Beautiful show. Not an ounce of cynicism. Sad and funny and real, but never mocking or cynical. Also, Lindsay and Sam have the best TV parents ever. When Linday asks her dad why he isn't as cool with them as he is with Nick, he says it's because Nick's father is a hard man, and he knows what that's like because so was his. Lindsay replies something like: "I know what that's like too," and Mr. Weir just says: "No you don't." And it just hangs there because she immediately knows it's true. Damn.
I feel like no one evert talks about Alan, that scene with bill is effectively in a coma and him breaking down and talking about he would love to join their group but he’s afraid of it damaging his reputation and he’s obsessed with looking like a cool, tough bully. The part of the episode where they are all dressed up in costumes and he sits on his bike wanting to go over but decides against it speaks volumes. Great writing. Great show.
same!! i was 14 and now i'm 22. rewatching it years later and i realize how real it is. i've dealt with all that stuff now and it's crazy to rewatch and actually understand.

One of my all time favorite shows by far. It sucks that it was canceled, but there's definitely some beauty in it. The lack of resolution and answers as to what happened to these characters let's our imagination run wild. I certainly believe Apatow would have done this series justice in later seasons, but great things come in small packages. And this package is perfectly wrapped with a beautiful bow on top. It'll forever be a gem.
I see the ending as if I the viewer moved away. I guess that makes some sort of self Canon insert. To any who moved to a new place its kinda like the way one leaves who doesn't say goodbye. All that's left is wonder. Gives me closure to its sudden end
I thought that for a show that got canceled it still managed to end very well. I wish the geeks got a little more closure but characters like Lindsay and Daniel had such a great end to their story, especially Daniel. The last episode mightve made him my favorite character it was so great to see him genuinely enjoy something for one of the first times when he played DnD, as well as finally put his foot down and try to be good at something in AV
it needed to be set in the mid 90's..the fact they set it in the early 80's hurt its appeal...it felt old..and it was not a parody of that era like that 70's show so it just felt like writers who could not communicate with the current youth so they just told about their past to kids of today...i am sure older folks would of liked it but they don't watch shows about teens....so it gad no audience really
@@razkable the show would not have been as good if it was set in the mid 90's. freaks and geeks beautifully showcases the distinct atmosphere of high school in the 80's. i do agree that it would have had more appeal if it was set in the mid 90's though. during that time period 80's nostalgia was not as prevalent.
It was really better off this way ending after one season. How long can a show about high school students really go on when half of them are in their final year? Maybe they could have squeezed out one more season, but I feel like it told the stories that it needed to tell very well. And running it into the ground wouldn't have done the series any favors. Sometimes more isn't better.
You talking and analyzing Daniel's character really made me sad to see the hard truth with his future but that last bit of hope with the film projector really mad me smile. Thanks.
@@jacob_yancosky I always thought that Kim Kelly would get pregnant on the dead tour and when she gets back Daniel would get serious about his life and take over raising the kid.
It truly is a genius show. Its so subtle in its reality. And it breaks my heart in so many ways but not in these large dramatic ways but in small realistic quiet ways
true...nick was a subtle mvp of the show..same for milli..they would sneak up on you and deliver a powerful scene every once in a while and i liked that...most shows would treat their characters as jokes...
I love how there’s no 1 dimensional characters. Each main character has at least one episode which is pretty much dedicated to them and their story. When I first started watching I assumed that Kim would just be a mean asshole for the whole series with no reason behind her actions. The same goes for Allen, I loved how we got a look into why he is the way he is and how he isn’t just a bully for the sake of being a bully like characters in other shows.
i think thats more for us fans..the characters are fine letting go getting past it but we fans aren't so if they continued the show we would want them to be together cause we know they are a good pair....its a shame it got cancelled..would of loved to see where those 2 went...maybe they are meant to be just friends but it could be settled better....not be so open ended...
Their relationships rubs parallels with most peoples relationships in high school. Even friendships as well. Look at how many people we had strong relationships with in high school yet rarely even talk to those same people anymore....?
