There is no battery in this particular piece as it runs from an automatic movement. Once fully wound, it will last around 40 hours before needing to be wound again. If you continuously wear the piece, the rotor will wind the movement as you move around. As far as opening the case, it should be ok if opened by a professional.

Normally a Samurai is around 11.2 ounces. I'm guessing a little lighter without the metal band.
