses the siren so I would use it at night
Dude I got into FDNY Rescue 1's firehouse and the guy who gave me a tour of the house offered me to play around with the sirens and horn, it was insanely loud. Louder than this video.
So müsste die FF/FFW auf den Autobahnen läuten, solange bis es auch der Letzte bei keiner gemachten Rettungsgasse begreift. Immer drauf auf das Bullhorn, und wenn es andere nervt!!! Ich feiere den Sound!!!
How do they even get to the fire? Taxi drivers should lose their licenses when they cut in front of or block an engine. The taxi company should lose their medallion for that car.
There's nothing quite like hearing a fire engine roar thru the streets of NYC. It's actually pretty amazing.
You need to get out more, Bippy.
Listen at max volume for true NY experience
Damn, that's loud.
Yesss that's crazy super loud 🔊🔊

yeah you really get a chance to admire them as no one moves out the way ;)

Back then they had Pa300 sirens not the EQB2 ones like they have now BUT I’m sure it was loud cause you had everyone Responding

Probably a Grover Stuttertone as Kyle said