@@ozdagap1809 yeah but she could learn to love him..i think the finale is showing that...but it may still end the same with them apart.....she has a unhealthy crush on daniel...they are not meant to be imo..
@@ozdagap1809 True. In that final scene with Lindsay and Nick, you can see she is questioning if she made a mistake because now he's changed what she didn't like about him, but she doesn't love him. She cares about him a lot, but not real love.
I think you really undersold the ending of that episode Lindsay helps Daniel cheat. Linda really did a great job showing how emotionally overwhelmed Lindsay was at that point. Watching her face go from fear to hysterical laughter as soon as she realized Daniel was full of shit was perfection and probably one of my favorite points in the show!
One of the most devastating turning points in the show for me was the very sad scene in which Lindsay finds Mr. Rosso trying to get into his locked car. Up until this point Mr. Rosso was able to maintain his forcefully peppy school councilor persona, but now he's extremely upset and Lindsay gets to see his true self, which appears to be exactly the same as the rest of the freaks: a struggling rebel who has no clue what he's doing and is facing the consequences of his failures. It is also the scene that includes some of the most era-related cultural commentary, outlining the death of the spirit of the 60's and the return of conservative and traditionalist ideals in America. I think what makes this scene very powerful is that the superficial boundary between councilor and student is broken and now it's just two sad and frustrated people who are losing faith in their fate.
I’m so happy I discovered this show my junior year of high school at that time in my life I identified with Lindsey the most. This show hits different when you watch it while you’re in high school. That being said this show helped me with the toughest times i experienced while in high school it made me feel like I could roll with the punches.
Discovered this as a sophmore failing schoolwork and depressed. This made me want to actually try more at school. I relate a lot to Lindsay, Nick, Daniel and Bill.
Did yall know John Daley who played Sam Weir was one of the writers of Spiderman: Homecoming and guess who played Peter Parkers teacher? Martin Starr, who played Bill. Also, the actor of Neal was literally in a Quentin Tarantino movie. These Geeks are icons.
His first mcu appearance was actually in the Incredible Hulk, Bruce went to a university (can’t remember which one exactly) to deliver pizza in order to sneak into the computer lab. Funny enough a college student (being Martin starr) gave Bruce props for the free pizza lmao nd was a college student in the film also
I loved the episode where Kim hit Milly's dog and it died. It showed that Kim is the type of person that loves animals deeply and its because she has been hurt by people. Also, Kim says something about how her step dad needs to be careful because she has so much dirt on him. It was never mentioned again but it seems like he has probably hurt her or something.
I love this show! I especially like the episode where Bill makes the prank calls to the gym teacher, and Allen starts to crack up in the gym teacher's office when their all reciting what Bill said during the prank calls!
Allen laughing in this scene is art haha its so hilarious. I almost wonder if it wasn't acting but the actor actually laughing and theybjust kept it in
All the characters were so beautifully written and acted. Not just as great characters, but more like actual people who you could honestly fall in love with even after repeated viewings. So honest and true to the core of who each character is, it’s a hard thing to understand without watching the show. I really don’t think there are many shows/movies/characters out there that are quite like it.
I was the "freaks" age when this came out. It was amazing and everyone seemed to love it. I will never understand why it was cancelled as it was definitely a fan favorite
It’s because NBC essentially broke its legs and then ask “why aren’t you running faster”. They didn’t air it a number of times during that year for sporting events and for a fantasy mini series. And then they complained it didn’t have steady enough viewership. Well no shit NBC, half the time people tuned in to view it, you had something else on. =\
@@moonlitegram Didn't also air on Friday nights? I know that Friday nights back in the day were a death sentence for shows back then. If I remember correctly, Firefly aired on Friday's too, which is another "fan beloved" show that only got one season.
@@skeletankmcgraw7343 it’s def possible they had it on Friday at one point too. Wouldn’t surprise me. I just don’t remember at this point. But if you do I’ll take your word for it.

