Thank you for this video! You talked so passionately that I want to watch every single movie you mentioned, most of which I haven't seen yet. You make me wanna watch more movies!
And thank you for articulating some thoughts on Matrix Resurrections. It's sometimes hard coming out of a theater and having had a great time with an emotional and personal story, and then see everybody just ripping it apart. Whatever flaws the movie has, I enjoyed it immensely for what Lana put on the screen!

I felt the same way about The Matrix the heart of the story was always Neo and Trinity which is why I was so disappointed with how she was killed off in the third movie I loved seeing them together again

So glad someone has actually given matrix resurrections it’s props I feel like it was a really good film, not the best matrix film but that’s kinda the point…

"They made it bad on purpose" isn't a valid defence of something when people say it's bad.

With Malignant the key word is "from a major studio", compared to something like Bliss (2019), it's tame and more about the one big joke than the insanity.

I really enjoy your content and your opinions (as weird as this may sounds) more and more. It's quite rare these days for a youtuber or anybody else really, to not answer the question "Favorite movie of the year, month, ever etc." with just the top rated stuff. It's the way you talk about the movies discussed in this video or even TV shows from the CW for example that made me sub to your channel and watching more and more of your videos. It's a different kind of perspective, just saying what you think about the movie, not over-analyzing it and so on. Maybe I'm totally wrong on this, just some thoughts. Hope you are doing good ross.

Great, great picks. Mass is a devastating film and I think it's gotten good attention in film circles, but distribution has been lacking for this film and so awards attention has been really weak.
also yes Malignant best movie ever

I did not enjoy Malignant like a lot of other people did. I liked the ideas behind it, but the execution and editing made it dreadful to watch. It became a game to play of guessing what 2000s trope was gonna pull next. Between that hardcore The Pixies cover song that kept playing at key points, to the hilariously cheesy police station fight, I couldn't react in anyway but baffling laughter that James Wan made the movie version of an identity crisis.

I genuinely thought Mass was atrocious, for the first 35 minutes it hides what the thing that happened is, as a results of which all dialogue sounds extremely artificial and empty and consequently hard to pay attention to, and things don't get better past that, it's just so movie-y and fake and technical underneath a transparent facade of human emotion. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I really like the "people in a room talking" genre and you just can do so much better than Mass.

You are reading too much into this 2021 Matrix film and you liking it is respectable, but I can't be here anymore. I felt the same about you liking the 2014 Godzilla more than the films that followed it, I understand what you liked about that film and about the new Matrix, but it clearly shows you missed the point of those two franchises.

    • @josephmcfadden2229

Movies are an interpretable art form. If art couldn’t have personal meaning and interpretation everyone would think the same way and all art would be the same.
There’s no such thing as missing the point of a franchise unless it has an explicit message that goes over your head.
And Godzilla was originally made as a metaphor for the devastation of Hiroshima. The 2014 Godzilla film respects that far more than the films that followed it.
Not criticising your take, but maybe Ross has a point on both of those franchises

10: Luca (Even though it's a very simple story but it works)
9: Venom: Let There Be Carnage (One of the most entertaining and funny movies of the whole entire year)
8: Free Guy (A brilliantly hilarious concept for a comedy, managed to pull of a video game movie without feeling like jamming chop sticks in your eyes)
7: Ghostbustrs: Afterlife (I love Ghostbusters and this perfectly continued the story and added more heart to the franchise)
6: Godzilla vs Kong (It's definitely not the best movie of all time, and far from it, but it's an awesome type of ridiculous)
5: Dune (The BEST movie of the year, beautifully shot, beautifully written, and just perfect in every single way)
4: The Suicide Squad (One of, if not my favorite DCEU film, filled with a ton of fun energy)
3: Mitchells vs The Machines (A heartfelt and rewatchable story, I've literally seen it about 5 times already, I'm surprised because the trailers suck, but the movie didn't)
2: No Time To Die (Might be the best James Bond, a perfect ending to a perfect franchise, 3 months later, I'm still drowning in my tears)
1: Spiderman: No Way Home (Just straight perfection, best MCU film)

Am I the only person in the world that thought The Mitchell's vs The Machines was overrated? I was expecting it be really funny and I can't remember laughing once. I laughed more during Space Jam 2!