A high water mark for TV and without question the very best 'coming of age' series in TV history. For those too young, trust me when I say this show perfectly captures the lost innocence of 1980...notice what is NOT anywhere in this show? TECHNOLOGY. So much of the magnificent, heartbreaking and wondrous best of growing up has been lost to all those little screens you spend your lives staring at.. Without question the best work Apatow has ever done, or likely ever will. A true masterpiece in TV.
One thing I LOVE about the show is the fact that they set the music so perfectly down to the scenes and the theme of the episode. For example the episode where she wants to see The Who has mostly The Who songs
For those of us who were in junior high and high school in 1981, this plays as a very realistic snapshot of the times. One of my favorite series, brilliant in so many ways.
Agree with most of this video, but I don't think Daniel was lazy for having given up easily. I think he had the spirit beaten out of him. He never got the right attention or help he needed when he needed it most, so by the time anyone offered, it was too late. He got too comfortable in the idea that his future had already been paved for him and it was set for the worst possible course. It's sad, but that happens for a lot of kids who grow up in similar situations. He had to then hide all those insecurities behind a cool demeanor so no one bothered him about it. Had he met someone who cared earlier, I think he would have been more like Bill (minus the nerdiness lol)
I think its interesting that nick wants to be a really good drummer, but its clear he just doesnt have the talent. But, hes very good at basketball if he would just stop smoking pot, he could probably go to college on a sports scholarship.
Lindsay and Sam have the best sibling bond I've seen portrayed on a show. She's the older protective sister who is also fun and lively, while Sam is the younger brother who looks up to her and is equally protective.
We know what happens to the characters. They became what become of all the 80's babies. Working class. Their lives enveloped by the same system that's breaking all of us.
@@calebblack1420 In America, if you have desire and are truly motivated, not so much smart but motivated, you can become very successful and live your dreams. Capitalism works for people with a motor...maybe that's your problem.
Dude, I really liked the things you said about life dreams and the harsh reality that we may never reach them, as an aspiring artist it really resonated with me. Sometimes we don't really appreciate the things we have and I think that's a key factor to happiness. I've been really struggling with depression and on top of that I don't really know where I'm gonna end up to in the future. I always had this dream of becoming a successful artist but this silly dream becomes more and more unrealistic as time goes by. Yea maybe we won't be sucessful on what we want but that's life, we gotta learn to live with that and find purpose and beauty elsewhere. And the fact that we're all here discussing these deep subjects is a testament of how good this show really was and still is. It's definetly on my top five greatest shows ever. It's a shame it got cancelled but we got 18 episodes of absolutely perfect life stories with human characters and meaningful content. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this video.
I'm going through the same things with wanting to be a filmmaker. I feel older everyday and worry it I may never make a movie and theres a good chance i never will but I'm gonna keep trying cause it motivates me to be a better person. You gotta be realistic with yourself but also not easy on yourself and give up. glad you liked the video good luck.
I'm so happy that this show translates and is appreciated by generations other than my own. Yes that means I'm in my 50's now and as sad as that might seem, it was worth it to have grown up in the time represented in this wonderful show. Great vid!
i don't agree with the themes of failure and depression. It's a coming of age! They're learning who they are. There are challenges in their personal lives, but thats real life and they have their whole lives ahead of them. I wouldn't write them off as not being successful or whatever.
@paige if you watch the documentary on the show Judd Apatow distantly talks about failure being a heavy theme. I made sure to quote him, "but out of failure comes survival" Your right it is a coming of age story but I went to the 2011 Reunion show off this and the cast even said them selves they didnt think most of there characters lives would amount to much. But I do think there is hope with the last episode that they are young and can change there futures If they want to.
@@shaunettewilliams1456 I think there is hope at the end with the last episode, I know I did mention that but maybe I could have been more clearer. I think most of these characters were dealt a bad hand growing up but there young and can make good lives for themselves If they really wanted too but Ive heard the actors themselves say they didnt think the characters lives were gonna amount to much so they played it that way.
@@jacob_yancosky right but these are actors, with roles to a script written by other than themselves. Completely irrelevant to sequential series of random events people call real life. Who were they to determine the lives of others distraught?. Where failure is indeed a reoccurring component of life, so is succeeding. The growth of these characters were never fully apparent for the viewers to truly understand humanity. Yes humanity. Because I’ve fallen in the shoes of about each character in this series, I truly believe that there is more to these characters than what we’ve seen. Think about who they were before the show, and once it was promptly ended. They were left behind in the dust, along with their futures and dreams. Uncertainty is what builds character. Without that, these actors would’ve been engulfed by criticism once the fan favorite went off the rails. But in the end, the writer himself saw hope and worked miracles to help these so called failures to succeed. Remain positive, see life a beauty not a burden.
Watched this series for the first time in 2021. I loved it! Seth rogan is a little cringy in the beginning but his acting gets better as the series progresses.
You forgot to mention about Alan. He had a moment that showed more complexity of his character. Especially sad when he's in his bike and doesn't go to the convention, even though he wanted to.
Dude, your commentary is top notch. Love how you wove in bits of your personal story without losing focus on the show. You left it all on the field. Best review ever.
High school is either characterized as the happiest carefree time or an utter mess filled with sex and drugs but it’s still kind of glamorized. Freaks & Geeks showed how mundane HS is and how everyone is just trying to figure it all out
You really hit the nail on the head. Watching this show in high school, it fueled the pride and love I had for my “freakness”, and I didn’t think much more of it than a relatable show to get high to. After having to drop out of school and years of addiction and struggle, watching this school back as a sober adult is so different, because I see the sadness and futility in the middle of the comedy. Your analysis is amazing. Hope you’re doing well and thanks for a great video.
Just rewatched this show recently and I can safely say that it is one of the greatest shows of all time. Martin Starr was the star of the show for me. Such great acting overall.
I will always remember when I first met my girlfriend and I showed her the show. She fell in love immediately and we binge watched the whole season. I remember her reaction when she asked to start season two and the heart crushing pain of knowing that it was a one and done show.
I discovered this series in late 2016 and the nostalgia of an era I never lived in is so strong. I love this series with my heart and I can't believe it was cancelled so soon. Great video, I'll take this as a sign to rewatch it! x
I think it's because it's so universal. I was born in the 80s and went to high school in Sweden in the late 90s - early 00s, almost 20 years after this show was set, but I could still very much identify with this show and its characters. It just nailed a realistic portrayal of growing up, regardless of the decade or even country.
Just finished this show last night for the very first time. Absolutely fell in love with it. Each character felt like a friend and had a piece of me in every one of them. Definitely one of if not the best coming of age story I’ve ever experienced. So sad this show only got 1 season but man did they make something special here with just 18 episodes. The weeping feeling I felt as I watched Lindsay drive away in the van felt like a real goodbye. I love this show and I’ll definitely be back for a rewatch
usually shows from the 90s or early 2000s are really cheesy, but this show is amazing. its shows the reality of life, while also being funny. I love this show so much, I wish it had more seasons
I just finished this with my mom. I thought i was gonna hate it because she usually shows me really badly made movies/shows from the 90s but i really liked this and got really attached to the characters. Im really sad its over :(
I really like the plot of nick and lindsay because it shows how fragile relationships can be. the last episode where they talk at the disco hall and realize they both still like each other was great.
Paul Feig once said in an interview what would’ve happened to the characters in season 2. It would’ve been so great to see what he had in mind play out. I won’t give it all away but he said he felt Lindsey would’ve become a human rights lawyer as an adult, so at least she wouldn’t have become a loser
i find it funny how lindsay likes daniel at first then gets with nick only to mess it up and regret it and then wind up alone..thats weird in t.v. to happen..and its not like daniel and kim are together either...
I would say that its a turn of for girls to know how much a guy likes them. It's very healthy to talk about you'r feelings in an honest way. She simply didn't feel the same way about him .
they should of been on a network like fox nbc abc or cbs...thats the issue...no one saw it cause it lacked promotion....exposure is needed...people would of supported it cause its so good...like sorry but this got 1 season but crap like according to jim king of queens and my wife& kids got how many seasons?..bland ass series like that around the same time?...oh just cause they were on network t.v.
i just watched this recently and even though im 19, i feel like it made me. i love high school tropes and film settings and this show was so impactful in many ways. for one, the actors just made me so happy with all of their performances. i have such a soft spot for the geek boys because their acting at that age is so natural and realistic and it was so fun watching the scenes where they geek out and enjoy hanging out with each other, its so cute. one of my favorite scenes is when daniel plays d&d with them. the cast is so amazing and linda cardellini is so pretty. all of the side characters get a good amount of screen time and it's awesome to see more of millie and alan throughout the show. there's so much more i can say about this show but i can't find the words, i just have the amazing feeling in my heart when i think about this show.
Love how Martin start made a quick cameo in Incredible Hulk as a college student then becoming a teacher in the Spider-Man movies, Bill is truly the most legendary and my favourite geek 🙏🏽🙌🏽
Th sadness you speak of is the realness of life itself. There is always something in life that needs maintenance and no one is 100% happy all the time. This show is good at showing that.
man this is my favourite show and that was such a beautifully made video, i rewatch the show about once a year and you just so amazingly encapulated everything i love about it
I watched this show straight through after it came out on dvd over ten years ago. I gave away the dvd set to my niece and am now - after buying it again - rewatching it. It is even that much better on a rewatch. What a beautiful show.
Just got finished rewatching and this perfectly sums up how I feel ab the show. Seeing the final moments where Lindsey go to the Grateful Dead trip is always so bittersweet
This show is very realistic and I can tell you this because I was exactly this age in high school in the 80's. There were the "burn out's" who you feared like the plague, the freaks, and the geeks, and then of course the popular kids. Crossing over boundaries into another click was very risky, as one can see from Lindsey's character. Risky of being tormented, teased, ridiculed.....dare enter the lunch room! High school had such distinctive cliques back in the day. Don't know if it is the same nowadays, but in the 80's...watch out. This show is so damn good, from the script, to the acting, to the atmosphere/scenery. Having the music of the 80's written into the shows was smart because the music in the 80's was a permanent part of our adolescence....from Rush, to Kiss, to AC/DC and Styx. This show is, in my opinion, one of the top 10 shows every made for television.
I watched this show when I was a sophomore in high school, about 15 years after the show ended. I remember crying at the end because I loved the characters. I wanted to know where they would end up. I remember feeling really bad for Nick and being mad at Lindsay for how she treated him. Now I'm an adult and I watched it with my boyfriend, who had never seen it before. He loved it too and felt sad too but I got a new impression this time. I liked that this show wasn't afraid to show their characters being bad people. Lindsay treated everyone pretty poorly. She was judgmental but wanted to 'be bad.' And Neal kinda sucked, he was really weird and creepy. But we find out that his father probably didn't teach him the things he needed in order not to be a creep. You didn't even talk about Sam and Lindsay's parents! Especially their mom, she grows a lot as a character, too. There was so much going on in this show and people just weren't ready for it yet.
This show is one of my all time favorites! It is so real, it makes you laugh and tear up. It was so beautifully written. Even though I wish there was a second season, I really like how it was short and sweet.
I really enjoyed your commentary. This show has always given me such a mix of emotions - it brings a smile to my face and makes my heart swell with nostalgia for my younger years. But it also brings on this melancholic haze that hovers over me for a couple of days any time I revisit the series. I think beautiful sadness is a perfect way to describe it. We don’t all automatically end up with happy lives and Freaks & Geeks does a wonderful job at showing that.
I remember reading this show was too ahead of it's time and considered "too real" for major networks compared to other teen drama shows of the time like Dawson's Creek etc, the Kens girlfriend arc was deliberately controversal and basically a middle finger to the network.
This was a short season for network tv at the time. The OC aired a few years later than this even and the first season had 27 episodes. The 10-13 episode norm for dramas came from cable and later streaming.
@@jacob_yancosky yes! It was also given a proper//consistent times slot for when teens could watch it, and was given AMPLE PROMO. The exact opposite of what NBC did.
I wish there could have been 30 or 40 episodes of it. I mean, I would have even been satisfied with that. I love this show. And there is a sadness and a longing in every episode that I always recognize. PS I think Jean Weir was the most loving and supportive TV mom of all.
I love Lindsay because she is a girl so of her house, she loves her family and studying and her quirky friends like millie, but when the series start we get into her shoes and we realize that she is nowhere near ready to face the rawness of world that is already biting her. The show starts when she has to take an step forward to her adult life and the reality out there clashes with the comfortable environment she is used to, and somehow her way to face and battle the world outside is getting immersed into it; doing the things as the geeks do, but she always seems self conscious about it,like she is pretending all the time, I love that stressed tinge to her personality. She is always nervous, she is always awkward,It feels like having the life of a wild teenager is not what she wants, she is not OK with it, but she doesn't feel fine with her comfort zone either, she is in the middle, we can see it in some episodes like the Halloween one, when she goes far beyond and tries to be like her friends, she ends up feeling bad and empty. It is like at the beginning of the show she tastes a sample of the edgy and nihilist reality of this world and after that she is unable to be the girl she used to be anymore, perceiving all her old world (family, school, friend) as ridiculous. And that breaks my heart and makes the show really hard to watch for me.
One of my favorite shows . Almost everyone can relate to one or more of these characters and we all know a Daniel or a Nick or a Kim. Such a well written series. Great video !
I watched this in middle school and then again in high school and it’s wild how much I related to Lindsay. School comes easy to me and if I try I could get perfect grades and have fun in extracurricular activities. I was friends with some of the “freaks” in middle school and got in trouble a lot. Freshman year was my mathletes episode where I ditched a lot of friends and just focused on being perfect. Sophomore year I got hella depressed and had to deal with a lot of family issues and death. From that point it went downhill and I good decent grades but not perfect. Senior year I never went to classes, didn’t apply to colleges dispite having a high gpa, got in a lot of trouble with parents and at school and almost didn’t graduate on time. I’m rewatching it again now that I’m in college and it’s so weird to reflect on. I think nick’s storyline hits me so hard because I had a friend like that who I was also super into and he ended up not doing anything. Also Harris was so underrated I wish we got more episodes for his sake.
I’ve been rewatching it for weeks now every time it ends I restart it I just love this show but mainly John Francis Daley aka Sam he was just so cute & innocent to me
One of the best shows that ever aired about my generation. I was a fan before it even aired. It was a sad day when I found out that they canceled it and I'm still heart broken over it!
Man... I hate that I along with many other people missed the tail end of their jr year and if theyre like me, missed their entire senior year... it was heartbreaking graduating a few months ago, not because I missed anyone, but because there was an entire stadium, and hundreds of kids that apparently went to my school who I didn’t even know existed... I don’t know, I remember hearing from NakeyJakey that you don’t remember all the bullshit tests and quizzes from highschool, it’s the people, and all the dumb shit you did. If you’re still in highschool next year, I’m begging you to talk to people, and make every day dumb or interesting. Good luck, from one guy no one knows exists to the next.

Damn.
Beautifully said :)

The last episode mightve made him my favorite character it was so great to see him genuinely enjoy something for one of the first times when he played DnD, as well as finally put his foot down and try to be good at something in AV
can't believe it was canceled after only one season
Obviously, that one season turned out lasting a lifetime! People to this day still talk about it.
I can't believe I was canceled for accidentally giving my husband hepatitis C, he knew the risks when he drank my blood #hepatitisshmepatitis
it needed to be set in the mid 90's..the fact they set it in the early 80's hurt its appeal...it felt old..and it was not a parody of that era like that 70's show so it just felt like writers who could not communicate with the current youth so they just told about their past to kids of today...i am sure older folks would of liked it but they don't watch shows about teens....so it gad no audience really
This show is incredible and an actually great depiction of real life high school.
You talking and analyzing Daniel's character really made me sad to see the hard truth with his future but that last bit of hope with the film projector really mad me smile. Thanks.
Maybe he got into film
This is a great description thank you
The final scene with Lindsay and nick is heartbreaking. Both love each other but their paths are separating they can’t be together.
i think thats more for us fans..the characters are fine letting go getting past it but we fans aren't so if they continued the show we would want them to be together cause we know they are a good pair....its a shame it got cancelled..would of loved to see where those 2 went...maybe they are meant to be just friends but it could be settled better....not be so open ended...
Nah. She doesn’t love him
Their relationships rubs parallels with most peoples relationships in high school.
I was cracking up just as hard as she was once she broke the tension in the room
Your analysis of the show and its strengths and the struggles of its characters is right on. Thank you my friend
thanks for watching
The goofy “never again” teacher was Martin Starr? No wonder I found him hilarious!
John Daly is also one of the writes of game night and the horrible bosses
The Quentin Tarantino movie the Actor that plays Neil is in, is Inglorious Basterds.
@@moonlitegram they also split the season up like half of it aired in the fall and the second half started in February but they never advertised when it would be back on and basically nobody even knew about the second half.
It is one of the most underrated shows EVER
Not anymore with critical acclaim from both viewers and critics
Every charecter was relatble and it made the show timeless and so sad when it ended
Best scene in the whole show is when Daniel finds Ken “making fun of the band geeks” then delivers that “tuba girl” line😭
“You’re in love with TUUUUUU-ba girl??” 😂😂😂😂
@@calisongbird lol 😂. I rewound that scene.
But, hes very good at basketball if he would just stop smoking pot, he could probably go to college on a sports scholarship.
the kareem abdul jabbar skyhook at that!!! and hes pretty tall too
Lindsay and Sam have the best sibling bond I've seen portrayed on a show. She's the older protective sister who is also fun and lively, while Sam is the younger brother who looks up to her and is equally protective.
We know what happens to the characters. They became what become of all the 80's babies. Working class. Their lives enveloped by the same system that's breaking all of us.
They actually would have been 60s babies if they were teenagers in 1980 (the year this show was set in).
@@calisongbird My bad, I was just generalizing how America sorts out it's hopeful youths. By crushing their dreams.
@@calebblack1420 ehh I don’t know if it crushes our dreams but life is definitely

@@billsimms2511 If it hasn't crushed you yet, give it 2-3 more years, and 12-15 national crisis later.
Glad hulu added this so I can rewatch this show after all these years.
I'm so happy that this show translates and is appreciated by generations other than my own. Yes that means I'm in my 50's now and as sad as that might seem, it was worth it to have grown up in the time represented in this wonderful show. Great vid!
Same... I’m 53
i don't agree with the themes of failure and depression. It's a coming of age! They're learning who they are. There are challenges in their personal lives, but thats real life and they have their whole lives ahead of them. I wouldn't write them off as not being successful or whatever.
They are too young to predict their future .
@paige facts I thought he was a bit harsh in his assessment. Their only teenagers figuring shit out. I wouldn't write them off as failures.smh
The scene of Bill home alone really breaks my heart. Many plots and scenes with Bill break my heart.

Freaks & Geeks showed how mundane HS is and how everyone is just trying to figure it all out
one of the greatest shows of all time.
I randomly came across a few clips from this show on tik tok, Fuck this is good
I will always remember when I first met my girlfriend and I showed her the show.
Im really sad its over :(
I watched this show after seeing your video. thank you for rec, i really liked it
Oh its such a great show, thank for watching
My favorite part of the show was lizzy caplan just because shes always 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 in everything she dose
I watched the entire thing on a weekend a few years ago, and honestly forgot a lot of this, but I absolutely love this show.
‘The person that loves the least, holds the most power in a relationship’ -some 90dayfiance episode
i find it funny how lindsay likes daniel at first then gets with nick only to mess it up and regret it and then wind up alone..thats weird in t.v. to happen..and its not like daniel and kim are together either...
I would say that its a turn of for girls to know how much a guy likes them. It's very healthy to talk about you'r feelings in an honest way. She simply didn't feel the same way about him .
Very heartbreaking that the show was canceled after the first season. Judd Apatow is a modern John Hughes. Both were ahead of their times.
Such a shame this show didn't get a second season. It would be cool to see more character development
they should of been on a network like fox nbc abc or cbs...thats the issue...no one saw it cause it lacked promotion....exposure is needed...people would of supported it cause its so good...like sorry but this got 1 season but crap like according to jim king of queens and my wife& kids got how many seasons?..bland ass series like that around the same time?...oh just cause they were on network t.v.
i just watched this recently and even though im 19, i feel like it made me. i love high school tropes and film settings and this show was so impactful in many ways. for one, the actors just made me so happy with all of their performances. i have such a soft spot for the geek boys because their acting at that age is so natural and realistic and it was so fun watching the scenes where they geek out and enjoy hanging out with each other, its so cute. one of my favorite scenes is when daniel plays d&d with them. the cast is so amazing and linda cardellini is so pretty. all of the side characters get a good amount of screen time and it's awesome to see more of millie and alan throughout the show. there's so much more i can say about this show but i can't find the words, i just have the amazing feeling in my heart when i think about this show.
Love how Martin start made a quick cameo in Incredible Hulk as a college student then becoming a teacher in the Spider-Man movies, Bill is truly the most legendary and my favourite geek 🙏🏽🙌🏽
I would love a season 2 that picks up exactly where the show left off even tho all of the cast is 20 years older
Th sadness you speak of is the realness of life itself. There is always something in life that needs maintenance and no one is 100% happy all the time. This show is good at showing that.
man this is my favourite show and that was such a beautifully made video, i rewatch the show about once a year and you just so amazingly encapulated everything i love about it
I think you can look at the show going so fast just like how high school does
I’m still in love with Lindsay
I watched this show straight through after it came out on dvd over ten years ago. I gave away the dvd set to my niece and am now - after buying it again - rewatching it. It is even that much better on a rewatch. What a beautiful show.

@@jacob_yancosky it shows, keep up the great work!
I always really related to every single character one way or another, I think that's why this show is AMAZING.
My parents showed me this show when I was 10. I still absolutely love this show and reference it all the time
Jacob, you nailed the essence of the show, but you (and the comments) never mention the interludes of great 70's songs in each episode.
If i talked about everything I love about the series the video would have been over an hour long and no one would watch it
This show is one of my all time favorites!
Best one yet broheim, keep it up
yeah i think so too. very proud of this.
“Broheim” 😂😂😂😂😂
I remember reading this show was too ahead of it's time and considered "too real" for major networks compared to other teen drama shows of the time like Dawson's Creek etc, the Kens girlfriend arc was deliberately controversal and basically a middle finger to the network.
This was a short season for network tv at the time. The OC aired a few years later than this even and the first season had 27 episodes. The 10-13 episode norm for dramas came from cable and later streaming.
was the OC an hour long though? i only remember watching the pilot when it came out didnt stick with it.
@@jacob_yancosky yes! It was also given a proper//consistent times slot for when teens could watch it, and was given AMPLE PROMO. The exact opposite of what NBC did.
Well I prefer quality of quantity any day as you get pacing issues and unnecessary fillers.
watched this when i was 16 and recommended it everyone i knew it really helped me get through a rough part of my life
This show was the joy of every weed and opioid connoisseur

They should bring back but now as adults to see how they’ve turned out
I was SO hyped when Sam AND Bill got some play i was happy clapping
Also Harris was so underrated I wish we got more episodes for his sake.
this is one of the best shows ever tell me otherwise
I’ve been rewatching it for weeks now every time it ends I restart it I just love this show but mainly John Francis Daley aka Sam he was just so cute & innocent to me
This show was underrated and really deserved more seasons
I watched this right after graduating high school. what a shame. Wished i watched this as a freshman
It’s great that literally every actor on this still works together and help each other
Underrated show in my opinion, pretty good story telling it's a shame it only had 1 season...
